Why does the NFL cancel a game because of to much snow in buffalo of alll places? It's fucking football people. And I don't want to hear any nonsense about fans travelling safely. Horseshit. Play the damn game.

I posted this in the Weather thread:

Just saw this on the msn website:
"The Buffalo Bills have lost two of their star running backs to injuries in recent weeks, but what the squad could really use right about now is a few good snow shovelers.

The team put out a tweet on Wednesday for help clearing Ralph Wilson Stadium following the devastating storm that pummeled the Buffalo region with up to 6 feet of lake effect snow. The Bills are offering $10 per hour and game tickets to willing and able Buffalonians.

"We can't have too many people helping. We won't be turning anyone away," Vice President of Operations Andy Major said through the Bills' official Twitter account.

The organization claims it has enough snow to fill its fieldhouse eight times over. The stadium is located on 197 acres in Orchard Park, New York. Its parking facility has room for 10,000 cars, 300 buses, and 250 campers, according to the Bills' website.

Major said the team will run triple shifts around the clock to make sure the stadium is ready for Sunday's game against the New York Jets. The NFL will determine a contingency plan if Ralph Wilson Stadium is not ready, the Bills tweeted."

I guess you could fly up there, earn some money, help them out, and see the game.

In Germany, you even get money back when you are at a club. You pay like 0,50 or a Euro more for your drink and then get the money back when you return the container. This also goes for festivals. I still have the urge to cling on to my bottle or glass over here lol I also have been collecting bottles or glasses at clubs way back then and sometimes went home with more money than I came with. (This was very very rare though, doesn't feel good :P )
In my hometown, there is even a project where people made a special basket to attach to public waste buckets where people can throw their bottles in so the people who "dive" for the bottles and cans don't have to go through the garbage. It definitely encourages recycling, and I like that a lot. We did have it in East German times as well. We got money for old paper, bottles and plastics I think too.
Cav was surprised of how clean the venues looked in Berlin after the show, because people brought their containers back. There are festivals where people get a garbage bag at the entrance with their ticket and get 5 Euros when they bring it back full. Many a times people who spent all their money at the festival bought their ticket home by collecting garbage on site.

I like that idea...the Gorge is so trashed after a show, it's like "there ARE trash and recycling cans everywhere". Also really sad in some cities where they try to encourage recycling, and people just ignore it and you see the trash can is overflowing with bottles and cans and the recycling bin is pretty much empty.

it's crazy here...we recycle/compost food too, so you go to a festival and there is a bin for cans/bottles, one for food/paper napkins/paper plates, and one bin for trash.
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

I actually just heard a logical reason why it should be cancelled. The teams can't practice. That I can actually understand.

So those that live in these participating states, do they tack on an additional $0.05 cents for a deposit? Wonder why all the state's don't participate? Whether it's water, pop, juice, booze......?

    The short answer is yes.

I always buy whatever water/soda/beer I need here in Seattle before I go to Oregon, then before we leave, I turn it in for the cash. Supposedly, it's to encourage people to recycle.
When I lived in Cali, the apartment's lawn people stole all the bottles out of our recycling bin after mowing the lawn, dug thru the dumpster too.
    "Stole"? Really?
There are bottle/can collectors here too. Most people in houses or store fronts/warehouses put the returnable stuff in a separate bag so they can just take it and move on without going through your whole garbage pile. In buildings they usually help the super sorting the recycles so they keep the returnable stuff. Most places have a limit to how much they will let one person return in a day, so they can't even return their entire haul in one shot.
If it's in a recycling bin outside a building I definitely wouldn't call it stealing since the people who put them there basically chucked them out (to be recycled for no deposit return). In essence, the people going into recycling bins and taking the bottles and cans are preventing the complete waste of the deposit money. If they didn't take them it is literally like throwing money in the garbage (and then saying that a person who found the money in the garbage stole it).

It is pretty stupid. They have shitoads of money - why not just clear the feild, and whoever can make it makes it? Surely things will be somewhat back to normal by Sunday.... if the whole city isn't flooded, that is.

How cold does it have to be outside for a dog to not want to stick its head out the window of a moving car?

Depends on the dog. My wolf dogs used to drive me nuts in the winter!! It'd be -10 degrees, and we'd be rolling down the interstate at 40-50 MPH ( cleared roads, mind you) and they'd want to be hanging out the damned window!! But the Heeler?? Wanted no part if that!

Yeah I think the temps are supposed to rise enough this weekend to melt it. I saw something on tv saying it will be the equivalent to 7 or 8 inches of rain? If that's accurate it will be a nightmare.
Good news is I have to work Sunday and will now be able to watch the Bills Monday night! I'm a silver lining kind of guy!

we got a recycling credit on our bill...if there was no recyclables in there, we didn't get the credit.
