My Bloody Valentine is the loudest I've ever heard and no one else comes close. They hand out earplugs to everyone in the audience haha.

By far the loudest concert out hundreds I've seen has to be ACDC the Black Ice Tour 2009 in DC. I took my daughter who wanted to see them along with "friend" from her school. I heard how loud their shows were on that tour and for first time I bought ear plugs and it STILL was loud.

However, the show that gave some damage to my ears has to be Def Lepperd the Hysteria Tour. I was front row right side directly in front of a bank of low speaker/amplifiers. The sound was going directly in my ears after 4 songs I had to leave, found some seats in the stands. I didn't mind it was the second or third time seeing that tour. To this day I don't hear all that well out of my right ear.

There's a band called Sleigh Bells and I don't know if I'd have eardrums left if I hadn't worn earplugs at that show! Foo Fighters is another loud one, especially front row at a small club like I saw them earlier in the year. Also at Made In America I was 2nd to the rail and earplugs were 100% necessary, which makes sense since they need to project the sound to however many thousands of other people were out there. The Who in 2008 surprised me too, despite getting up there in age, they turn that shit to 11!

Soundgarden in Prudential Center, Newark, NJ. They walked off stage for the encore letting their guitars reverb against their amps...and din't turn them off for like 10 minutes... My ears rang for several days after and really woke me up to the dangers.

YES. This was pre-earplug days for me and oh boy, I was dying the next day.

Also, Mike Watt & Friends at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC. This was the show that made me get earplugs. I think my ears were ringing for a few days, and that was not fun. Show was great though :D

Dinosaur jnr.... very closely followed by JET.

When I saw this title the first band I thought of was absolutely Dinosaur Jr! Coolest thing though was, I think this was '92ish?, but they sold the first ear plug travel containers I'd ever seen. Little bright green with Dinosaur Jr written in purple. That was the beginning of me always always having ear plugs with me.

Fast forward a zillion years, and post-having kids, and my husband and I went to see Bad Brains (his favorite band ever). Don't know what I was thinking but thought I didn't need earplugs. Holy crap was that show LOUD! I definitely, for the first time ever had ringing ears for a couple of days. Which is a feat, because I've been to an outrageous number of shows. But Dinosaur Jr taught me to always have earplugs! ;)

There have been other crazy loud shows, where your internal organs feel like they're going to vibrate and then spontaneously combust... but I can't think of any of those bands right now.

Def Dinosaur Jr. in a club setting.
J Mascis has three full stacks on stage. total overkill. only show that I make sure I wear earplugs

    oh yeah and Jucifer too.
just a wall of amps behind the guitarist... literally.

edit: actually it was Atari Teenage Riot opening for Beck.
I was right by the PA and my right ear suffered serious damage.

loudest band this year: Black Angels at the Grey Eagle
and the Cincinnati PJ fans :))
