Those are going to be big shoes to fill. I watched last nights show...their takedown of Faux News on the King of Jordan was hilarious

I don't think that show can survive without him.

Double kick to the nuts of Comedy Central.

But I remember everyone thinking they were screwed when douchbag Kilborn left.

They have loads of talent. It also makes sense to do it at the end of this season/year or whatever. Allows the new person to really get their teeth into during the election cycle

Smart business move if you ask me.

They said he's leaving later in the year. I'm hoping, like mid-November. :disappointed:
  • stewart is a star-maker. everyone who has ever worked with him has become a star in their own right.

i vote samantha bee should replace him.

gonna miss him for sure though.

Would Tina Fey be a candidate?
  • He was a trailblazer and one of a kind. I hope he doesn't stay away from the spotlight too long and gets under another project. I will miss his outlook and humor for sure.

I think I'm one of the few who's sort of "meh" when it comes to her. Liked her on 30 Rock but not so much aside from that.
  • John Oliver surprised me....he could definitely do it but I think he's happy at HBO now.

i think she would be great on a weekend update kind of show. i just do not picture her doing the biting political commentary that stewart does though. samantha bee does it wonderfully.

Watching the 6 pm repeat last night .... damn ... losing him and Colbert pretty much sucks.

As for the Nightly Show ... can't judge too quickly cause it takes a few months for shows to gel ... but they got a whole lot of gelling that needs to gel.

Me thinks the Comedy Central exec's are going to see smaller bonuses next December. Pretty much worst case scenario, outside a Charlie Hebdo attack. Outside Southpark, those two shows were their bread and butter.
  • There's a huge media shift right now. Bill Moyers, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart leaving, Brian Williams getting suspended for 6 months (probably forever) and the deaths of David Carr, Bob Simon and Ned Colt. There will be a huge shift in what we see in media moving forward. I just hope this brings about more scrutiny in the inaccurate reporting everywhere and brings about new faces that actually have journalistic integrity.
  • You understand that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert were comedians that hosted comedy shows right? They were comedians that made fun of the news. They did it very well, but I don't see a huge shift in media as a result of 2 comedians leaving the daily show.

Thing is they got the new right with facts more often that "real" news shows, even though they are comedians...
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

  • Faux News gave them TONS of material. It was always hilarious when they played clip after clip of Fox talking heads contradicting themselves.

Did you never see the surveys that showed that Daily Show viewers were more informed than viewers of "news" giants like Fox and CNN?

Doesn't mean that was where they were getting their news though. Just perhaps more tech savvy with better access to multiple sources and willing to seek it out.

Once again I've been schooled by the media expert BSL12. I have no clue how the news will ever be delivered again with the huge void that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert left behind. God damn you Brian Williams!

Not once did I say that
  • I can't find it right now, but you said in one of these threads that Williams "just reads the news" and you trust NBC much more than you trust Brian Williams.

I did say that he reads the news. I did not say that I trusted anyone. I did say that I did not care that Brian Williams lied. I did not say NBC forced Williams to lie.

There are a lot of people I can think of who would be funny, but none who would be as politically savvy as Stewart. His take on politics, his ingelligent perspective, combined with his brand of humour and ability to deliver it so well seems pretty unique to me. I don't know who they could possibly find to fill his shoes. Sure, there are comedians who might be a riot (i.e. Norm MacDonald), but none of them would really cut it ease of the truly thoughtful and level-headed political perspective that Stewart could convey through the comedy.

Buddy and I went to MSG to see PJ. Last minute went to CC website and requested tickets to see Jon. Was selected but first come first served(after VIPS) so we headed right over and got in. During warmup Jon talks to audience so he asks what brought people to NYC. I take opportunity to tell him seeing PJ and as I got tickets through ten C offered him the second ticket. He laughed and said " isn't this show enough"?
Were the loudest in crowd so director gave us his blue cue papers after show. With scribbles. They want crowd to be loud. Will miss Jon and yeah it was parody but think his show did much for US.

It is absolutely insane what some of these companies get away with. I had no idea the lengths these people go to, sueing some of the poorest countries in the world. Shameful. Jeff the diseased lung is great.

  • And where would we hear a story like that if it wasn't for John Oliver? Comedy yes....but some serious investigative journalism is in there as well.
