Will PJ Be On Letterman Again?

I'm not a Letterman fan, but they should be on there. I'll be watching the last shows hoping for some cool moments.
I'd think the Foo's are a lock. I believe, Letterman's favorite band and Grohl would never pass up a chance to shove himself down our collective throat.
I think Letterman is a big Drive-by Truckers fan, so it'd be cool if CBS had the balls to get them to show up.0 -
hope they are back on letterman. dave has been the best thing since carson. we need more toast on a stick. more clips of larry bud melman. dave is an icon. he will be greatly missed. don't like fallon anywhere near as much.0

I think Fallon is hilarious, but I don't find he is that great at interviewing, which is what late night tv is (or was) all about. He's a fantastic entertainer. the stunts and games he gets celebs to play is hilarious tv. but in terms of being serious (and not gushing, come on), it's not his element.foodboy said:hope they are back on letterman. dave has been the best thing since carson. we need more toast on a stick. more clips of larry bud melman. dave is an icon. he will be greatly missed. don't like fallon anywhere near as much.
for pure entertainment value alone, fallon is the easy choice.
if you want good interviews, then dave is the go-to guy on late night.

Umm....cause they're front-running sellouts?
Joking...but ya know...not joking.0 -
Whoever actually books his music is a different story. I cannot believe some of the shit bands they have on way too often. A good one is to go watch the Orwells on youtube. they were on more than once (hard to believe) but there was a really shitty performance where Paul and the band made fun of them after their song while they were still on stage. Hilarious.samjam said:

I was surprised to not see PJ/Ed on that list, but who knows! I just want to be well entertained. I don't give a shit about "serious" interviews with celebrities. Very little of any celebrity interview is serious, lol.HughFreakingDillon said:

when I say serious, I mean interviews about their current movie/project they are promoting. I don't give a shit if it's a kardashian. all they are promoting is themselves. but fallon just gushes like a little kid to everyone he talks to. I find it uncomfortable to watch.PJ_Soul said:

Totally. He is so fake the way he acts like whatever someone is saying is the most mind-blowing thing he's ever heard! And how every semi-funny thing is the hardest he's ever laughed in his life. It's really kind of nauseating. The one exception to this was the Nicole Kidman interview. His songs and skits are usually funny but the interviews are the pits. It makes you wonder if he's going to act like that forever or if he's just trying to overdo everything.HughFreakingDillon said:

Oh, well I totally disagree. I think he is 100% genuine about how excited he is, and acts like he's "gushing" because he's legitimately so excited that he can barely contain himself, lol. That's one of the things I specifically like about him! He is giddy because he's so fucking excited to be there do what he's doing. I totally believe that. And i like spazzed out happy people a LOT. To me it demonstrates passion.High Fidelity 2000 said:

Plus, I also always enjoy an awkward interview, if it happens to go that way, lol. It's interesting. But honestly, you guys sound like you don't watch his show much if you think with all the interviews he's done there is only one exception to it being a good one... He has done tons of really good interviews in anyone's perspective.

I agree that it's probably geniune. But I just don't like his style. I haven't watched in a while, as I cancelled cable. But I see clips all the time on the net, and it's usually the same. I'm not looking for a serious 60 Minutes type interview, but I also don't want to see an interview by someone who seems like they are asking personal "I'm such a fan" questions.PJ_Soul said:

I guess what it boils down to is I like Dave because he's funny, but also very relaxed. I don't like the bounce-out-of-your-chair stuff like Fallon. Again, I think the guy's other stuff on the show is brilliant.
I also couldn't stand Leno. I thought the guy was totally disingenuous and sometimes rude to his guests. Almost like an "you're on MY show, I'm better than you" type of attitude. His sarcasm can come across as kind of being mean-spirited, whereas Dave's is just funny. I would only watch Leno if there was a guest on I was interested in. I have zero idea how he beat Dave in the ratings consistently. I also found him not very funny. At least not on network tv.

Love Dave & I'll miss seeing him on tv. That being said, I don't watch him as much as I used to b/c I just don't stay up super late that often anymore.
Really hope that PJ returns before he's off the air.I LOVE MUSIC.

i really hoped they would, but it doesn't look like it. seemed like they started chasing ratings with their late night appearances starting with conan and the tonight show.i'm more a fan of popular bands.. like the bee-gees, pearl jam0

I think it is the other way around. The appearances seemed to benefit the hosts ratings more so than PJ.DPrival78 said:i really hoped they would, but it doesn't look like it. seemed like they started chasing ratings with their late night appearances starting with conan and the tonight show.
Letterman and SNL was guaranteed ratings with PJ on. I really don't think that PJ did it for ratings but more out of friendship.0 -
Maybe they'll do Colbert's debut in September.0

I don't think PJ ever appeared on Letterman for television ratings, and certainly never out of friendship. The only reason they showed up was to promote an album or the VFC Tour. 1996, 98, 2000, 02, 04, 06. Since Lightning Bolt is 2 years old I doubt they're doing any TV appearances.PJfanwillneverleave1 said:

I think it was more of "Hi this is Dave, we have a slot for you guys to promote your new album and I am a huge fan of you guys, fuck what my producers think because I own my show. Can you guys come on such and such date and if not when does it work for you"?
Ultimately I really do think it was always in the best interest of the host when PJ was playing as a guest.

Agreed with this--he seems legitimately interested in each and every guest, and truly excited about being there. He's my favorite late nite host, along with Conan.PJ_Soul said:

Unless the guest is something like a recent "Bruce Jenner", the ratings fall mostly on the host and Letterman, at this stage, isn't really relevant to the Late Night battle... falling to fifth in the ratings.RS151862 said:

Come on, it's an act. No one is that amazed and blown away by anything Ryan Reynolds has to say. I was saying the Nicole Kidman interview was the exception because if Nicole Kidman was telling you she liked you and thought you were on a date with her and then wondered if you were gay, it would probably make you fall out of your chair too. At least it would to me.samjam said:
