Will an acoustic/rarities tour ever happen?

A couple years ago I read this article on Tom Petty and a short rarities tour (11 dates). This would allow some fans an intimate and unique experience. A chance to see new songs.

I still love all of the often-played songs, but it would be exciting to go to a show knowing the band wouldn't be playing any of the songs they've played 300+ times. (Even Flow played 778 times ... and counting, thanks PJ Stat Tracker.)

What is stopping Pearl Jam from doing something like this? Is it strictly a money thing? Too much demand? Too little demand? (I don't know, I'm just asking.) Would smaller venues, acoustic-style shows solve the ringing ears/burning knee issues? (Jeff talked about it here, and he's not the only one with a cranky knee.)

The problem with smaller venues is smaller paycheques. Pearl Jam doesn't really tour all that much (compared to a number of other rock bands with similar or more seniority). I can't see Pearl Jam using what little time they want to allocate to touring to do a tour of smaller venues.

I felt like the Gorge 05 show was a bit of a Lost Dogs tour show. They didn't wait until the encore to bust out the rare and the bsides. Out of all the shows I've been to, it felt like it was for a lost dogs tour.

After this years Yield/No Code experiments, I could see them doing it as a surprise. They don't really seem to be the band that will tour on something "marketable".

I doubt it... but you never know. It would be cool.

God I hope not. PJ is too energetic for an entire acoustic tour. And thank goodness for it.
I know I was born and I know that I'll die. The in between is mine.

No. They have lots of chances every tour, and haven't done it. Too many people only know songs from 10, but keep buying concert tix, and then get dissapointed when they get songs they have never heard before. It will happen no matter what they do.

Pj clearly enjoy playing to packed houses and feeding off the crowds energy. whilst this would be a dream for the hardcore fans, it wouldn't make much sense for the band. Maybe a one off show but to take the crew out on tour to small venues when they could pack out arenas just doesn't make a deal of sense. Ticket prices would be a mess, the secondary market would benefit massively and many fans would be shut out.

  • Isn't that what Bridgeschool is? An acoustic set?
