Are you a wee bit disappointed in the repetition of songs and overall set lists? I know I am....not to sound like a whiny complainer, but even my husband commented on it and he's only a "minor" fan....

Repeats:

Alive: H, M1, M2
Even Flow: H, M1, M2
Better Man: H, M1, M2
Small Town: H, M1, M2
Why Go: H, M1, M2
Garden: H, M2
Given to Fly: M1, M2
Do the Evolution: H, M1, M2
Once, M1, M2
Corduroy, M1, M2

I thought last night's show was a bit lackluster overall. I thought they'd mix it up, knowing that A LOT of people would go to both Mansfield shows......
8/7/92, 4/12/94,10/2/96,9/15/98, 8/29/00,8/30/00,10/28/00,4/8/03,4/29/03, 7/2/03, 7/3/03, 7/11/03, 9/28/04, 9/29/04, 5/25/06, 6/27/08, 6/28/08, 6/30/08, 5/20/10, 9/7/11, 10/15/13, 10/16/13, 10/25/13, 12/6/13, 4/8/16, 9/2/18, 9/4/18, 5/6/22, 5/7/22

8 songs in 2 or 3 nights repeated? Thats the best ratio from any band in the world by a big margin.. PJ have never changed up the setlist more than this tour. What do people want PJ not to repeat a single song each night?

    To answer question:

Not one bit disappointed, just the opposite... personally this was my 16th show and both mansfield(wasnt @ Hart) are very high on my list of best shows I've been to.

I don't see many people, if any, agreeing with you that the show(s) were lackluster, but to each their own.

    Alive: H, M1, M2
    Even Flow: H, M1, M2
    Better Man: H, M1, M2
    Small Town: H, M2
    Why Go: H, M2
    Garden: H, M2
    Given to Fly: M1, M2
    Do the Evolution: M1, M2

And your list of songs are singalongs that most fans want to be played and which adds to overall 'charge' of the crowd.

exactly ... you've listed 8 songs ... 8 .... of 25 or so ... less than 1/3 of the set ... and of that, only 3 were played all three nights .... 3!!!

If you couldn't find excitement in each show and realize each had its own distinct vibe and feel ... then, indeed, you need to stop going to multiple shows per tour.

Not really - yes, many/most bands do not change their set at all from night to noght, but other bands play a completely different show each night and go 3-4 shows without repeats.

Just saying, not complaining. I personally want to see DTE at every show it is such a rocker, and when Even Flow RIPS SHIT UP like it did last night how can you complain?

but for a band that has been around for as long as they have they have the most vareity over a tour I would think. sure they play betterman and even flow most nights but they played over 200 songs in a mini tour... nothing to complin about there.

    betterman
    yellow ledbetter
    jeremy
    last kiss
    evenflow

those are all GREAT songs, but most don't rock, and most are non hardcore fan's style.

I really liked the way they settled on a small group of songs to repeat. I mean, DTE, Why Go and GTF are 3 of my favorites and are good hard driving songs to get the crowd going.

  • The only thing I'm pissed off about is how Eddie promised an endurance test on Saturday and then yesterday he said they're gonna play until they got kicked out... and that was 11:05 pm. So that was quite annoying, and I could've used less repeats, but I still had an amazing time at both shows!

I don't think Jeremy and Last Kiss are staples. I went to 5 shows and only saw those once. Even Yellow Ledbetter, they aren't closing with that as much as they used to. Why Go and Corduroy have definitely been staples though.

Not to come off like a complete a-hole, but I am getting kind of tired of the people who go to multiple shows complaining about hearing repeats. I mean, a large, large majority of people don't get to go to multiple shows - they only see one, or two, a tour. When I went to MSG, of course I wanted to hear a lot of obscure songs - I was praying for Crown Of Thorns, In My Tree, & Tremor Christ - but I also would have been upset if I didn't get to hear Betterman, Alive, Do The Evolution, etc. Basically, when 90%+ people in attendence are only going to one or two shows in a tour, why not repeat the songs that everyone wants to hear but those who travel around to see them? I think it's just being kind of selfish, but that's just me.

I completely agree with repeating songs in two night stands - but I think the band did a respectable job this year - Do The Evolution, Given To Fly, & Why Go were all songs that I would love to hear both nights, had I went. I agree with All Night, Miracles, and Alive (sort-of...I would never get tired of hearing it live), though.

