I just don't want to pay for a full concert and get a "festival" show, like a 60 minute set or something like that.CPR7 said:
I agree. I wouldn't be going if it wasn't so convenient. Don't really care for the openers either but at the end of the day 75% of the band is the original lineup. Yeah I hear ya. I guess I'm paying more for the convenience. I didn't splurge on the best seats in the house by any means. The venue is small enough that there are no "bad" seats.HughFreakingDillon said:

I was on the same boat as you. I waited for a Canadian TOTD date, skipped Weiland's last show in TO because he was coming around often etc. Hindsight is always 20/200 -
so I ended up finding a ticket for half price on stubhub. $30 CDN all in for 4 bands. I actually skipped the first two (Age of Days sounds like a Seether clone, and I don't like Default). Seether was pretty good, but man, that guy needs to get over his obsession with Kurt Cobain. Seether is a four piece band, but Shawn Morgan is set up on stage left, just like Kurt was. The bassist was in the middle of the stage where the singer usually is. Totally bizarre.
As predicted, STP was 14 songs of greatest hits with only their two singles from the new record.
Why do bands release full records if they are only going to play the radio singles every damn time? And honestly, the deleos/kretz are always tight, and I really dig the new record with Jeff Gutt, but holy shit, the Scott Weiland imitation was over the top. The way he was dressed (same type of sunglasses, something feathery around his neck-a friend of mine said he looked like Neil Patrick Harris dressed as Scott Weiland! LOL), and the way he moved around the stage and even how he crouched down when singing to the first row was vintage Weiland. It was kind of embarassing to watch.
One other thing, it was obvious most fans were there for Seether. the exodus before and during STP's set was insane. Never seen anything like it for a headliner (And Dean even came to the main mic and commented that this was the best crowd of the Canadian tour so far-EESH). there were full SECTIONS that were empty. STP should have gone back to playing 2000 seat theatres like they did with Chester. Sell those out, build a buzz, build a following again. Touring with 90's nostalgia acts and grunge ripoffs isn't going to do them any favours long-term.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -

so do I. I mean, he probably feels intense pressure to placate the fans that miss scott, knowing those performance shoes are huge ones to fill. But he really should dial it back a bit. so many people I've talked to who were at the show mentioned the same thing I did.2-feign-reluctance said:

I kind of felt that way seeing Travis emulating Shannon hardcore when I saw Blind Melon in 2008. But he was smoother about it and I think they played a pretty good number of songs off "For My Friends" on that tour.HughFreakingDillon said:

I actually had this conversation with my cousin this morning. She asked how the STP show was, and I mentioned the BM show in 2008. I found that Travis sounded like Shannon, but I didn't really notice him being similar in mannerisms or stage prescence.2-feign-reluctance said:

Thanks for the review. That is exactly what I was afraid of. They're playing a 2000 seat theater here and last time I checked tickets sold about half of the venue was still available. Still going in with a cup half full mentality. Going to smoke some government weed right outside the venue before heading in hahahaHughFreakingDillon said:so I ended up finding a ticket for half price on stubhub. $30 CDN all in for 4 bands. What time did they hit the stage and how long was their set?0

I saw them earlier this year in Dallas as part of a day fest. Wasn't anything exciting but I thought Jeff sounded just fine in those songs. They are playing a free show 20 minutes away from me tonight so i'm gonna check it out2004-10-06 - Asheville, NC

10:05, as scheduled, and played till about 11:30 I think it was.CPR7 said:What time did they hit the stage and how long was their set?
it's always funny to me how bands SCHEDULE an encore. I mean, even when half the crowd has left and there's barely an audible cheer for the band to come back out....and they do anyway. this was the case. i was happy they came back out, mind you, but man, I feel kinda bad for them. These guys just can't hold the interest of a crowd without Scott. Talk Show failed. Army of Anyone failed. And I don't see this incarnation of STP being any differentt, unfortunately.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -
Maybe an anomoly? Big crowds, lots of noise for them on the tour overall. At least their Instagram posts over the summer, etc., communicated a very different vibe.HughFreakingDillon said:

I hope so. But then I thought it was weird that Dean said we were the best show of the Canadian tour so far. I know that bands always say shit like that, but how he did it was different than how most bands pander to the crowd. it seemed out of character for him to go to Jeff's mic, and somewhat uncomfortably, and seemingly sincerely, state that to the crowd. I've never seen Dean talk to the crowd before.2-feign-reluctance said:

It was mostly a combination of things. What struck me most was how many people left after Seether.
I would also imagine what a band sees is much different than what someone in the crowd might see. I mean, I've been on a stage, and I couldn't see shit farther than 5 feet in front of me. So maybe the folks at the front were awesome. I don't know. I was pretty far back, so my experience could have been affected by that, absolutely, however I had a completely panoramic view from a bird's eye. I was also stone-cold sober, and I've been to a lot of shows, so I'm pretty sure my read was accurate. But hey, I could be wrong.
I really do hope they succeed. I honestly do. I love the Deleos music. Especially Robert's.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -

So HFD pretty much summed it up. Seether sucked fucking ass they were horrid. No crowd interaction no energy they just stood up there played their music and left.
STP was as I expected. Greatest Hits set list that has been copy and paste for the whole tour. JG was trying way too hard to be SW. From the clothes, dance moves and crowd interaction. My brother said at one point it looked like we were watching a tribute band. I feel like the crowd felt the same way but out of respect for the other band members they went easy on Jeff. Overall it was okay but I will not be rushing out the door to see this incarnation again. I really feel for the DeLeo brothers and Eric. You can tell that they were truly appreciative of the applause and love the crowd gave back to them but playing in a half empty theatre with a capacity of just under 2000 has to be a sign.0 -
Not been able to see them live yet, but Seethers most recent album Poison the Parish is still fannnfuckingtastic.CPR7 said:So HFD pretty much summed it up. Seether sucked fucking ass they were horrid. No crowd interaction no energy they just stood up there played their music and left.
...if a lead singer passes on, so should the band.Pittsburgh 2013

meh, it's just a name used for marketing purposes. most people didn't know who the fuck Talk Show was because the label didn't get behind it. if they had been called STP, damn straight that record would have done way better. bands can't depend on the 1% of weirdos (me) who seek out music news from the far reaches of the web.drakeheuer14 said:
