Ed's voice sounded GREAT in South America

mschostokmschostok Chicago, IL Posts: 858
Just listened to the Chile boot on the radio and Ed's voice sounded the best I've heard in a handful of years. I'm not sure what he's been doing but he sounds great. Anyone know if he's quit smoking or gotten a vocal coach or something?

Give the boot a listen whenever you get a chance, I'm telling you he's doing something different. Don't know what it is, but he sounds like he's hitting notes with less stress and having an easier time doing it. Hard to explain considering I'm not a vocalist.

yup he sounded amazing, best he's sounded in years imo

Well Idk what he's doing in his personal life but I did notice that he seemed to change some songs in order to be more equipped with this voice now. Main example: Corduroy. Love it now too, hope he keeps it up

This is great to hear! Fwiw, I thought he sounded better in 2014 than 2013. So whatever he's doing, I hope he keeps it up!

Yes! I made a similar thread about his voice sounding better in 2014 than 2013. Honestly, his voice in South America is sounding better than 2014 so you're right, let's hope he keeps this up!

Totally agree with you bud! The 14 boots sound a thousand times better and I think I just figured out why.

I really noticed how spot on his voice was at the Bogota show. He's always gonna have moments where he can't hit some notes or is out of breath, but it doesn't seem as often.

Right, he's hitting notes more fluently, too.

Gotta be. Could be drinking less too, alcohol just dries the shit out of your vocal chords.

I was at the show in Bogota and immediately noticed something better, more crisp and full, in his voice. Having said that, everything, especially Mike, sounded more crisp and full than any PJ show I've been to. I thought it might have something to do with the altitude (8000 feet in Bogo), but sounds like everyone was hearing it all over S.A.

    Looking forward to the boot!

That's great news! I miss the days when Ed could just stand there stoic on stage belting out mind blowing vocals. Hopefully the clean living is paying off on his vocal chords.

I'm guessing it's a combination of things, including possibly throat surgery to clean things up? That wouldn't shock me, I think that has become more common

I also think the new setlist setup helps with multiple slower more atmospheric songs to start allowing him to warm up, as opposed to slamming into 5-6 uptempo rockers to start a show

I wonder if pendulum was written in a key that helps his voice warm up hence the reason they usually open with it.

Yes, during "Everything has Chains (or changed if thats your thing)", they slowed it down and Ed basically sang an octave lower than normal. Sounded pretty cool actually, but that's literally one of my favorite songs of all time and that's one of the best parts of any song, so I like the original better, but it was cool and sounded good nonetheless.

Listening to the Chile boot right now....yeah his voice definitely sounds better. Much, much better. Listen to In Hiding, he hits all the notes, especially the chorus. Haven't heard him hit those notes in 4-5 years.
