Jon Stewart is leaving the Daily Show

Once again I've been schooled by the media expert BSL12. I have no clue how the news will ever be delivered again with the huge void that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert left behind. God damn you Brian Williams!backseatLover12 said:a5pj said:
Thing is they got the new right with facts more often that "real" news shows, even though they are comedians...Last-12-Exit said:You understand that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert were comedians that hosted comedy shows right? They were comedians that made fun of the news. They did it very well, but I don't see a huge shift in media as a result of 2 comedians leaving the daily show.
Thank you.rgambs said:
Did you never see the surveys that showed that Daily Show viewers were more informed than viewers of "news" giants like Fox and CNN?0 -
…says the guys who said he trusts NBC to tell him the truth.

I can't find it right now, but you said in one of these threads that Williams "just reads the news" and you trust NBC much more than you trust Brian Williams.0

I did say that he reads the news. I did not say that I trusted anyone. I did say that I did not care that Brian Williams lied. I did not say NBC forced Williams to lie.backseatLover12 said:I can't find it right now, but you said in one of these threads that Williams "just reads the news" and you trust NBC much more than you trust Brian Williams.

There are a lot of people I can think of who would be funny, but none who would be as politically savvy as Stewart. His take on politics, his ingelligent perspective, combined with his brand of humour and ability to deliver it so well seems pretty unique to me. I don't know who they could possibly find to fill his shoes. Sure, there are comedians who might be a riot (i.e. Norm MacDonald), but none of them would really cut it ease of the truly thoughtful and level-headed political perspective that Stewart could convey through the comedy.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Buddy and I went to MSG to see PJ. Last minute went to CC website and requested tickets to see Jon. Was selected but first come first served(after VIPS) so we headed right over and got in. During warmup Jon talks to audience so he asks what brought people to NYC. I take opportunity to tell him seeing PJ and as I got tickets through ten C offered him the second ticket. He laughed and said " isn't this show enough"?
Were the loudest in crowd so director gave us his blue cue papers after show. With scribbles. They want crowd to be loud. Will miss Jon and yeah it was parody but think his show did much for US.

It is absolutely insane what some of these companies get away with. I had no idea the lengths these people go to, sueing some of the poorest countries in the world. Shameful. Jeff the diseased lung is great.Gern Blansten said:I watched John Olivers show last night from Sunday. Really good piece about big tobacco....

And where would we hear a story like that if it wasn't for John Oliver? Comedy yes....but some serious investigative journalism is in there as well.Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

One of the best things going on tv right now. Very intelligent with some really good humor. Also no commercials which is always fantastic.Gern Blansten said:And where would we hear a story like that if it wasn't for John Oliver? Just fucking brilliant. Here's another example of his brilliance. A three part segment on gun control back when Oliver was on The Daily Show.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pOiOhxujsE&list=PLOKWcH1zBl2kfnCwyyZWk5MW28lgaNa7L

John Oliver is great. Just saw a really good one about the Miss America Pageant and how they fudge their numbers when it comes to how much money they claim to make available in scholarships, a number that they use to justify the whole sick program (and he also pointed out how disgusting the whole Miss America thing really is). I REALLY like his show. And yes, they really do do some good investigative reporting, funny or not. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. I binge watched the whole first season a little while back to get caught up. It really is worth going back if you haven't seen them all. They even had the smoking baby on the tobacco segment.PJ_Soul said:John Oliver is great. Jon Stewart's 'Daily Show' Segment Leads To Huge Change For Veterans

Yay! I can only hope the show remains activist.
"The rule kept many who lived far from hospitals by roads from using the program. But on Tuesday, seemingly in response to what Stewart called his "damning piece of investigative joke-a-lism," the Department of Veterans Affairs changed the rule and will now use actual driven miles based on Google Maps rather than "as-the-crow-flies" miles. "Falling down,...not staying down0
