I used to think that there would only be the shows that are announced and then they would add shows for later in the year.

Now if I were pressed, I'd say they'll add some shows in between open dates and then add shows in the fall.

Shaping up to be a weird cool year.

I always took their statement in the first tour announcement that "pearl jam will play a series of dates from April to August" literal. I took that to mean more dates coming during that time frame but nothing before or after. In the fall Ed will be following the cubs around. Not on tour. I'm not expecting anything after August.
Where did we get the cubs thing? I know he's a huge fan. But people seem to interpret this to mean he won't do anything during the fall, which has been the opposite for several years now (yes I know of the futility of the cubs up til last year).

I could see them doing shows in the fall. Playoff baseball is usually done in three weeks in October...

I think the Cubs impact on their touring plans is overstated. Eddie is a member of a band and the band is well aware this is a big year. I would be very surprised if everyone else in Pearl Jam, from management to Boom, is OK with them just taking the fall off because maybe this is the year the Cubs do something they haven't done since 1908.

I'm not saying the cubs are the only reason. I'm sure the other band members have other stuff going on that they want to do as well. Plus I don't expect them to tour more than 5 months. Those 5 months seems more than enough to me if they add another leg during that time frame. Which I believe they will.

I would agree for a smaller band, but PJ can play when/where they want. I don't mean that they would just have 2 weeks off mid-tour because of the Cubs, but if he says let's end the tour in September, why not? I'm sure they all have personal/side project reasons that get discussed when they discuss their plans for the following year.

I'd rather they wrap up after Wrigley and go to work on the next album. You have to think the longer they stay out this year, the longer it'll be before the next record, or we see them touring again.

Soundgarden is at work on its next record now. So, you'd figure Matt will be preoccupied with a SG tour for at least a good chunk of 2017.

Since 2006, PJ has never done more than 33 shows in a year. And the years they've been up in that 30 territory have been treks they've been promoting a new album. They're at 24 now for this year, with nothing other than an anniversary they seem to be underplaying anyhow, so I don't see them adding more than maybe a handful of shows, if they add any at all. Just the fact that they're hitting many of their major touring spots this year would suggest they're not planning to be back in those places for at least another 2-3 years as is their touring rhythm. If they add a west coast tour to 2016, when should we anticipate them doing a major States tour again? Likely not in 2017. I'll take a new album and fall 2017, south and west coast tour over more dates this year.

I'm pretty sure that if during the tour planning stages, Ed said "no shows last 2 weeks of October", they'd do their best to listen to him. Not saying they'll take the whole fall off, but wouldn't be surprised to see them not schedule anything during that time.

Ending the tour in September and/or taking two weeks off in October aren't the same as not playing any shows after Wrigley because the Cubs might be in the playoffs. That's what I disagree with.

Gotcha. And I agree with you too. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see more dates pop up in August and September.

this year has felt huge since the beginning of this thread... it could shape up to the the most ambitious & exciting touring year in band history... so far we have historic baseball stadiums in Boston & Chicago... the legendary Jazzfest... Bonnaroo... Telluride... Madison Square Garden... Philly... Canada... Florida... the Carolinas... Rupp Arena... Hampton Coliseum...

who knows what is still coming, but if that first rollout is a preview, it should be some pretty awesome shit

western tour? football stadiums? dodger stadium? The Forum? how about The Gorge or maybe Red Rocks? small cities? PJ25? fanclub only shows @ The Showbox?

Still hoping and praying for a Santa Barbara Bowl date this summer or fall

Some Edmonton speculation: our new arena is slated to open in time for Oilers puck-drop 2016....first regular season game this year was Oct.8.
I heard (grapevine) that the arena will actually open with a concert as the first event, before the hockey season....a post in this thread guessed that PJ could swing thru Canada in October. I'd be beyond stoked if I scored great (10C) seats to my fav band as the first event in that arena.

It would be cool for me if the Missoula, Seattle, Portland, Gorge, Boise came true. I have always wanted to try a multi show run, but it has never been in the cards living out west. Airfare is extreme

They won't play the Gorge and Seattle, that would kill demand for the Gorge. Portland too, they only time they played here before the Gorge it was the benefit show with David Cross and Sleater-Kinney in a theater. They need the NW locals to fill the Gorge so they limit other shows. This is the same for all bands that play there, they tend to skip Portland/Seattle.

The only problem with that is that's when the Bridge School Benefit takes place. I don't think Ed would give a blanket "no" to Uncle Neil. I thought Ed was messing around with that reporter that was asking him about the Cubs. A lot of people here seem to be taking him at face value, though.

As a lifelong Cubs fan, I can tell you that I would not plan an international trip at the end October this year. We've been waiting our whole lives for this. For him, he could end up being on stage during game 7 of the World Series. Why do that if you don' have to? If you read Jeff's RS interview today, it's clear that they're just doing what they want and don't feel like they have to do anything. They've earned their freedom.

If this is true, that the band is done touring this year come August... Wrigley Night 2 is going to be real special!
Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that's a dumb question... skip that.
