So it was the guy next to me in row 5 that brought it up to Eddie about the way security was freaking out about cell phone pictures. They threaten to take my camera away during "I am Mine". I told the security guard that it is PJ policy to allow photos if it is not a professional camera. I told the security guard to get someone from Eddie's security. He came out; barked at me and told me if I pulled it out again it would be last time I'd ever see it. This from a 2 mega pixel cell phone camera with no flash I might add

I saw security be rude to others as well. This is what prompted my friend next to me to make Eddie aware.

I've seen PJ 17 times and have never had this issue before. I've seen Brad and the Rockfords both 5 times each and have never had this issue. I saw EV surprise do three songs for Michael Moore and another time and have never had this issue. I've been in the fan club since 1997. The show was fantastic but unfortunately what is going to stick out in my mine was how rude security was. It was in my mind the entire drive back to Seattle.

I heard from somewhere that this was EV's new policy. I understand if security is just "doing their job" but this was insanity!!!

I would like to hear from fans who are going to tonights show and the rest of the tour for that matter to see if they end up lightening up or if they are going to be pricks about it the entire tour.

Thank you!

It wouldn't have been "insanity" if so many people hadn't been hellbent on circumventing the no cameras/recorders request.

no kidding, there were/are rules to this tour ... follow them, or don't come.

  • I was in row 2. the guy 3 seats away got his camera taken away.
They warned me once (and this was during intermission when I had my camera phone pointed towards the stage) and the second time i caught them leaning over my shoulder to see if i was taking pictures.. I wasn't...

whatever... it was oober gay, its not like there was alot of flashes going off. I think I seen 2 the whole evening. But then again I wasn't paying attention to what was going on behind me.
  • The security is doing their job. If cameras were allowed, they wouldn't have the signs up outside.

You were warned and you took more pictures afterwards. You are in the wrong.

Not sure why people even take pictures with their crappy point and shoots. All the pictures are usually pretty bad.

There were no problems where I was seated, but in talking with others, it was really disruptive when people were taking pictures and security kept having to walk in front of them to tell them no. It was well documented way before and signs outside and even people telling people in line that there were to be no cameras. Why can't people just listen and follow directions? I really feel for the people that missed parts of the show, due to, for a lack of a better term, idiots. :( :)

Your argument that Pearl Jam had allowed pictures in the past is ridiculous! Last night was not a Pearl Jam show, it was an Eddie Vedder show. The new policy has been posted here for quite a while so it shouldn't have been a surprise. Security last night also made the policy very clear on the way in to the theater. The only reason security was so disruptive last night was because people like youself felt like they had some god-given right to take pictures all night. Why couldn't you have just put the camera away and just enjoyed the show? What about all the people around you that were probably disturbed by you causing security to come over multiple times. How is this considerate to others?

To everyone else that thinks that they can take pictures and can tell security to just back off, please think again and consider all the other people around you that you are disturbing by calling security over. Just enjoy the show! It really is incredible!

I find it much more pleasing to experience a live performance through my eyes, rather than the lens of a camera. You've already seen Ed/Pearl Jam a bunch of times... a 2 mega pixel phone/camera... Why would you want crappy pictures?
    Just kick back and enjoy.
    ...
P.S. Security would have left you alone if you had been smoking a joint instead of holding up a camera/phone.

  • I couldn't agree more...many people it seems get hung up in documenting the moment more than experiencing it. I'm not anti-camera at shows but there's a time and place for everything

to be perfectly fair, it is a NEW policy.
yes it was posted here, but not everyone actually reads the boards. far from it.
Don't know if it was mentioned in the email for people that got 10c tix, but I doubt very much it was to people who bought general sale tickets.

so it's fair for someone that has been at PJ gigs before, to assume the policy hasn't changed.

And even if it said 'no cameras' on signs outside, nobody ever pays attention to those.

    just saying..

I would agree with you except for the fact that there were HUGE signs outside and people walking up and down the line telling people. Even when you picked up your tickets they told you. It was a huge discussion in the line as well. :)

so when checking bags if they see a camera do they make you go back to your car to put it away, or is it more just not taking pics inside? wondering if i should just go ahead and do that. only ask because i'm planning to bring mine to SC for sure just cuz it's a pretty town, not planning on taking any inside :)

Hi! The security getting into the venue in Vancouver was very lax, they didn't check my purse at all! But, as I said, there were HUGE signs about no cameras and no pics to be taken. Also, venue people walking up and down the line talking about the issue. I don't know about other venues, it may change and I think it probably will depending on the venue etc. :) There were lots of people taking pics around us, but it was later in the set and no flashes. I'd say leave it to the pros. :)

I found it funny that half the venue was trying to Check the Canucks score on their phones in every way possible...

then security would come over and give them shit ....

