I have a HP pavilion laptop running on Windows 7. I tried the upgrade but my internet went really slow, was freezing and just generally seemed off so within a day I was back to 7!
My videos keep freezing and playing and freezing. WTF. I will give it a few hours to see if it's solved.
Oh yeah I had a problem with Flash player after I upgraded as well, another reason I quickly changed back. There may have been an easy fix but I couldn't be arsed to find out, 7 does the job for me
Okay everything is fine now lol. I updated my driver for my soundcard and that made the PC restart, upon restart all the issues I listed previously disappeared. I will check for a win10 driver for my graphics card but video plays normal.

Negatives. This is the most invasive version of Windows to date as they are really trying to push the cloud storage and always logged in online mobile approach. They have an "app" store that is always pushing apps for youtube and skype etc, things that are unnecessary since a full browser is readily available. They want constant access by default to your location and your files, making it a pain in the ass to go through and turn off "permissions". Unfortunately, It's where computers are headed.
The good. It is less of a resource hog and is designed to run on bare minimum equipment. Like pjfan, our five year old laptop is like new and I am actually ordering a new battery for it instead of junking it like I planned recently. You have time to decide so research it a little and see if it makes sense for you. If you want to get a few more years out of a cpu that's bogged down it is worth it. You have thirty days to revert back if you don't like it as it stores your previous os. If you keep it, you can delete the old os and free up quite a few gbs. It really is a light version. Only about 14GB of hard drive space I believe. Windows 7 was over 40? On our laptop.
Besides the speed, are there other material differences?
I hope others may chime in. But for me yes. Since I upgraded It feels like the technology and interface slowed a little to let me catch up.
Yes, other please post your thoughts. I hate upgrading (my brain would rather be learning new authors, titles, chord changes etc.) but eventually will probably give in.
The advantages of 10 sound good but what about disadvantages, difficulties, complications etc., if any?
Thanks!
I upgraded both cpus at my house hassle free. A laptop and a desktop. It's great that you can choose to keep software and files already on your computer. I would still back them up and write down the product key to any software you may have purchased just in case there's a problem.

How do you turn off the permissions?

I have a problem with my Windows Media Player, since upgrading to Windows 10 Windows Media Player no longer recognises audio CD's. I used to insert CD's in and it would automatically play in Windows Media Player, now I cannot even open it at all via WMP. Anyone got the same problem and a fix? Google searches has got me nowhere. My audio CD plays on other programs, so I know there's nothing wrong with the CD ROM drive.

I havent. Its a power hog. I dloaded it to my laptop and made it run slow as shit. I removed it and am back to 8. Until I get a nicer laptop, I'm not touching 10.
And so you see, I have come to doubt All that I once held as true I stand alone without beliefs The only truth I know is you.
Oh hell. For every thread that goes on its period, can it just get locked?
But then we can't have a free-for-all thread about windows. You know who had a way with windows? Matisse! Enjoy this short video of the Chapelle du Rosaire: https://youtu.be/APaXLXAVkmQ

I have no sound and when I scroll down on webpages it isn't smooth.
Also, my PC fan is louder than before.
Can you go back to 7 any time?
My PC seems slow as now.
If all else fails, google it
I am thinking maybe I need to manually download install my sound driver, and maybe my video card driver.

Fix:
I'll stick with Windows 7, until this laptop takes a SHIT.
How many other haven't done so yet?
