  • And someone is selling theirs on the-site-that-shall-not-be-named for $150 or something like that. Sometimes all of this staggering greed around merchandise makes me very sad. Who, in good conscience, tries to sell an EV lighter for $600. I am all for someone making a profit but....

It doesn't say Pearl Jam or anything on it, so I can see why someone might sell it to offset the cost of the most expensive Ames poster ever sold. ;) I don't really know why someone would BUY it for that much, especially if they don't have the matching gold actual poster... but I can understand why someone sell it.

My favorite is the EV wallet and pick that has been on ebay lately for (was $600) $500. I could use a spare EV wallet but not at that price. And no one knows for sure if Eddie was the actual "signer" of the picks. Hopefully no one will buy at that price.

No I have one too, came with the wallet in 2009... But I'm saying it could have been a stagehand who wrote EV on the picks like that... we don't know for sure it's signed by Eddie. Those were replacement picks, I believe, because before that they came with the red/white/blue EV logo picks in the wallet. I think they ran out so wrote (or signed) EV on the picks. I mean it was probably Eddie who did that, but who knows. I guess I can see Eddie sitting in a room with a hundred plain white picks and just putting EV on with a sharpie... but also, maybe not?

I'll never understand the outrage over selling your privately owned possessions. Tickets on the other hand....now that's cause for an uproar.

People are supposed to hang onto things they buy forever, or else sell them to someone else for their original cost. It is like an unwritten contract.

I may be missing the gist of this but I see no difference. If you buy a ticket...isn't it yours? And therefore yours to sell at whatever ridiculous markup you choose?

No. Scalping is illegal. Kudos to 10C on actually enforcing it, unlike every other outlet.

Sure..so is speeding (even 1 mile an hour over the speed limit), throwing a cigarette butt out a car window and jay walking. And what do these three items have in common with ticket scalping? Enforcement of those laws is almost nonexistent...

I frankly don't see the difference. If you think one is OK, the other should be too and vice versa, I don't understand getting bent out of shape over ticket scalping, but thinking it's OK to acquire a limited edition piece of art and turn around and sell it for profit.

a show is an event in time that is limited by, just that, time. once that time passes, that's it. never again.

a physical item to me is actually much different. there will always be another opportunity to buy it.

Exactly - a poster is tangible, an event or concert is not.

I don't have an issue with people selling possessions they've had at a later time but I guess I don't really know what's the appropriate amount of time before someone should be able to resell without being classified as a flipper.

I generally stay away from these discussions because they never go anywhere, but I just don't understand how someone can say it's OK to sell a print where the ink is barely dry, and in the same breath condemn ticket scalping. They are one and the same to me.

Just because they aren't enforced doesn't make it your right to do so, though, which is what you asked.