But every 20 min you would see a guy hiding his phone like it was a pound of weed under his jacket .... looking for the score ........

That was kinda funny as it had security running around hunting out Canuck Fans !!

I know there are rules and all but I thought the security was way too harsh, the way they were talking to people and making them delete the photos one by one in front of the security. Thats far more distracting than a flash, and the guy 2 rows ahead of me in row 2 wasnt using a flash and he had to delete them all. If the issue is the flashes and whatnot causing an annoyance i think it is far more annoying to have a guy with his flashlight shining on the guy with the cell phone then just letting someone take a picture. I think people know when its a bad time and when is a good time to take a picture.

And what was with that girl who threw something on stage? Looked like she just wanted to give Ed a shirt or a letter or something and the security guy grabbed her so hard and fast and dragged her away, I think thats why people were booing, not because she threw something on stage, and I dont think Eddie had any idea what was going on. But the way the guy grabbed her was so uncalled for, spacifically the bald securty guard, I saw him a lot being a totally dick.

My favorite part of threads like this is that the person that created the thread never came back after everyone responded to him/her.

Classic stuff.......gotta love those that can hide behind the computer screen. In the real world if you come with something like this, eventually you have to come back and face that which you created.

    God Bless the internet!!!!!!!!!!!

you know im gonna have to go ahead and agree with this, you know the rules, this isn't Pearl Jam. This is Eddie Vedder and they clearly stated No Cameras/Recorders, if you want to take pictures you run the risk of a) losing your shit or b) getting kicked out, plain and simple.

Im sure its the venue too and not 100% Ed.

I think its a more of a copyright issue than a flash issue...

and yeah that girl getting kicked out that way was bullshit, but hey im sure nobody expected buddy at the Damageplan show to jump up on stage and shoot dimebag in the face i bet. There just doing there job.

Jake? (behind Mike. Clearer picture in Deep 1, membership policy page)
we (well, not I but many) throw shit on stage all the time, he's used to it..and it takes a lot to get him worked up anyway!
...either there was more going on than you saw (when did I have that conversation..oh yes, Bologna  ), or it's not him we're talking about.

i didnt see any of the regular security, all the complaints are over the security hired by the venue ...

All the security, bartenders, coat checkers, and ushers that I met we're probably the nicest of any venue I've been at recently. But then again, I wasn't being a dickhead , taking any pictures, texting, or yelling for "Crazy Mary" either ;)

I was choked at the show. the guy complains about how security is distracting walking up and down the asiles, doing whats asked not to let people take photos. something we should respect....
Dont you think some ass infront of you taking non stop photos is more distracting than some guy walkin up and down now and then. i was choked. eddie asked security to relax and all everyone did was take more photos which he didnt want in the first place. Everyone settle down with the cameras let everyone around you enjoy the show.

WOW! This is really, really bad! I heard it on the boot before but this is the first time I've seen it. Now I think the new policy is very, very OK!
  • I got to sit in Row G, far right, right next to the security team and reporters. They were ALL wonderful folks. Unbelievably, the idiot next to me made at least 10 calls during the show and they stared right at him with no apparent problem since he wasn't taking any photos. His buddy about got thrown out after not 1 or 2 but 3 warnings! I thought they showed a lot of patience as it was clear early on they meant what they said but folks were just hell-bent on not following the rules. I wish they would have thrown people out for talking on the phone during the show or who were so drunk they actually couldn't find their seat (after walking out during Liam Finn!?), I thought the only people who do that kind of crap are the chumps that get to sit behind home plate during the Game of the Week.

I stated this some where else on this board but here goes. I saw Neil young back in December and he was recording the accouistic sets for a dvd/cd release. Not only was security after anyone with a phone( if you got one out they were on you like stink on shit). You also couldn't take anything into the theartre to drink or snack. Not even a bottle of water. This is one of the best shows I've ever seen. The security did there job and it was all Neil. No asshats with there dumb phone taking pictures or anything else. The way everybody whines here shows how we are becoming a me socity. Maybe Eddie wants to record the shows and sell them to the public and not have some asshat ruin a great song he wants to add to the disc. What would you have done if you went to the show with your parents and they told you not to take pictures and disturb all the other poeple around you? Be the little whiney me me me and not respect your parents. My pictures my tickets my seats my poster my my my. What did you do before cell phones? Later yostarama
