Surely the remaining band members would chip in the rest. Weird they haven't come out and said whether they support this at all.
and this is also assuming they have the money to give. one major hit single 20 years ago probably wouldn't pay the bills of 4 guys and the 5th guy's estate for very long.
True. Rogers is a corporate lawyer these days. Went to law school after the band broke up.

some of the stuff that band does I find very weird. I mean, they have a new lead singer. they made a (really good) album with him (and he killed it live-saw them in a 600 capacity club). then he wasn't in the band. then he is again. now, they are still doing shows with the guy. yet, everything on the website still points to SHANNON still being in the band. most of their newer merch is even geared towards the days when Shannon was in the band. their shirts all have a sexed up teenager Bee Girl on them, one of their NEW hoodies says "Hoon and Bros". Seriously? great way for your singer to feel like he's second rate. Can you imagine if everything Alice In Chains sold had a picture of Layne on it?
and yeah, if they are adding perks to donation tiers that previously had nothing, the people that donated should absolutely get those new perks.
Really good point here. Always my all time #2 band, but I think there's a point where it does get a little weird. Agreed about the 08' tour - Travis sounded fucking awesome and all the new stuff worked well with the old stuff. Now they seem like a full blown nostalgic act who tours in South America and doesn't make any more new Melon music. Thorn is pretty fucking active though - all over other people's stuff, producing, etc,.

I imagine the singer knew what he was getting into, and have to assume he's okay with it, or else he'd quit. Let's face it. He was chosen because he sounds like Shannon Hoon. The band 100% feeds off of what the band was when Hoon was alive. The guy knows that.

he did quit. then he came back.
but at the time he was hired, they seemed to be moving forward. maybe the reason he left was because they wanted to capitalize on the Hoon years too much, who knows. they only play sporadic shows now, so it doesn't seem like they will be doing anything "new" per say, so the point is moot.
I would assume the band is somewhat involved as they've promoted it on their fb page. HOwever....it is Shannon's video diary to be used, no? Hard to say if any/much money from the film will go to them...the exposure, I'm sure, will benefit them regardless. As for their financial situations...don't know about the rest of them, but Rogers Stevens is now a corporate lawyer.
Have you guys clicked the kickstarter page lately? There is a cover of Sleepyhouse by Jim James (MMJ), and Seth Avett (Avett Brothers) does St.Andrews Fall in support of the campaign

Yeah, I don't think the members of the current Blind Melon are rich. They earn a living, but that's probably about it..... Actually, I wonder if just the Blind Melon gig does even that. It's not like the current band is raking in the dough through album sales and shows, lol. Can they even sell out a bar?? And royalties from S/T and Soup spread that thin couldn't be doing much for them at all. Probably just pennies at this point.
I know a while back, when people were posting on their page to 'come to Kalamazoo' or whatever, they would reply by saying, 'book us a show! make it happen!'....last time they played in Calgary, it was at the Deerfoot casino, and not part of a tour. I'm guessing they probably charge a booking fee of about 10-15k per show and take a cut of the gate or whatever....Not sure if the calgary show sold out, but I think it was close. Still, they'd probably be hard pressed to do a tour of large bars and make much money at it....probably not worth being away from home that long at middle age, if they have families or anything else going on in their lives.

Sweet! Thanks for the tip!

Awesome!!! Wow, that was sudden. I didn't think they were going to make it!
neither did I. But I'm also wondering how this is going to be made still. Clinch said they have to raise a total of $300,000 to cover all the licensing/legal costs, but they only did a third of that as they didn't think they could do the full 300 through kickstarter.

He probably found enough producers willing to fund the rest of it or something.
