Much like the religion itself this thread can be interped to mean whatever you think it means.

    Good point.
Then like all religions, the text should be this:
    ?
Close what I believe (or non-believe). I have great faith in the idea that what we can't understand is a mystery. But stated even better is this:

"I don't believe in putting faith in spirituality. That's just a crutch for those who don't belong. I can assure you, I'm no advocate of New Age philosophies."

    "Belong Where?"

"On this Earth, in these waters. If you have to ask why and if you need to demand answers to impossible questions, well then you don't belong. That's what it's all about- belonging, being part of something unfathomable and letting that which you seek come to you."
-Paul Watson, Ocean Warrior, pp 195-196

A bit later, Watson talks about using intuition to track down illegal drift-net fishers and then this:

Bob smiled. "So you concede some credit to woo-woo faith."

I laughed. "Nothing I would admit."

"But," said Bob, "you are putting your faith in intuition about the [sea] drift taking us to the drift-netters."

"No, Bob, there's nothing spiritual about my intuition, which has never failed me yet, and besides, I look on intuition as a normal biological function. The secret is to not complicate your mind with trivialities."

    Brian: enjoyed that.

Maybe we start a philosophy thread.

President Obama claims, "America is not at war with Islam." Well, Islam is at war with America. We need to respond in kind.

That's all in the Bible as well, and was all practiced at many points in history. In a couple hundred years Islam will catch up to how old Christianity is now, maybe then you can start judging.

Islam is at war with America?
That is an unintelligent statement. Do you know how many Muslim practitioners there are in the world? Do you know where most of them live? Do you know anything about the subject or are you just pulling a Trump?

That article itself is an excellent example of extremism. Fight extremism with extremism doesn't really make much sense does it?

Right? You'd think that people would know better by now that fighting extremism with extremism is basically the cause of a large portion of the worst things in human history. And I'm saying that as someone absolutely does acknowledge that Islamic extremism is a big problem. Here in the AMT I once got absolutely roasted for saying that 20% of Muslims could be considered to have extremist views. It was a pretty hard time for me on the AMT. But that doesn't mean for one second, in my mind, that that should mean we have to start compromising our humanity and compassion and our common sense and start employing bigotry and an extremism of our own out of fear of that number.

    Exactly, PJ_Soul.

There are extremists in all religious sects. Look at the Westboro baptists. But wait! Not all Christians are Westboro Baptists. And another thing to consider- what does addressing any particular group with venomous hateful bile result in? Will it somehow convert them? Not likely. In fact, more likely is this: the more you segregate and disparage a group like Muslims with hate and vile, the more likely you are to encourage some of the more everyday peaceful Muslims (i.e. most of them) into radical extremists. How freaking ironic is that?!

    http://usuncut.com/politics/while-trump-spewed-hate-this-muslim-group-raised-100000-for-san-bernardino-victims/

In a random act of kindness, Muslim Americans are shattering everything Donald Trump and his supporters believe about them.

In the days following the mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, a coalition of Muslim-led groups in Southern California and elsewhere around the nation has committed to raising $100,000 for the families of the shooting victims. The money raised will go toward various expenses like funeral costs, medical bills, and rent/mortgage payments for households directly affected by the recent terrorist attack at the Inland Regional Medical center.

As of this writing, $97,000 has been raised — $88,000 from a LaunchGood campaign organized by “Muslims United for San Bernardino,” and another $10,000 from the website for MiNDS, which is a non-religious 501(c)(3) organization focusing on economic, medical, and educational needs of low-income residents in Pomona, Inland Empire, and Orange County. The LaunchGood fundraising campaign was initiated by MiNDS co-founder Dr. Faisal Qazi, a neurologist based in Pomona, California.

While the effort was originally concentrated in Southern California, Imam Mohammed Fatiqh, of the Islamic Institute of Orange County, helped make it a nationwide interfaith effort led by Muslims.

“This is something that affects all of us; it affects us as (U.S.) citizens,” Fatiqh told the LA Daily News. ““This particular incident affected us as Muslims. This is the response that everyone, especially Muslim Americans should (have) in every case, regardless of who the perpetrators are.”

This outpouring of kindness from American Muslims paints a drastically different picture of Muslims than the image portrayed by Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, who called for banning Muslims from entering the US yesterday after it was revealed that the perpetrators of the San Bernardino shooting were Muslim. Trump has also called for every Muslim in the US to register in a database, and for each Muslim to publicly identify themselves as such. Trump’s campaign made it clear that US citizens who practiced Islam would be banned from re-entering the US if they left the country.

Too many Americans don't want to hear this. It invalidates their hatred.

    Carter banned Iranians, not Muslims.

    Biiiiig difference!
(still don't approve of that though... there were Iranians that would have been good to bring in back then; many wanted to defect for various reasons)

The photo in your avatar is awesome. I am a huge fan of The D.

It is scary how much influence extremists like Rush and Hannity have on the "intellectual" output of conservatives. Rush was just blathering on today about Carter, without making the distinction of nation vs religion, and I just knew it would be making the rounds tonight and over the next few days.
I have seen it a half dozen times on these boards, and it is just scary.

Know a guy that's forced to listen to rush all day due to working constructing with boss that blasts it on radio. He despises Obama and had to help him out with a few facts. Was so sad. But Rush gives his audience what they want.

I listen almost every day, I drive around a good bit for work. He is a real character, I often think of the Family Guy episode where Rush and Michael Moore turn out to be the same person, playing both sides and trolling the country... He's such an extreme caricature of a person that it almost seems like he has to be doing it in jest. It would be funny if there weren't so many fritatas running around taking it seriously.
