I get the curiosity, but not sure the difference it makes in the end.

What's your take on it? Do you think the personal lens and view might change, even be biased, based on knowing that?

For me, it's been a pretty cool - and fortunately on-going - experience to share so much in time, emotion, words...the baring of ourselves and then some...with (save for one or two) people I've never met in the traditional sense. It's a spectrum of political and personal views that I'm not sure could or should be compartmentalized.

As to the initial question, I say "it doesn't matter much to me".

The people of America would have a multitude of parties and platforms if we could get out from under the influence of big money. Big money controls the two party system and will never let go.
One thing to never forget is that at least half of Americans are just dumb. It's a fact ~X(
I read today 41% of American adults think antibiotics treat viruses. A higher percentage believe houses can be haunted by ghosts than believe vaccines are safe and effective.

The particular music / song we've got going at the moment, it fits (Highwaymen).

Think you folks are more than OK, and while I don't know you, PJfan, I sincerely appreciate sincerely-asked questions and answers.

    (also - Last12's a stand-up guy...although BB may fight me on that :D )

Easy.I agree with you it doesn't matter, but I also acknowledge that in these here parts It's clearly predominantly Democratic. Those of us who are not, are much smaller in number.

I'd say there's a lot of dems but there's also a lot of indys here as well. Republican, not so much, unless they just don't post.

I belong to the shit party. I shit on all of them. It's to bad there isn't the American Party. You know, the one that actually DOES shit for the American people, NOT corporations. Now wouldn't that be a concept?

Been a registered independent ("unenrolled" is the actual term here in Massachusetts) since I turned 18 and voted for the first time. That was 21 years ago.

    More than half are dumb.

With 100 being the so called 'average' IQ... with certainty we can describe half the population as legitimately stupid. But don't stop there: I would say the next quartile is dumb as well- not as painfully dumb... but stupid nonetheless and essentially counterproductive to progress.

The 'smartest' quarter of our population is not above stupidity. They can be dumb too- just not as consistently as some of the really simple folk.

It's nobody's fault. It's just reality. No matter how much we evolve, there will always be a massive faction of the people dumber than the most intelligent of our species.

We have also enabled stupidity. We have solved many of the problems people encounter with technology. For example, people no longer need to look at maps to navigate their way through unfamiliar territory- they now have phones that can do the thinking for them.

Instead of working their way through problems (for example, a clogged dishwasher) people consult YouTube and 'monkey see monkey do'. They learn how to fix a problem... good... but they don't learn how to think through a problem... bad (from my perspective anyway).

In short, we have removed the 'process' from the equation and have become product orientated ("just tell me what to do"). The challenges we used to face that sharpened us are being removed to the point where everyday thinking is not a requirement... for good or bad.

It must be painful for the world's smartest people to coexist with us orangutans. No wonder they are generally reclusive and no wonder they are 'socially awkward'. Their existence is tantamount to grown adults living alongside toddlers.

I so agree with this - "progress laced with ramifications" seems to apply more and more these days.

It's like the cars that have a rear-view camera built in, or parallel parks itself. To toss aside my own checks - not to mention responsibility, in a sense - diminishes thought processes.

I've often wondered about these devices; when the technology doesn't work as it's supposed to, will people hold the makers of those black boxes accountable, or themselves?

Can of worms, I tell ya!

  • I like technology.. But I still keep a US map in my car at all times. I know how to
Navigate a map.. I still memorize numbers as well as post them
In my contacts in my phone.. I still know how to determine North from south with out a compass.. I believe we should still learn these things. I agree though with TBU we have enabled stupidity.. Sad but true. Oh and I for one am a POSTING and voting Republican.. And proud of it!
