I didn't think it was that hard to find one of the original 7" 's?

Would still like a new one. And also do a CD one also. Would like this to be celebrated either way. Maybe Mirrorball as well

Long Road was the first song I ever saw Pearl Jam play live. It's very special to me for that reason, and I loved the song anyway. Will have it at my funeral (hopefully whoever is able to find it and not play another song instead LOL). Apologies for morbidity-thankfully seem ok healthwise (well if I stay home during these times haha).

What ARE the odds on Merkinball being rereleased for Record Store Day one day? Sounds like a good idea.

Ed's story of how it came to be at whatever the show was was amazing, best intro to a song ever.

How he was strumming the chord over and over, amd the band juat came in without prompting and just started playing......  San Diego some year about an old teacher Clayton dying.

5 min in story starts, then video cuts, so someome else find the full video

I suppose, but given that used ones of both the cd and vinyl are pretty cheap, I don't think there would be a lot of demand for a repress.   It's something that's already in most peoples collection, and easily obtainable for those that didn't.  Probably because it came out during PJ's hey day, and thus lots of copies were sold.  The odds of the band putting the effort into rereleasing something that doesn't need it are slim?

unless.... there are more than two songs from that recording session?  If there's some hidden extra tracks, an extended version would sell.

Or release Mirrorball with those 2 songs. I don't have my cd anymore. And I never had the vinyl

There is a picture of Ed's handwritten lyrics and even that is indecipherable. I really need to know what he is saying in the "And I'll_____ " part. What exactly is a "blue eyed scene"??  Learning that the lyrics were "Walked in light" and not "Walked the line" was  a revelation to me, and an improvement.

Blew my mind when I first saw these handwritten lyrics. Pretty sure he’s saying “and I’ll stare you back.” And I always interpreted the “blue eyed scene” as him looking at himself in the mirror.

Definitely one of my favorite PJ songs ever. Distinctly remember hearing it on the radio for the first time and being blown away.

These songs meant so much to me as a teenager. And even though redefined as an adult, no less effective. OH, and Mirrorball is amazing.

Two of my favourite songs ever written. Just put out on an random EP, seems ridiculous but I kind of like it that way.

Here’s a link to the audio, didn’t come across the video portion yet.

I wouldn’t mind a reissue of Mirrorball/Merkinball on vinyl specifically. Give us a box set, ReIssue/Remastering of Mirrorball on some iridescent disco-ball vinyl, a live show/compilation of songs from that tour, Merkinball on a flexi (cardboard brown color), lithographs with shots from studio and tour, hype stickers (like the ones they had)....I’m a dreamer. Hell I’d be okay if they at least re-recorded some if not all the songs with Neil in a special setting of sorts. Maybe even keep it acoustic.

After buying a couple iridescent pressings this year, I'm gonna have to say a hard no on that. Sound quality is garbage.

We do know Neil is planning a live release and reissue though. I bet the band reissues the 7" around then.

I'm down with both. But call me crazy if you pressed me for Mirror or Merkin...I'd go Mirror. I bought it just on the off chance Eddie was on vocals and I found my first Neil Young record and never looked back.

  • Strangely, the Merkin Ball single was the first PJ I ever heard.  The band had been recommended to me, and they just had this single out so I bought it on a whim.  Previously I only listened to chart radio and this opened up a whole world to me.

But still, I think I’m the Ocean on Mirror Ball tops either of the PJ tracks, even though the PJ tracks are obviously both fantastic.

I like Mirrorball but if Merkin Ball had been a full length album I think Merkin would have the edge. And my favorite part of Mirror is Eddie during Peace and Love

So long road is my absolute favorite song of all time no arguments what so ever.  Toronto 9/11/11 (which happens to be the last time I heard it live) I have row six or seven pretty much dead center in front of Ed.  They open with long road.  No lie at the end of the song Ed strums that final D chord and flicks his guitar pic into the crowd.  I shit you not, that pic landed right in my hands.  At that point I knew it was going to be one good show.
