New Soundgarden Expected 2016-Pearl Jam long layoff?

HughFreakingDillonHughFreakingDillon Winnipeg Posts: 35,852
I just read that SG is going to begin work on a new album in a few months slated for release in 2016. To me, this means that PJ is headed for an extended period of inactivity. If Matt's in the studio and then they'll be touring, we won't see a major PJ tour for at least 2 years, maybe longer. Maybe we'll get some side project work, a new Ed solo album. (RELEASE OUT OF THE FURNACE SOUNDTRACK, ED!) Maybe a week or two tour of Australia or Europe while SG is breaking from the studio. Or one off festivals this summer. when was the last time the entire band hit Oz? That would be pretty cool.

So you have a long time to save your pennies for seeing them cross Canada in 2017. LOL.

hopefully Jeff will spend a lot of that time gathering ephemera for the No Code/Yield box.

We can definitely expect some re-issues. RNDM will have a new album out with a tour to back it up. Mike has been super busy with tons of side projects. Hopefully we'll see some new solo stuff from Ed and Stone, maybe a new Brad album. I for one am pumped about a new Soundgarden album. King Animal was stellar and they sound as good as ever.

They'll be quiet this year in blow out in 2016 for 25th-year anniversary tour, HoF. We've known that for a while. SG has long been planning a new LP.

we've "known" that they will have a 25th anniversary tour? I must have missed that press release. :) and SG has been hinting at the possibility of recording together again, but nothing, to my knowledge, had been confirmed.

Reading way too much into it I think. Both bands seem to do 3 week or so tours. SG a little longer at times. PJ will work their schedule around SG's and vice versa. Nothing unexpected about this.

    Agree with this 100%
It sounds like Pearl Jam is touring South America in November, it'll probably be a year similar to 2007 or 2012 as far as number of shows go. Pearl Jam plays 12-25 shows each year and this year won't be any different.

Regarding the studio, it's not like these bands go in there for months at a time. Lightning Bolt was recorded in two separate two or three week sessions.

It would be cool if we could get a new EV disc, or maybe a Lost Dogs II, or the eventual release of No Code/Yield box? - Maybe that's what the live shows from this past tour are slated for... potential for vinyl releases of each album (No Code and Yield)!

PJ probably have enough unreleased songs to put out a Lost Dogs 2,3, and 4. Or release one unreleased song a month.

not reading too much into anything. I think it's fair to say that if Matt is busy with SG for a while, then he might eventually want a break from both bands. I'd be more than happy with an Ed solo album and tour anyway.

I'm cool with PJ taking 2016 off. I'm excited to see all the members do their own cool things. I'm stoked about RNDM, and now stoked for a new SG album, and am also hoping that Eddie has something up his sleeve... a new solo album for him perhaps??? That would be awesome!

don't want to see side projects. want the real thing. time off is not a good thing. i don't believe it. they will play some where. the parts are not as strong as the whole. not even close. soundgarden like them but they are no pearl jam. don't have any where near the quality of material. nuff said

Well since the Squamish Music Festival line-up is really weak.., it sure would be nice to see them headline Pemby at the end of July. That would be an absolute blast. That or a couple shows at the Gorge one weekend this summer. ;)

For what it's worth, Soundgarden is playing here in Kitchener, Ontario on July 11th. This is the only summer date thus far so I am not sure if it's a one off or if other dates will be revealed.
The last PJ show I went to was the best PJ show ever, that is until they come around again of course