I mean, after seeing the stage bounce and the crowd drowning out Eddie during Corduroy, Betterman, Given To Fly, AND Do The Evolution at MSG2...I don't see why they wouldn't repeat these songs from night to night.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only big bands I've seen do that are Grateful Dead, Phish, & Widespread Panic - plus a couple more obscure jam bands. The Dead are my second favorite band, and you'd still find at least a song or two repeated from night to night unless it was a rare occasion.

We're lucky with what we have. I couldn't ask for more from the band. With an overwhelming majority of current artists playing the same setlist every night (I think DMB is one of the only remaining big bands to change the setlist), I can't see how anyone can complain.

I went to Hartford and both Mansfield shows. My only complaint (and I think this is something only a Pearl Jam fan could complain about) is that they didn't play a little longer when the band intended to do so but were held up by the curfew. But the variety to me wasn't the problem. I have to say that of the three, Hartford was the best. That was a great rarities show- Can't Keep, Brain of J, In Hiding, God's Dice, Blood, FUCKING UP!. All great performances. It might have helped that I was third row at Hartford and was back in section 4 and 8 respectively for both Mansfield shows. But I was fully enthralled.

I think we have to understand that even with the many thousands of people who post on this board, the percentage of us who attended the shows were is quite small. Most people only go to one show and they want to hear Alive, E-Flow, Black, Daughter, Jeremy, etc. So what? Are these bad songs? If you've ever seen basically any group that is not PJ you'll see that most bands change their setlists only slightly. I saw Tom Petty with Pearl Jam in '06 in Denver and I'd seen him previously at Mansfield. He plays the same setlist everynight and even says alot of the same lines when talking to the audience. Don't get me wrong, I love Petty's music, but for a guy with such a hugh catologue to ignore entire albums, is just nuts.

Pearl Jam never dissapoints. If they were like most other bands playing the same greatest hit show everynight, why would we all go to so many damn concerts?

I wasn't saying that they were staples. Just that if they were I'd be irritated. Also, I am glad Yellow Ledbetter is becoming less frequent. I like it that way.

    aren't repeats...

Take Even Flow... MSG 1 and MSG 2... Two completely different versions as far as Mike's solos go... Night 1, behind the head was in the Hendrix vein while night two's solo was more influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughn... At least that is what I was hearing...

Then in Hartford, Even Flow again rocked and I'm damn glad they played it as it was my son's 1st PJ show and he wanted to hear it soooo bad, because he plays it on Guitar Hero... Yeah, cheesy, but you know what, he discovered a great band on Friday night in Hartford and now he's nagging me for the boot, so I've won him over...

Yeah, I wished that they played longer. I had no problems with the repeats- and most of the repeats were to pump up the crowd. The band looked a bit tired and these songs help them keep going. The crowd keeps them going. Hartford, when you thought that they were done, they did another- and then another-

For me, they were all great.

Are you a wee bit disappointed in the repetition of songs and overall set lists? I know I am....not to sound like a whiny complainer, but even my husband commented on it and he's only a "minor" fan....

    Repeats:

    Alive: H, M1, M2
    Even Flow: H, M1, M2
    Better Man: H, M1, M2
    Small Town: H, M1, M2
    Why Go: H, M1, M2
    Garden: H, M2
    Given to Fly: M1, M2
    Do the Evolution: H, M1, M2

I thought last night's show was a bit lackluster overall. I thought they'd mix it up, knowing that A LOT of people would go to both Mansfield shows......

Are you insane?? You got to see Pearl Jam 3 times in a matter of days...i come from Ireland and live in New Zealand now with my wife. We very rarely get ANY good bands down here and we have to fly to see PJ every 4 years or so in Australia (which is a 3 and half hour flight away, which includes getting a Visa) DID YOU READ THAT?? EVERY 4 YEARS. THATS HOW OFTEN WE GET TO SEE OUR FAVOURITE BAND.

SO HERES WHAT YOU DO....EITHER DONT GO TO ANOTHER SHOW...OR DO GO, AND BE VERY F$£KING THANKFUL THAT YOUR IN A ROOM WITH THE GREATEST BAND IN THE WORLD AND THE GREATEST FANS IN THE WORLD, RELAX AND ENJOY WHATEVER THE SHOW BRINGS!!

    I come in peace!! xx

i was at hartford and M1 and heck i didn't even notice. That being said if only 7 songs were repeated of the 28/25 songs played at the two shows respectively, that is not too bad: actually big deal....when was the last time a band, for example any one of the following: Van Halen, Kiss, Stones, the cult, springsteen or insert band name here____________ repeated only 7 songs, let alone play 25 or 28...think back to Kiss Alive 2: 15 songs!
