If by "powers still in effect" you mean this: the prime minister made it clear that any enforcement measures from when the act was invoked will continue, then I would disagree with you. I take that to mean that the government will still proceed with actions already in progress, such as continuing with legal charges for people already charged, for instance, but not initiate new actions. It would not make sense to expect that all enforcement of already existing legal action would be dropped.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -

https://youtu.be/cxtdDdznqo0 Oka crisis lasted 78 days. Involved many heavily armed indigenous peoples… This ended in a negotiated settlement without invoking the emergency act…why? Canada was country with a serious leader. Not a part time drama teacher …

Comparing the oppression of aboriginals and the development on their sacred land to a bunch of whiney crybabies who don't want a needle occupying the capital city of our nation and illegally blocking international trade and travel routes is offensive.Post edited by HughFreakingDillon onHugh Freaking Dillon is currently out of the office, returning sometime in the fall0

Could we try to make a distinction between freezing bank accounts because someone didn't agree with or support the Liberals versus freezing bank accounts of those who willfully and publicly broke the law and disrupted both the economy and other people's day to day lives? (and those who financed such activities)
Sometimes it smells a little too Tucker Carlsony in here.
Not to sound rude.. but I have a question for those who oppose the emergencies act .... temporarily freezing bank accounts is bad... would you have preferred that or preferred seeing the protestors tear gassed and violently arrested in the masses? To be clear... either way... what these people were doing needed to stop somehow. No matter what, the Trudeau haters were gonna hate... but to me he and the OPS took the most non-violent approach to dealing with these idiots. I can appreciates that. And I've said this before... those who try to paint Trudeau as a dictator.... he doesn't have a lot of power and that was evident here. His use of the emergencies act in my opinion was because of pressure from the States. If that's accurate... and I'm confident it is.... if you were in his position, what would you have done? Like seriously if Biden said to you as PM "Hey there... can't have this stalling our economy.. need you to take care of this." What would you do?
Keep in mind too... when it was railway protests, the Conservatives were yelling for more enforcement and police intervention. Blame the guy for not doing something and then blame him for doing something. Such is our politics.Post edited by Parksy onToronto 2000

Also... does anyone have historical precedent to cite, and I'm not trying to be a smart-ass, honestly curious here. When did we face a situation similar to this one? Our capitol city clogged with disruptive demonstrators for WEEKS with people and trucks, and multiple US border crossings disrupted and/or blocked.
Circumstances dictate actions... so if what the Liberals are doing is such an overreach and for such nefarious reasons... certainly we can point to a time or crisis when similar circumstances were taking place and a different government did something different that didn't require such 'over reach' ?Toronto 2000

and again, the majority of the senate voted with him on this. dictators generally don't need approval of a majority of the government, opposition included. he did, and he got it. case closed. and it was active for how many days? yeah, nothing to see here.Hugh Freaking Dillon is currently out of the office, returning sometime in the fall0 -

I still hope that Trudeau’s invocation of the act gets properly and fully tested in court and not just in the committees and inquiries.
Edit: I meant to mention it would have been good for either the authors or Trudeau to have been more specific.Post edited by DarthMaeglin on"The world is full of idiots and I am but one of them."

The court challenges are going to continue in some cases…
Hate to break it to some of you. Trudeau, the Ottawa mayor, and Ottawa police are full of shit.
very few charges will result from this..
The impounded vehicles are being released to the owners…
you can’t steal vehicles guilty of parking infractions. You can tow them, issue them tickets and impound fees…
you can’t charge people for just standing their exercising their right to protest….
Let the lawsuits begin against the banks, police and city of Ottawa…
Trudeau is thin skinned toddler…
