Meaning/story behind Yellow Ledbetter?

I did a quick search on here but couldn't find anything about the meaning of the song. The reason I'm asking this is it a person? I just saw Love & Mercy. The autobiographical movie about Brian Wilson. I wasn't too familiar with his past and so forth, just a semi-casual fan. Anyway his wife's name is Melinda Ledbetter. It just got me thinking that's all.

    While I know it's not the case, I found interesting similarities in the words that I hear and "the summer of '42." Ed sings about seeing her and then seeing them on the front porch and they don't wave. In summer of '42 Raucher falls for a much older married woman, Dorothy and he spies her with her husband on their porch and they don't notice him. Her husband is off to join the WWII and Raucher befriends the woman. He helps her taking "boxes" to her attic and also helps her with her "bags" of groceries. Later on he is spying on her again on the front porch when he sees her getting notice that her husband has been killed. He goes to consoles her and ends up making love to her. Very quick synopsis of a good coming of age book/movie. I remember back when Yellow Ledbetter first came out trying to figure out the words and always thought if would be cool if I had figured them out. Of course that's not the case as there really are no set word, but it was fun to think about.

    The whole venue was so damn chatty, but when everyone realized Ed was actually telling the story of Yellow Ledbetter, everybody shut the fuck up at once. I had an extra ticket (granted, it was way up top) that I could not give away to this show. No one I knew wanted to go to NJ, they all were content with the Palace Theater shows. We got the YL story and the debut of Unthought Known ;)

    That nj show was easily my favorite ev solo show.
