Is the GA pit becoming lame?

Everyone enjoys shows differently, I don't have to jump to have a good time nor can I really jump without potentially hurting my self, I still enjoy the shows very much and I'm vocally into it and as much physically as I can be

Big difference too in europe v america is they sell they entire floor as ga in europe, as opposed to just 1/3rd of the floor as a pit in the us. Europe also isnt tenclub only, they sell those tix on ticketmaster AND they way oversell it and dont really ,momitor who goes down there. Ill take the "tame" or "lame" us ga style any day over the sardines for europe.

I think there is definitely a difference between European crowds and US crowds. Cannot say anything about Southern America, but I guess it even tops Europe. GA in America to me has always been a little more tame. And I actually like that. There is room to dance and jump. You don't feel like a sardine in a can full of sweat. 8th row in the pit in America is awesome, in Europe it can feel like a marathon physically (which is pretty awesome too, but exhausting). 8th row in the pit in Europa can be a mess and make you want to go farther away. I think it has to do with the age of the audience. To me it always seemed like the European audience is a little younger, maybe that is why the pit is a bit more agitated physically. Cool thing about the pit is, if you don't like it at one spot, you can move.

Yeah, the pit can still be good in Europe. By the time State of Love and Trust was played in Leeds I was physically beat! I had a great time though!

At the US shows I've witnessed from up in the Reserved seats, the smartphone is the disconnect. Videotaping 70% of the show and not being present kinda keeps one from being super rowdy. It's not just at concerts, the phone has it's claws in the general population everywhere, any city street, airport, or subway. Just my opinion, but a lot of y'all are a bunch a effin zombies.

The Leeds UK GA for me (right in the center 4 rows back) was a marathon of Push Me, Pull Me, during anything mildly uptempo, a constant battle to stay grounded and make sure the missus wasn't getting overwhelmed and I was spent at the end, happy, but spent. The 28 year old me would have dealt with it a lot better than the 48 year old me, for sure, but I endured. It surely wasn't lame, but I could have dealt with a click or two less enthusiasm, or doucheyness.

AND there were just as many phones in the way!

I’m seeing a trend that frankly sucks at PJ shows in the US. People with GA pit tickets that don’t want to get even the slightest bit rowdy during the show. Now I’m not saying we go Full Metal Ahole but let’s dance, jump around at least attempt to make take it up a step from a Gordon Lightfoot show. I know there are a few people usually towards the middle of the pit that get going but man I’m getting looks like I’m insane for doing a little jumping during Porch, DTE, Lukin… Please dudes these are rockers and I’m glad you brought your 9 year old to their first show but step back 10 feet in the pit and let some people get down.

I had the rail for Cincy and I can assure you that I didn't stop jumping the entire show. Just about every song other than parachutes and man of the hour and songs like that I spent half the time off the ground. I know for sure also that the guys around me (there were about 5 of us in a row that were Nuts!! I agree with you. It's a concert and we should be all out enjoying it.
I was on the rail in Cincinnati. I danced, sang, jumped and bounced for 3 hours and 15 minutes straight. I was so exhausted by the time we got home 4 hours later that I could barely walk. I gave it everything I had.

I didn't watch the concert from my phone or camera. My husband took some pictures (not many at all) with our camera, but we both watched and enjoyed. We agree. The phones and social media have kept people from being here now.

Put the damned phone down and enjoy the show!

Please elaborate on this "trend". What shows were you at and what shows are you comparing this to? I've been in the pit for both Europe and US shows recently, Europe tends to be more rowdy but also more unsafe. US is less rough which I appreciate, but doesn't mean that people aren't enjoying the show. Less jumping in US than in Europe, but that doesn't stop me, and I haven't gotten any weird looks. In fact others often join in! I can't imagine that you mean that the energy was better back when it was all seats. I'm curious to understand your point of view.

My only disappointment with GA in the US is sometimes the pit isn't full, like in St. Louis. It's kind of a bummer to see empty floor at a PJ concert.

Yes, you did. Awesome! We weren't so front and center. We were right in front of the speakers and pipe and drape thing, but Eddie did come over and belt out a good chunk of Porch for us right in front of me. :sigh: It was delightful.

I have never understood y people are concerned about how others act at a concert, I go to have a good time and enjoy the music, not to judge how other are enjoying their concert experience, as long as they aren't bothering me or hurting someone, I couldn't really care less how oths act at a show, that's not my concern.

I'm always jumpin' and singin', regardless which section. Love it in the GA. I always make sure I'm not pissin' anyone off. Move around a bit and find a group havin' a good time and avoid the rock cops. I wish I could bring in a real camera though. Camera phones suck ass. I take like three quick pics with that then put it away.

My wife did not feel super safe for our one UK GA. I rode it out, but I'm hardly a teenager.

I've seen videos from South America, and those fuckers are nuts.

I've also witnessed some pretty selfish behavior at US festivals, where groups of people try to snake their way past you when there's already no room. One of them has usually got a phone to their ear and they're looking around like they're lost... I usually stand my ground and ask them what sort of system they've got worked out, because everyone who's standing right where you're trying to get by, was under the impression that we were as close as we were gonna get. Once the music gets going, there are surfers, but very little shoving and pushing.

The US PJ GA that I've seen are WAY more respectful, except for that crazy chick in LA.

I bring my camera wherever I go, but I don't shoot video, and it's not a phone.

    I don't think it's lame...it's the best place to see a show.

What kind of camera though? I've got a DSLR Canon. I don't think I'd get away with that.
    I don't shoot video either.

We're getting older man - I mean, the band is coming out and sitting on chairs for 3-4 songs after the main set.

I agree with you a little there

I think this isn't just a PJ issue. It's life in general. People are living life through a 2x3 inch screen instead of experiencing every wonderful thing around them!

After the show I asked people around me if they could send me pics because I had only 2 or 3 for the whole show. That said, it was the greatest experience ever...because I lived it and didn't film it.

Don't get the picture taking. Can get great pics off this site. And we all know what band looks like. Enjoy the show. Live life in the moment. All about now.

I'm a photographer. I can take a decent photo. Not to say I don't see a few good ones on here, but if I could take a good, full size res. photo I'd put it on my wall, frame it. It would be MY photo. And blown up it would be sharp, not fuzzy. Trust me I enjoy the show. I don't shoot all night. A few shots, a couple of minutes and I'm done. Back to the show. But alas....
