Hmm, if only there was a way to circumvent all these illegal bootlegs. Wonder if there's any reason Ten, Vs, and Vitalogy aren't being bootlegged...
    Ok seriously, reissues, do it.

What I find somewhat interesting is the bootlegs are colored vinyl, they could have made them black and really messed up things, at least you know what you are getting...

Because there are plenty of them out there already. No demand for cheap alternatives.

Who's putting it out? Some crime ring. There is huge money in counterfeiting. And just the money and equipment it takes to run a vinyl press (one of the biggest illegal manufacturers was recently raided in Germany, but there are many more), or the bribery it probably takes to get legit presses to make their illegal records in Europe tells us that the people behind these things aren't just music fans trying to help music fans, lol. They are likely large cirminal enterprises who do all sorts of illegal things, and only part of their crime rings involve illegal vinyl bootlegs.

And THAT'S why I'm against illegal bootlegs, and why everyone else should be too. We shouldn't feed crime rings with our money.

Apparently not illegal, Amazon has them listed.

That doesn't mean anything. They are still illegal bootlegs.

Apparently the copyright laws in Europe allow the bootlegs to be pressed on colored vinyl but would not allow copies to be made on black - since that would be an exact copy of the original.

I looked in the bin the other day at a record store here in town and they had a few more random bootlegs of pj. Some Chicago concert from back in the day with a yellow cover and some recording session unreleased early shit or something on another. Seems like more and more are popping up as vinyl becomes more and more popular

Yeah, almoast ended up with an overprised Bootleg of Lost Dogs from eBay, if it where not for this forum. Its probably just digital sound files copied on a coloured vinyl, and they are allowed to sell this shitt on Ebay\Amazon. Offcourse many of the sellers want to make the impression that this is Orignal stuff and write - SEALED -, this shows axactly what the seller trying to achieve feks - PEARL JAM _No Code (LP))) printed innersleeves SEALED -

I dont want to jump into the discussion if this is ok or not from the point of view of the law. But the Seller should Mark this Clearly. -This is a Bootleg- ... then i am a bit more ok with this becouse then im not buying it :). Atleast you are informed, im amazed that eBay\Amazon are ok with this ...

I dont like the new Remastered version of Vitalogy\VS either, the old copies on 1 vinyl sounds much better, with a present Analog sound. I wish they just could reissue all the albums just as they where, does not seem to happen. Seems like they believe the imporant thing is to add a load of stuff you would not need (posters\kasette\Remastered\lost tracks off Eddie taking a shit etc etc)

No matter if they are colored or some Amazon call center lady said so, if you sell copyrighted music on whatever format without the proper rights or permission, it is called pirating and illegal as fuck.

What if I burned copies of the studio albums on cdr and printed nice covers and sold those would that be legal? Why not? After all cdr's are different color than factory printed cds. Geez people.

Sort of. Laws can be very technical and laws vary from country to country. Some countries have extremely lax copyright laws (or no copyright laws). Thus you can create the product in those countries legally. Some countries don't have laws against importing the goods (only making them) thus they can import the bootlegs without breaking the law.

Copyright is a law made up by people. It's a philosophical construct. Does a country who doesn't believe in copyright any better than one that does? Have copyright laws gotten too overbearing in the past 20 years? Probably.

I would agree that in this case PJ is still alive and well so philosophical someone shouldn't be able to profit from their work. That being said just because a country doesn't believe in the ideals of US copyright, doesn't make it illegal for them. Not everything is illegal everywhere.

Show me a European country where producing counterfeit copies of official releases is legal.

I'd consider it to be De Facto Law in countries like Lithuania where they don't give a crap, don't enforce it, and the application of the law is there is no law.
