I had a great time last night. I am unfamiliar with anything Dead, other than the stuff that everyone knows (Truckin, Friend of the Devil, Box of Rain, Casey Jones, etc). But as a music lover in general, and a big Mayer fan, I had to find a way in to that free show. Luckily was able to find a last minute ticket! I really enjoyed the first set especially--upbeat, more interesting jams. 2nd set was a lot slower for me, especially in the beginning, but still cool. Let me tell you--holy crap that crowd/atmosphere. I don't think I've even seen a PJ crowd react quite like that (though night 2 in that same building I'd say was probably pretty comparable). It felt like a family in there. I can see why people have such strong connections to the band and music. Overall, I had a great night. Cool to experience something completely foreign to me.

My first experience as well Friday. Way different than a PJ crowd. 75% of PJ fans are concerned about their view where the Dead fans are about the music. We actually moved from side stage to behind the stage to have more room for the 2nd set (Friday) and it was waaaay more fun moving around with other people.

So mad at myself for just really getting into Dead music more this year

  • Love reading these comments of first timers going to dead related shows. Wish I could make it to one of these Dead and Co. shows. Luckily I was able make it to Fare thee Well.

And I will agree as much i love a PJ crowd- Dead and Phish crowds are much more chill and way less concerned about how well they can see a bunch of middle aged dudes on stage. Plus everyone stands at Dead and Phish shows no matter where their seats are!

Ya, reading these are great. And if you really want to see a crowd, check out a phish show ;)
