Some facts for the Obama haters

"There's this tone that implies they're smarter than everyone else, that they're dropping profound truth bombs that we're all too dumb or irrational to see. They talk about humanity like they're not part of it, like by saying "The fact that more people use Instagram than Wolfram is proof that #humanityisdoomed #notgettinglaid." They talk like they've evolved beyond us mere mortals and our petty problems, and they only grace us with their presence because they're stuck with us. They should be discussing impenetrably deep concepts with beings of pure light and Mark Twain's disembodied brain. Instead, fate has trapped them in Virginia.JC29856 said:

Barack Obama spoke in New York to clients of Northern Trust Corp. for about $400,000, a person familiar with his appearance said. Last week, he reminisced about the White House for Carlyle Group LP, one of the world’s biggest private equity firms, according to two people who were there. Next week, he’ll give a keynote speech at investment bank Cantor Fitzgerald LP’s health-care conference.
Nothing is more evident than being kind enough to let Froman choose his cabinet a month before the 2008 election (you probably didnt read the emails either). He was and is very friendly and charitable towards his friends and financiers, good for him. I cant hold anything against someone feeding their family with speech money.
Remember that kid at school who always bragged about how smart he was, but never did any work? They're that kid. They want to acknowledge the problem without doing anything about it, to appear intelligent without being intelligent, because they equate dispassionate cynicism with genius. But what they truly are, almost invariably, are people who are unaffected by whatever news story they're declaring to be proof that Rome has fallen. They are above everyone else, but only in the sense that after pronouncing our species doomed, they can head to Starbucks instead of having to deal with the floodwaters rising around them..."

But almost everyone who likes to post that we're doomed, in reaction to everything from a shooting to the transgender military ban, tries to present themselves as dispassionate observers who are above the fray of daily life, like Dr. Manhattan with hashtags.CM189191 said:

Obama has picked private equity, hedge fund, venture capital and banking veterans to oversee his foundation, and an alumnus of Goldman Sachs Group Inc. to advise him on investments.
Northern Trust is a bank that specializes in wealth management for rich families and services for big funds. The event had gone unreported, but a program accessible on the firm’s website lists Obama alongside executives from Microsoft Corp., IBM and Michael Bloomberg, majority owner of Bloomberg LP.
Northern Trust, based in Chicago, gave Obama a discount on a $1.32 million loan for a mansion in that city in 2005, after he was elected to the Senate, the Washington Post reported. The rate was changed to account for an offer from another lender, a spokesman for Obama said three years later. Doug Holt, a spokesman for Northern Trust, wouldn’t comment for this story.
Several years after private equity firm Carlyle Group LP successfully pushed the White House to relax Environmental Protection Agency rules to the benefit of two Carlyle-owned oil refineries in Pennsylvania, former President Barack Obama, as part of a series of paid speeches, made a stop at its conference last week.
Back in 2013, Carlyle — working in tandem with Delta Air Lines, which also owned a refinery — met with Obama’s economic adviser Ronald Minsk and an EPA official, and signed a letter to the EPA with Delta and a refinery union leader as part of an effort to lobby the agency to relax its steadily rising requirements for mixing biofuels in petroleum-based fuels as part of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) program, Reuters reported in 2014.

And on a personal level, my HR department emailed open enrollment information and despite a national average of a 6% increase in premiums, I'm looking at 1.9% with no increase in vision or dental, and office visit and prescription co-pays. Prior to Obama, they all would have been in double digit % increases.

If anyone who has become ill or just hurt themselves EVER has thoughts like, "Hmm. I'm not sure if I have enough money to see the doctor/go to the ER/get a scan/etc", then nothing is hunky dory. I still can't believe Americans put up with a healthcare system that actually requires them to spend money for any required treatment. Even if they can get reimbursed later by their insurance company (and it sounds about as complicated as paperwork for the IRS btw, which is also shocking) ... How many millions don't have the money up front?? They already have enough to worry about without wondering how in the hell they're going to pay their hospital or doc's bill. It's just crazy.

I was just thinking this same thing. And with what people on here quote as their monthly insurance premiums, it's literally insane. $1600 or something for monthly insurance? Even if they can get reimbursed later by their insurance company (and it sounds about as complicated as paperwork for the IRS btw, which is also shocking) ... How many millions don't have the money up front?? They already have enough to worry about without wondering how in the hell they're going to pay their hospital or doc's bill. It's just crazy.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -
Right?! What the hell??? How are Americans not rioting in the streets, fighting this insane system like their lives depend on it, since they do???? I truly don't get it! And how any American, especially those who aren't rich, can think universal healthcare isn't the way to go is completely beyond me. I feel like the only logical explanation for that is that they're completely brainwashed. How else could they think a for-profit healthcare system is anywhere near okay, in any form?HughFreakingDillon said:
I was just thinking this same thing. And with what people on here quote as their monthly insurance premiums, it's literally insane. $1600 or something for monthly insurance? WTF???PJ_Soul said:If anyone who has become ill or just hurt themselves EVER has thoughts like, "Hmm. I'm not sure if I have enough money to see the doctor/go to the ER/get a scan/etc", then nothing is hunky dory. I still can't believe Americans put up with a healthcare system that actually requires them to spend money for any required treatment. I can't remember his name, but there is some right-wing, 21 year old dickweed who has been supporting Trump and rallying against Obamacare hard... and then he got in a really bad car accident, and it turned out that his insurance wouldn't cover it and he couldn't afford any of it himself, so he started a gofundme campaign so that strangers could pay his medical bills. When people called him out on this, he said that this wasn't at all hypocritical, and that he still is against ACA or any form of universal plan, because in his case the donors are choosing to pay for his healthcare rather than being forced to through taxes. He claimed to be mad at his insurance company but still 100% supports the system under which its allowed to do what it did.HughFreakingDillon said:"I want to pay for my healthcare, not yours! oh, wait! Yeah, especially since he is actually on his parents' insurance plan still because he can't afford his own, and apparently the only reason he was able to be on their plan at all was because of Obamacare.HughFreakingDillon said:

He submitted the medical bills to his auto insurance, and was denied.
Because the bills were covered under his worker's compensation.
Which brings up an interesting point: Single payer wouldn't just eliminate or streamline our traditional health insurance. It would also affect your auto insurance, and your employer's Work Comp coverage - likely bringing those rates down, or replacing these coverages altogether.0
