Is it okay for a man to wear concealer?

I was going to say I was asking for a friend, but that would be an obvious lie. So I use a CPAP machine and the mask I wear leaves a big, red outline on my face. It looks especially bad against my pasty, white skin. I also get a little acne from time to time and the stuff I bought has acne treatment in it. I know it's a girl's product - there are no men's faces on the product labels. But I admit it looks way better, but I feel weird wearing it. The salesperson told me lots of men use it, but then again she's a salesperson and would probably say anything to make a sale. Do I deserve to be teased(go easy on me, I'm just as sensitive as my skin lol)? Or is it okay?

    Apnea or acne, chadwick?

Yeah, Trophy Man - not a big deal from this woman's point of view.

I'm sorry you have to deal with it. Just make sure that it is a color blends into your skin tone and that doesn't show up. (Your salesperson probably helped you with that.) Until you get used to applying it, make certain that you double check it in your car mirror to make sure well blended before heading out. Outdoor light is different than what you get indoors and may give you a view of something that you need to give a little blending to. Date the bottom of whatever product that you have and make certain that you switch it out according to the date they suggest on the package. Make-up can be a breeding ground for bacteria and can cause more acne that what you may be experiencing on a regular basis. If your product uses little sponges to apply it, make certain to buy a few extra. Those can get a bit icky after time.

I would make sure the foundation is water based hypoallergenic(as opposed to oil base) otherwise the oil base can aggravate any acne issues, also if you go to a makeup counter in a bigger department store like Macy's etc... they can make a blend of color that matches your skin perfectly in both indoor and outdoor lighting( thus way less obvious and barely noticeable if at all of wearing any foundation/concealer.) Please don't worry about the assholes, they won't even know!!!

& back in washington's time im very certain no one knew a thing about apnea. washington used to doze off during important meetings/gatherings with his peers & whatnot. its a very sickening feeling.

Excellent advice Amy! She has the answer spot on! I'd just like to add to remember to blend into the hair lines, and down to just under the jowl line. Otherwise it looks Mask-ish. Hope that this works well for you. I have a nervous condition that causes me to pick at any imperfections on my face.. So as you can imagine, I can look a little frightening without Make-up. And the sales lady is right. Guys are doing that now.. As long as you feel ok with it, screw everybody else's opinion! ( easier said than done I. Know!)

ah, fuck, I use my wife's make up all the time. I have this bad obsession with destroying any zit I have on my face, and that sometimes means it looks like a nuclear bomb went off on my cheek/forehead/nose/wherever. so, out comes to makeup! LOL

People can do whatever they want to do as long as it doesn't affect other unwilling people. But what I've noticed about men who try using concealer is that they have no clue how to use it properly, and I'm pretty sure I've never seen a guy use the correct shade for their skin, or even the correct kind of make-up for their purposes. So if they want to use it for whatever reason, they really need to consult with a woman who knows makeup and can actually see the results and can say it's a good or a bad job.

My Dad FINALLY got a CPAP machine about 6 weeks ago. He has needed one for many years - has probably had sleep apnea for the past 30 years, easy. I could never convince him to get one. Finally he saw a specialist regarding memory loss and such and one was recommended. He has never felt better. I wish he'd done it sooner, but at least he's sleeping like a baby now.

Good for you for taking the time and effort to care for your health. A lot of men and women too, just won't. And if the concealer makes you feel better, by all means do it.

I'll just echo what everyone's already said. There's nothing wrong with a man wearing make up, and anyone who tries to tell you differently is probably a miserable tool.

I need to learn how to use that stuff myself.

I think it's fine. When my son had some complexion issues in high school, I let him use my concealer (Clinique) and he was dubious at first, but then realized - hey, this is great.

I think it's fine...famous men wear it and new anchors...and stuff like that, so why should you be embarassed to use a little to hide those lines...I know what they look like...My grandma has apnea and uses a CPAP too...they are brutal to the face...so I say if it makes you feel more confident and comfortable then you should totally go for it!

It's great that your treating the Apnea.Thats the important Thing.

I think this is exactly what concealment creams are made for.

    Have you tried nasal pillows?

If you're gonna use concealer, make sure you wash your face every night before bed, or you'll aggravate your skin even more. Might want to wipe down the mask (the part that touches your face) with some rubbing alcohol every morning too.

Thank you. I'm getting better at washing my face every night. I'm usually too lazy. And I wipe my mask down with CPAP Mask Wipes, which cleans and deodorizes but is alcohol-free. Should I use rubbing alcohol instead?

I have not. I don't think those will work for me. The questionnaire I did suggested the full face mask is what I need. Maybe I will talk to my sleep therapist and see if she has any suggestions. Thanks.

No, if you have special wipes, then use those. Some masks are made of different materials which could be affected by the alcohol.
Thankfully you are taking care of a serious sleeping issue.

I got my first CPAP machine in 2009. It lasted five years. I never slept a night without it. Probably the best purchase I've ever made in my life. Just got my second machine in November- and my benefits covered the cost this time. I'll never sleep without one. It's like night and day.
