Is this going to far????

I'm watching my local news while cooking a lovely Chicken Parmesan and a story just came on that made me think this is stupid and things are getting a little to PC.Let me know what you all think please.

A local black politician who has been outspoken for years on many race issues wants to get the name of a major road that runs thru all of South Florida changed. The road is called "The Old Dixie Highway" (U.S.-1) and( Alt A1A). You may have heard of it.The road runs from Down by Miami all the way up the state and also thru his mostly black area of Palm Beach County. He wants the road renamed after President Obama.
He claims its racial and time for a change. He is trying to get the black community to sign a petition.

Now I support the Removal of the Confederate flag. That shit was really offensive to many, but this seems petty and just plain dumb.

All of us have who have grown up here by the beaches in South Florida know Old Dixie highway and refer to it simply as "Dixie".Its a buisness corridor mostly.

Is there a color connection I'm just not seeing here? How is this even a little offensive? Is Dixie a racial term?I get that the south is referred to as Dixie sometimes but what's wrong with that?I love living ,working, playing and raising a family down here in the sun and fun.Im proud of it.A lot of warm hearted, non hating good people can be found here.

What's next banning the name of stores like Winn-Dixie,or boycotting paper Dixie cups,Not listening to the Dixie Chicks(Well maybe that one)?
I think this PC crap goes way to far sometimes, what do Ya'll think?

This scenario seems a bit of a stretch.

A politician who has been outspoken for years on many race issues is collecting a paycheck for being outspoken for years on many race issues.

Politicians who collect funds for being activists are going too fight too (pun intended) stay relevant, at any cost no matter how ridiculous the argument when it's their bread money on the line.

rr, I live about 3-4 miles from Dixie Highway cross over it many times to get to the island for work and cycling up/down Ocean Blvd. There's no way in this world I'd sign that petition, never in 9 years of working/living here have I thought of that road was in anyway offensive. Now I'd never cycle that road, far too busy to ride and I'm not sure if it has a bike lane. AIA (Dixie Highway) is famous in another positive way though.....Vanilla Ice mentions it in his hit "Ice Ice Baby".

He's on the other side of the same coin and no different from scum like Carson and Allen West. At least name it after someone who most people loved and not someone who, while he made some good decisions, has also done some bad *cough*Monsanto,TPP*cough* as president. Oh, and wait until a new POTUS is sworn in ffs. It's too soon, anyways.

This a is a Rev Thomas Masters/ Rivera Beach thing. So that adds to the nonsense.Maybe he should clean up some of the crime, drug dealing and prostitution along Dixie in his little stretch to start with and not worry about a name.
As you know G ,Dixie Highway is picturesque in Northern Palm Beach County with the bridge over the Inlet/River and the long views.Very little commercial density compared to down south. But what you do have isn't so bad(Gardens Mall/Downtown,etc).
I think Journey and REO also mentions it in song. And please when referencing Vanilla Ice please use his newest title"Wellington man Of the Year".lol

Yes rr, the rev needs to focus MORE on cleaning up the crime and the many delapadated houses in Riveria Beach. When I first moved here I got my haircut in RB and was warned don't get caught there at night. Curious I asked why, I was told just watch the local news. Sure enough when I did almost every night there was a shooting in RB. So that Rev needs to take care of RB before bringing up this issue with Dixie Highway. He cannot be coming around to any success with this petition.

Nice video from Journey there,.....Mr Van Winkle (Vanilla Ice) Ive run into in Wellinton all the time when I lived next to his community. Bowled next to him and his daughters in 07' and he was so gracious and nice to our group of 5. He loves his many tattoos the kids wouldn't stop staring at him, not a very good bowler. Smiles.

We need to get Steven Spielberg on this issue like when he replaced guns with walkie talkies in E.T. re-release.

After Steve is done, the next generation wont know the word confederate and the civil war was actually a huge mock medieval battle fought with foam swords and no one died.

So what does the cancellation of reruns of an 80's television series on TV Land have to do with this current President? If you are still watching such a series then that alone is saying quite a bit about your post. What is ANY President supposed to do when some young man out of hate decides to kill people at bible study in a church?

It appears you seem to want blame this President for inciting these kinds vicious acts/behavior of which he has no control over. You do have to note that they are people in this country that flat out despise the fact that a black man with a funny name is currently occupying the White House. That alone is going to incite race relations negatively by itself.
