Pearl Jam Pono Player

I'm awaiting one. After much thought, I'm willing to sell it.

I saw one recently sell on here for $750. I'd sell mine for $700 (shipped with insurance and tracking number a day or two after I receive it).

    You can't win sometimes.

I offered the PONO at the lowest price I would part with it for- largely because this community is fickle sometimes: blasting some for selling their stuff... lauding others for selling theirs.

I am fully aware that these players are going to sell for more than $700. The price I set was a conscious one that I feel is fair given everything. And... the interest to this moment reflects that.

    Have a nice day.

    Sorry, you misunderstood my point.
I've said all along that I believe many, if not most, of these PONOs were bought on speculation (or for "flipping", to use the vernacular).
$400. is a lot of dough for many people to tie up in an investment for half a year and my guess is that many buyers are chomping at the bit to get their investment back plus a tidy profit ($300. is QUITE tidy).
I think that come late December (Christmas shopping for the family time) investors are going to be stoked to get their $400. back plus a nice $100. profit.
    Just my $.02.

I am okay with you selling the Pono and okay with your profit. Do i wish it was cheaper? Hell yeah. Would I buy it today if I had the money? Hell yeah. I wish I had the money.

    You may be right.
In today's economy, an investment's growth of 10% in six months is incredible!
Maybe potential PONO buyers should cap the price at a generous $450.
After all, it is the buyer that sets the market...

  • These still haven't arrived? Have shipping notices gone out?

I just don't see them lasting, more of a novelty. Probably go the way of the mini disc and hddvd. I just can't see enough people spending that much money on them. Especially with everyone downloading music for free, i know its supposedly better quality but is it $20 an album better than flac etc? They'll be lucky to maintain a niche market of rich people.

I tend to agree with that as well.
Interesting that people here are selling their PONOs before they've even received them let alone HEARD them.
So far, reported offers to sell here have been $750., $700. and $675.

    ^HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Great line!!!

If/when these things plummet into the abyss at say $200, then I might pick one up as a novelty. I thought these were a ridiculous purchase from the beginning. The rarity of them is what intrigues me, not the "new sound quality".

    Congrats with your sale OP!!!

These pono players look pretty cool, I'm thinking 500 would be a fare price for the forum. I think people are starting to price things too high on the forum recently. This used to be a place where you could buy things for your fellow fans at decent prices, not ebay prices. I think too many people are looking at pearl jam goods now as a way to make money and I don't think this forum is for that. I think it's intended for like minded fellow fans to help each other out. And I know that's actively happening here but I just worry about it staying that way and not evolving into a flippers den. What's really scary is you really don't know who the flippers are when it comes to the buyers. Hope everyone out there gets what they want and in return help others out as well.

I don't consider this flipping at all, selling the Denver poster not even a week after the show for three times the price. That's the definition of flipping.

You guys are focusing your attention in the wrong place.

  • It's sold.

And people are delusional or in denial if they think this item will depreciate.

If they truly think so, then they do so with the understanding that this high profile item would be the very first PJ item to do so outside of the Vancouver 2009 poster (which I have framed... sheesh).

Two dollar stickers sell for $20. Rare Falla Sheep sell for $100. Jerseys that look like Red Wing jerseys with PJ embroidered on them sell for $300.

I have an opinion too: I think a lot of the negativity in this thread stems from some form of envy.

    Have a nice day.

Flipping is a term used primarily in the United States to describe purchasing a revenue-generating asset and quickly reselling (or "flipping") it for profit. Though flipping can apply to any asset, the term is most often applied to real estate and initial public offerings (IPOs).

Pretty much the definition of flipping. People haven't even got them.

I collect records and posters, mostly PJ, cause I enjoy it. I don't want to sound like an ass or disparage those who are doing this, but if ppl are buying PJ stuff to flip and make $50-$100 a sale, I would suggest that after all the work that goes into buying the item, selling and mailing the item, that they are probably not valuing their time enough.

To me... Everyone is entitled to buy one of an item and do it with it as they choose. Keep it, trade it, sell it... Who cares?

But I do have a problem with buying multiples just to sell days later. Buy one to do with as you please and leave the rest for your fellow fans.

The fact that he hasn't received it is completely irrelevant. These sold out in (I believe) March. That means the OP has been out of pocket that cash for like 6+ months. Circumstances change, and in my opinion, that's definitely not "flipping".

Also, have you seen the wood cigar-like packaging on these things? It's unreal, and (now after seeing the packaging, which is arguably the best for a PJ item ever) I honestly wouldn't be surprised if these start going for $2500 or more within the next year.

NOT if Pearl Jam fans refuse to pay that crazy amount.
A profit of $50. -$100. to the seller of a PONO is more than generous of a buyer to give.
If members of the Pearl Jam family, who are constantly bemoaning in these forums the out of control gouging of each other, simply refuse to pay more than $450. - $500. for these PONO players than THAT will become the price.
This may be the perfect time for a sea change.

Hope you are right, as that may be true with some members selling on this forum, but that will not be the case on that auction site...And it seem more and more people use the buying and sellings of that auction site to gauge the values of their merchandise...

....In a perfect world. In a world like that I would own a Benaroya, it would be great! But at the same time, I don't expect someone to come on here, and sell me a Benny for $300, when they could get $1500 (or more) for it on ebay. It would be great if 10C members would sell it for a bit less than market value, but it seems a bit entitled to think that people will sell things for far less, just because we like the same music.

Lol, sounds like you have one to flip, no way they'll be $2500.
This is not directed to OP in anyway but not having received something before selling is totally relevant in flipping. Do you think real estate flippers live in a house before they sell it? Getting something and using it then deciding you want to sell it is different than selling something before you get it.
Again this is not about OP it sounds like life happened and he needed the money, fair enough. I'm talking about the definition of flipping.
I'm not saying that everyone that bought these
Intended to flip them but i bet a lot did.
