Saying 'no' about an apology doesn't bother me, but I think some of those 'no's' are motivated by minimization of the long term, intergenerational effects of slavery. I can draw a connecting line of wealth, opportunity, land ownership, and educational access from my ancestors to me. I directly have benefited from this. Many blacks can't say the same.

Yes it is a very real part of history. But the original post was NOT about black vs white. It was about the ancestors of slave owners apologizing to the descendants of slaves.
Not just white ancestors but all ancestors.

Yes it is a very real part of history. But the original post was NOT about black vs white. It was about the ancestors of slave owners apologizing to the descendants of slaves.
Not just white ancestors but all ancestors.

apologizing with money ? you know that's what boils down to right ? if we are going to discuss slave history and ask people of today to apologize for generations past then the door is open to discuss all aspects of slavery not just what was asked, because an apology was requested alone opens the door to "why" and "who"

I posted that extensive article so that everyone could read the true part it has in history. It's just that bringing it up here seems completely irrelevant to the conversation, so JAG's motive behind mentioning it the way she did seemed suspect, as though she was trying to defend white slave owners by pointing out that there were some black ones too ("Many" of them, no less).
