Am I an idiot for using my Pono?

mwplummwplum Posts: 1,542
I bought it with the intention of listening to it. In my car, with my home stereo, and with some great headphones (went out and specifically bought some Sennheiser Momentums last May). Now that it's here, (and given the fact that I have $80,000 in student loan debt)...I'm tempted to sell it, but fuck it, I'm opening it tonight, and am trying to now bit rate upgrade the quality of my collection (and trying to understand what bit-rate is, etc...).

Dimi, or others, could you please point me in the direction of where I can get some quality FLAC downloads?

Thanks,
Matt

They're not going for that much. Not like it's going to make even a scratch in $80,000 of student loans, lol. Let's say that you would never make more than maybe $600 profit if you sold it... isn't at least a few years of high quality music enjoyment worth a lot more than that? It is to me (I've spent more than that on vinyl in a single month before). So I think you made a good decision. :)

If I'd bought one I'd be using it too.

  • You can get FLAC and hi-rez files at http://www.hdtracks.com/
  • You can get better rate of returns in the stock market.

I understand the hesitation/slight buyer's remorse, but it's something that was paid for month's ago. Time to enjoy!

Thanks everyone! It sounds awesome! I actually had to go into work at 3:30 am this morning to finish a project, and armed with this awesome sounding Pono, I didn't mind at all putting in the extra work. I synced it up last night, and with 28 PJ albums/boots, the time just flew by! It was actually really enjoyable.

About 11 years ago, I miraculously walked out of the hospital after a sudden, very near death experience. (Medical miracles and all.) It was at that moment that I decided that things are meant to be used. Sitting on a shelf or stowed away in a box was just not going to kick it.

Use it. Enjoy it! Don't beat yourself up about it.
