my buddy got carjacked last week and 2 thugs are still using it for armed robberies

You ever notice how the term thug is almost exclusively used for black guys? It's the new 'n' word.

Can't speak for the US (I've heard this is apparently becoming the case, but I think it's pretty silly), but in Canada that isn't the case at all. If anything, "thug" will make most people think of a some suburbian white mook with a gold chain.

Sort of like the term "Young People" or "Individual" when the media refuses to state the race of a offender/offenders. Wise people know what's what, but people have a right to know a description who to look out for if said crime was committed in their neighborhood. Maybe this just happens in my Libby city.

A thug in Canada is someone who would dare bring 13 items to the 12items or less aisle in a supermarket.

i hear THUG used all the time on people of all races. So i dont buy into that nonsense. People will find anything offensive if they look hard enough. The last example of it i saw was a local newspaper headline here describing three white teens who were randomly assaulting people. Tupac making the word into something cool ended up making people cry racism.

Doesn't "thug" mean never having to say you're sorry?

    I mean, that's what I heard. ...

Agree 100%. I do acknowledge that there are people who use the word in a racially charged way, but words have meaning, and thug is not an inherently racist word or term. And its current usage is also not exclusively racist. Tupac wanted to co-op the word. Since Tupac was completely out of my wheelhouse musically and culturally, I have never accepted his theft of that word. In my experience most in my age demographic use it the way it was used B.T. (before Tupac). Thuggies in the 13th century would probably not have embraced Tupac's little game either.

Thug isn't inherently racist, but it has taken on that meaning over time. I rarely hear the term thug used for whites, both with my ears, in the media, and in any type of social media/comment arena. I'm not looking hard to find anything offensive, I've just been paying attention over time (many years).

Well, with muskydan enforcing the law, how could it not be?

What do you mean by that? I am real curious…what the hell do I have to do with a element of the society in Shitcago killing each other at epic proportions? Or was that a attempt to fit in with the rest of the head in the sand libbies on here who deep down know "What's What" but will never admit it to themselves...
