    Sirens

I'm very curious to see how this one stands the test of time. Will it be played much this fall and beyond? It was even dropped from a few shows in the fall of 2014.

    ^^^^
Some people consider it their whale song.....

It was never my whale song but I thoroughly enjoyed my WTF moment at Gorge 06 when they started playing it. I kind of always thought it was a fun song but not something they'd play live. It was pretty cool to see them play it live.

I don't regret them ever recording it. Even though it feels rhcp eseque it also captures the band in that moment of time...

What exactly is the consensus on Dirty Frank here??? The music itself? The lyrics? And I'm sorry but what is rhcp?

Apparently the band has no love for Cready Stomp or Hitchhiker. :disappointed:
Oh please let it rain today.
Those that can be trusted can change their mind.

Well I'm glad it was recorded. I don't understand why anyone would ever utter the words "it should never have been recorded", unless they are the ones paying for the studio time.

I'm glad you are glad. The lead singer of the band, who called it a "shitty song" probably wishes it was never recorded.
Then again, maybe they love the song, and the "shitty song" comment was in jest, and that's why they have played the song twice since 1994
I have no idea and don't care what they think of it. I just think it's a fun and goofy song and I don't see why anyone wouldn't want any song recorded. They put it on Lost Dogs in 2003, so they couldn't have hated it so much they didn't want people to listen to it.
(I too feel uncomfortable listening to Sweet Lew and a few others though. I think most people know that I have no problems disliking PJ songs).
"I don't see why anyone wouldn't want any song recorded"
    Right. :weary:

Rhcp = Red Hot Chili Peppers
Dirty Frank - I like it, it's a good time.
I feel you with Hitchhiker, but since they've only ever played it once I'm not hopeful that I will ever get to see it.
Anything you lose from being honest
You never really had to begin with.

Sometimes it's not the song that makes you emotional it's the people and things that come to your mind when you hear it.

They must not like playing Force Of Nature, because they haven't played in in 5 years.

    Their most underrated song....
Yep. It's one of my favorites.
Force Of Nature is soooo great - what vivid storytelling expertly woven with the intensity of the music.....would LOVE to hear live.....still waiting...

  • Oceans is probably a bit awkward since it was written for Beth.

  • Eddie stated he hates Jeremy at one of the LA shows in, I think, 2011.

Also, understood if you don't like Dirty Frank but the guitar interplay is something the band could surely benefit from bringing back.
The funky stone feel has been gone since Ed took over as the de facto decision maker and I imagine Stone would have a lot more classics if he could take the lead musically again. He doesn't seem too concerned any more
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”

Well I'd more call it inspired by RHCP. They obviously just wanted to try out that funk style. I think you may be taking the song too seriously TBH! It wasn't meant to be a serious song. They were basically just fucking around while on a crazy tour and then recorded it. It was never meant for a studio album or anything. It's just a fun song! "That Dirty Frank is a baaaad motherfucker!"

    +1
More Dirty Frank for us I guess! Screw 'em, didn't want to share anyway.

Sadly I totally agree. Perfectly said.

So you guys would love a moonlander tour instead of a Pearl Jam tour?

I'd probably prefer Pearl Jam arrangements of the Moonlander material than Backspacer or LB, yeah.

Not sure what you're getting at with the "rather see Moonlander live than Pearl Jam" though.
He also wrote a lot of great pearl jam songs.

  • I miss the funk too. LB is all over the place and not in Pearl Jam's usually awesome all over the place way.

  • You are lucky the band still makes music. Count your lucky stars. LB was a great album. Only one song was not my cup of tea (sleeping by myself)
  • I do believe Eddie once sang "Glorified version of I HATE THIS SONG"

He hated that song probably because it was about drummer Dave and he hated drummer Dave.
    Song pretty much "wrote itself".

I mean who really wants to hear ghost?

    Me! :flushed:

And whoever mentioned Corduroy and Mike hating it after the 2000 tour. I'm right there with him. That song is way overplayed. Must be Ed's favorite. :anguished:

:open_mouth: It's my favourite too! If you haven't already done so, please listen to their rework of Corduroy for Wrigley 2013 (unfortunately, until today, an OTOTO kind of thing).

I would probably add Help Help to the list.

OP, please have a look at this thread: Blackout Songs. You may find it useful.

I would say that all the songs people call their white whale songs are considered songs that they don't enjoy playing.
I mean who really wants to hear ghost or gods dice or sweet Lew?

I love Ghost and God's Dice....I think GD is a defining PJ tune

Sweet Lew is a good fucking around song

I wouldn't mind hearing any of those live. Sirens I can't stand...The End, Future Days, Just Breathe

  • Dirty Frank is a great song. It is a perfect example of why I liked Pearl Jam. It reminds me of the Pearl Jam that liked playing and recording music, that wrote interesting lyrics (creepy in this case), and didn't care about whether it was good or weird. For some reason I doubt PJ spends any time now in the studio unless they think the song could be on an album. I get that though. It's been 25 years.

It's almost as if back then they threw spaghetti on the wall without realizing what it could stick to.
Now they are more refined before throwing at us.

edit - dirty frank and sweet lew are shit songs.
