Ha! Was just about to post this, where's the face palm emoticon when you need it...

I have to say, this news made me throw up. I don't think the Pope's a liberal, but - sheesh, it's like he met with Kim Kardashian. I was really into the Pope. And sure, I wish women were more active in the Catholic church and he didn't hate gay marriage, etc. But it's cool he cares about global warming and poor people.
But Kim Davis. *shudders*0 -
A good smorgasbord of beliefs to try and connect with as many as possible: a good business practice.Enkidu said:I have to say, this news made me throw up. I liked this from the article
"Francis touched on the issue during a press conference as he flew back to Rome on Sunday, the Associated Press reported. He told reporters that he wasn’t familiar with details of the case but called conscientious objection a human right, even for government officials.
Ah, excuse the fuck me. Government officials follow the current law period. If not leave and change it.0 -
Conscientious objection is a term traditionally referring to refusal to engage in conscripted military service due to personal beliefs. It doesn't apply here because no-one forced Davis to accept this particular job, and there are no penalties to her for leaving the job, other than financial. She's staying in a job for the money and objecting to completing parts of it; some conscientious objection.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0
-
Agreed, government employees don't have the luxury of conscientious objection. Leave your crazy religious beliefs at the door or find yourself a new line of work0
-
And agree with Often, somewhat different to the traditional sense of conscientious objection0
-
i understand conscientious objection if you refuse to go to war because you refuse to kill someone a la muhammad ali. he was drafted and refused, was stripped of his championship and his livelihood, and went to jail.
kim davis is an elected official who willingly ran for the position then decided not to do her job. which she has somehow managed to hang on to.

Agree with all of those last posts. Conscientious objector, I call bs.0

except when anohter law says you can C.O. , so since that law requiring the signature of the elected clerk on the document, we wait til the states legislature reconvenes in January to address this discrepancy that occured after they were out of session for the year when SCOTUS handed down their ruling.PJfanwillneverleave1 said:I liked this from the article

Ky RFRA allows gov officials to object and be covered. So until they make the necessary changes to the requirement of that officials sig on a document........like it or not , for the time being she IS following the law.gimmesometruth27 said:i understand conscientious objection if you refuse to go to war because you refuse to kill someone a la muhammad ali. he was drafted and refused, was stripped of his championship and his livelihood, and went to jail.

I agree. When I heard this on the news, I was in disbelief. If he was a more modern Pope he would have avoided her altogether. It is so crazy to me how there could still be that much intolerance in the world for gay marriage.Enkidu said:I have to say, this news made me throw up. There is a pretty strong reaction to this news, which I'm sure the Pope will be made aware of... Perhaps this will be a lesson for him. Know exactly what the fuck is going on before meeting with random people who have a religious cause, because this guy is working so hard on the Church's PR campaign, and this has dragged it backwards. Anyway, I was not even a little bit surprised to hear this news. Not even a little bit. This Pope has everyone wrapped around his little finger, but you can only hide the truth for so long. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
Ha, I'm with you here. It has been funny watching people (even on this board) fawn over him like he himself was a messiah. He fucked up here. No surprise to me, he did a pretty good PR job for an organization that has been losing ground by being stuck in the past. He said some good things, but obviously still has some catching up to do. Like I've said previously, he's the most progressive pope I've seen in my lifetime, but that bar is pretty low.PJ_Soul said:

Still spewing hate towards a good woman.PJ_Soul said:Oh damn. I almost managed to forget about this beeotch.
She's not a beach like you say. She was doing gods work, many others agree. There's a reason she's now free and back at work.. Because she didn't break a single law.
Still say she's braver than mlk

Sounds like the popes a good man. He told them they can't be married where he's from, shits still illegal there. But no one understood what he said. They just smiled and nodded. Heard this on msnbc this morning.dignin said:http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/30/us/county-clerk-kim-davis-who-denied-gay-couples-visited-pope.html
