Question for Sellers: How Do You Keep Transactions Square?

Really curious how transactions go down on this board in a safe and savory fashion.
Last time I ever sold anything to a PJ member it was tickets, and they canceled their check and screwed me.

So seriously.
I'm probably moving to the West Coast and have a LOT of shit to sell. Either on ebay for -10% (or more) or here (possibly -100% if it goes down like the tickets).

How are seller and buyer satisfied and what methods are used?
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

I strictly use PayPal. They aren't perfect but I feel like they offer a better chance at a square deal for both sides. Good luck with your sale and move!

if you both have a 3rd party on here that you can trust, have the $ and the items sent to the 3rd party and he/she only mails out the item when the $ is received...
or just use paypal and dont use the friends/family option, pay the fee and the buyer is protected.
with that said, I'm looking for PJ guitar picks if you have any you will sell. Good luck with the move!

eBay you are paying those fees to avoid drama and have lots of safeguards IMO.
I've done a lot trading/selling/buying on here over the years and had zero problems.
PayPal 'friend's was the way to go initially because nobody wanted to pay the service fees.
Then things got a little dicey with some bad traders/people on here and I think it made the community nervous that PayPal 'goods' was and I think has been used a bit more than when Lost Dogs first started out.
Communicating via PM is the way to go - but then moving things over to a reliable e-mail works better for me if I need to share photos with someone, or maybe even call the person (I've done that once and it worked out very well).

There used to be a 'bad traders/sellers' list on here - but then that turned into a cluster. I think the thread is still out there somewhere.

Lately I've seen a few people with large quantities of stuff use a spreadsheet method to help keep things organized. Coming back and updating it can be a pain the ass and if you have that much stuff, you could potentially be creating a ton of extra work for yourself keeping track of the list, PMs. If you're motivated and have the time to sink into managing it, I've seen other sellers on here sell to other members and keep things going. Posting price and expectations are ok and should be outlined first. I think sticking firm on your prices too might help, otherwise you get into the aforementioned 'work' of keeping track of people's offers, etc,. Depending on what you've got to move you could be flooded with interest.

I hate ebay. It seems like every time I try to sell something on there... something happens.and the person tries to pull a fast one or I didn't dot my lower case js and cross my ts enough...

A lot of people here have positive experience with one another and vouch. Personally, I have been involved in maybe 3 or 4 'high end' trades here (>$200 in value going each way) and all turned out excellent. Basically I have done the leap of faith method for the most part... but each person did have a history with others here.

There are a bunch of great people on here and I have had only one problem but the post office caused this.

Let's see a list because I'm always looking!!!

    I'm shocked. lol

& Thanks ya'll. I tried googling for "paypal escrow" or some understanding of how protection is built in to their payment scheme, but I honestly couldn't find anything.

If you pay 'goods' the buyer can mark that they were unsatisfied with what you sold them and then PayPal will hold your funds. I just sold an LP to someone on here last week and until they went in and marked that they were satisfied, my $20 was going to be hung up for awhile. Pain, but it protects the buyer.

I strictly use Paypal as well. And whether I'm buying or selling I prefer payments be sent as goods. It protects the buyer should the seller not come thru, and also allows sellers to print shipping labels straight from Paypal, giving both parties the opportunity to follow tracking.

And I always factor the shipping cost and Papyal fee in my selling price. (For instance: "RVM vinyl for $245," instead of saying "$230 + shipping + 3% if payment sent as goods"). Keeps it simple that way.

And no, I'm not selling my RVM vinyl. Just using it as an example.

Let's see a list because I'm always looking!!!

So, unfortunately I actually listen to all of my vinyl, and double unfortunately (for ya'll) many of these albums were bought at album release (when i was in my teens). If I am gonna be in strict obedience to Kat's Kommands listing prices up front, I realistically am going to have to inspect and play these things first.

Also, everyone calm down, cuz I didn't really think too hard about my audience when I posted "a LOT of stuff". That would be a lot in comparison to your average guy on the street. But not a lot by standards of you crazy trader-collector freaks!

I ve never had a bad transaction on the boards (knock on wood). I usual give personal references and ask for some of there s. If it sounds fishy it usually is. I really don't do business with someone who hasn't posted a lot.

Yeah, always use paypal, and ALWAYS use the goods and services payment option. You can either add that fee to the cost of the item, or cover it yourself. But that is what protects you, so if someone pushes for the friends and family option, I would actually drop the deal altogether. And when you're talking about items (as opposed to tickets, which more depends on specific circumstances, but still, unless you're doing an in-person transaction, same paypal rules apply), most wouldn't send the item until they received payment.
