Ha! I don't shovel shit in the winters here rr. And I can ģolf all year round sans the 100% humidity! So really, all you have is ed when he feels the needs to take his kids to disney!
I don't know how far away this will be from where you will be staying, but it looks like it could be fun (in a cheesy, touristy sort-of way): http://www.weekiwachee.com/
Yeah I think I'd have to be drunk to do this, lol.
Don't listen to all the jealous Hating responses above. While they are shoveling their driveways 1/2 the year when it's grey and snowy us Floridians are at the beach or on a boat or golfing andHeat and humidity are good for Ya and mean you need less clothing.
.I mean come on Halifax,Ohio are you guys really gonna claim superiority over my tropical paradise.Pleeeeeeeease.Oh and Phoenix, how's that sea breeze treating you? Oh you don't have one.Sorry.
And To my fingerless Bro Scott.Dude,South Cacalaky is 2nd only to West Virginia in Incest and family trees within only one branch. How dare you rag on my beloved state.
Now to answer your question. If your coming in Sept here's some stuff to check out.Not far from Orlando or in the Metro area.
Go to Universal City Walk at night. Some fun eats and lots of happening night spots all in one place. We drive up(Im 2 hrs south) to see shows at the Hard Rock live there. After the Show we always go to The Rising Star Karioke club. They have a super talented house band and watching drunk tourists w/sun burned skin think they are Rock stars is the best. Its done top notch, and you will have a great time.
Head over to Tampa (40 min west)and go party and Eat at World famous Ybor City. Some great eats and you can get some sweet hand rolled cigars, lots of bars, etc.I like the Green Iguana myself.
Catch the Gospel Breakfast or a show at House of Blues.Great venue, check there schedule. That same Downtown Disney area has Cirque De Solea(sp).
Head over to Ra sushi off international Drive in the complex called "the Pointe" they have great saki Bombs and there is a Cuban night club next door which is seedy fun.
Drive east to the Cape Canavral and go to NASA.Tour and IMAX.Really cool.
Go to a game at Ucf or USF
Come south and party in Palm beaches ,Lauderdale or get nasty in South Beach Miami.
Hope it helps.I know it's not as good as a vacation near Cleveland but whatcha gunna do.
Whoa there, big fella! All I said was have lunch at Cinderella's castle. I didn't dish your state. However, when I think of Florida, I generally shudder and wish it would secede from the union. Then I remember that there are SOME nice places to visit, like anywhere else. A drive to the Keys to see the trained cats would be cool and while there visit Hemmingway's house and the offspring of the cats he had. South Beach is a hoot. Get some Cuban food and cigars in Little Havana. Boca Raton and Daytona beaches are very nice. I didn't care for the Tampa area or the waters of the Gulf. Too damn warm and having to do the curly shuffle whilst in the water to avoid the sting rays was a pain. I would like to do an airboat tour of the Everglades. Where I live, I have beaches within 40 minutes that would rival Florida's and I don't have to worry about face eating zombies. But, I'm still considering splitting my time in retirement, if I ever retire or get to, between someplace warm, like Florida, for golf and the weather and Colorado for the summer hiking season and a couple of weeks a year to ski.
PS: I drive with my blinker on all the time just to piss people off. Kidding.

We have some of the largest retirement communities with some of the richest old people alive. They come in October and leave in April. Who doesn't love a winter where its in the 70's everyday with beautiful skies. Plus we have silver hair strip clubs so the old crusty H2TM still has a shot with getting lucky with a stripper.

And rr, you are right no sea breeze out here. Also no tropical storms that come with it. No humidity most of the year and it almost never rains. We are probably tied with the amount of snowbirds though.

We don't have any of those .But I think I'd like to invest in one down here.

We've been to the Princess in Scottsdale a few times.I do love the area, kinda similar to south Florida in demographic and amenities. But my nose bleeds after a couple days, and my skin feels like it's going to dry right up and fall off.lol
When you get here they should give you a bottle of claritin (you will have allergy issues guaranteed if you stay for more than a week) and a bottle of really good lotion. The lotion double serves for really dry skin which is guaranteed as well and for the silver hair clubs. They are 55+ so might need some help.

There are some astonishingly beautiful rivers & springs all over central Florida. If you like to kayak head up to Juniper Springs just north of Orlando in the Ocala National Forest. It's like you're in another country. Or there are a bunch of other springs grouped together along the Sante Fe River about an hour northwest of Orlando (Blue, Poe, Ginnie) that are great for camping/tubing/kayaking. If you change your mind on Jacksonville, let me know and I can offer tons of suggestions. I'd reconsider...its cheaper here than the other FL metropolis' and just as much to do. Beautiful beaches, rivers, great local breweries, tons of great restaurants and some really cool little neighborhoods to explore.
