This world needs more passion and if the result is a few ruffled feathers so be it. With real passion comes the type of banter that Byrnzie was known for.kce8 said:
Over all I just can agree with PJ_Soul. While living the passion for something you have to ensure to find the right words and behavior.

Ahem...
I'm treading SUPER lightly, as you can see my avatar. This is all I'm going to say about this topic.
from the most racist country on the planet...
The institutionalized racism that ALL people of color face in the Unites States DAILY is not the same as your grandpappys overt shit or the banana throwing European brand. Take a drive through parts of Baltimore or Detroit or Los Angeles and look at it yourself.
If racism bothers you so much Beezie, (judging by just the last 250 of your 20k+ posts, everything does...) then I challenge you to actually DO something about it. Instead of starting and then contributing to a number of inflammatory and generally unhelpful discussions about racism or war (on the Pearl Jam website ?? of all places...), then copying other peoples opinions from the web for days, why don't you actually formulate your own original viewpoint and then work toward change?
I don't know you at all, but it seems to me like you thoroughly enjoy the sound of yourself typing...what if you refocused that energy toward something positive?
So Beez, a year in, what are your thoughts on Lightning Bolt?
an hour later
Commenting on the OP and not the topic was out of line and against the rules...my bad.
from Byrnzie
Thanks. But I think you're wasting your time responding intelligently to the shit bomb. Looks like an obvious case of trolling to me.
Obviously I would love to tell the shit bomb what I really think of his trolling nonsense, but again, I'd be accused of offending or belittling him if I did.
Just my opinion, but he wasn't "provoked" or personally "attacked", and hardly the beacon of free speech or martyr that some of you all are making him out to be.

I find it interesting that people only see the side of Byrnzie that they want to, disregarding his lack of respect for all having differing opinions. Let's get real here. He may be smart, but in dealing with others who disagree with him, he lacks the respect to carry on a decent debate. All of you caring to not see that fact are fooling yourselves.
I said this in another thread a couple months ago. If you can't treat others with respect, no matter what solid knowledge you have, you instantly lack credibility due to that lack of respect, at least with me. To each his own, but mutual respect is big in my book.
That said, I disagree with permabans.0 -
Pushing the envelope naturally, no problem with it. Doing it for the sake of doing it, not so much a fan. I don't claim to know anyone's motives behind what they post; I can only go by the words and "tone" behind them.callen said:
Isn't pushing the envelope good? Sometimes want to puke when people start the love fest and don't want to hurt feelings to stay popular. Fk that. We talk about death penalty, abortion, gun control religion. Israel. All heated topics. Sure we all want to "scream at the top of our lungs" and it's okay. It's the moving train.rr165892 said:
Lets keep it real Byrnzie pushed the envelope on many issues with many people.I don't agree with the Ban but I understand the background of why it was implemented. To Hedo's point ! Kat and Sea have been IMO very open to letting these conversations flow naturally.I think the leash for many of us has been plenty long.I hope that continues.hedonist said:

It is our board. We pay for this board. If we don't spend our money here, there is no board.hedonist said:I don't know if it's lazy as I have no idea what went on behind the scenes, but I sure wish they'd be temporary/timed.
Not my board though, just riding it.
Not to battle, as I respect you. But as gimme posted about people beyond their avatars, I apply that to the mods as well. Actually, I don't really know Sea but my interactions with Kat over the last 15 years have shown a decent, thoughtful (and diplomatic when needed
) person.
As I said, I'm not privy to whatever preceded this.
Always enjoyed the various views and people and what I have learned and continue to.
So, hope the show can go on.
It's not a popularity contest. Go to the porch and you can witness that behavior sometimes with cruel results at other members expense.
Byrnzie didn't care of your feelings. Admirable quality.
Like it or not, posting here comes with guidelines. It can't be THAT difficult to be passionate and civil at the same time.
(also, popularity is overrated; I'd say most on this train are similarly-minded)
...and "love fest"
Life isn't black and white, thank god.

Who you asking? Because there are many that can answer "absolutely".callen said:Did he ever personally attack you?
Again, I've no problem with the occasional collusion. And I do wish he was still here as if I didn't feel like having the collision I could simply ignore him. But to pretend he never attacked people is pretty crazy. We all do from time to time, and he was certainly above the average. Now, he also took it more than normal as well.
I am not a fan of bannings at all. Especially permanent ones.hippiemom = goodness0 -
We have all butted heads with each other. Byrnzie more so than others. But that comes with debate. Like it or not. Nobody is making byrnzie out to be a martyr. He was also subject to trolling and "personal attacks."
I think the permanent bans need to be banned. Give the guy 6 months, a year. He is still a paying customer. Unless there are threats being made or harassment, there's no need for permabans.0 -
PJ_Soul, if all you got out of Byrnzie's comments was that he, like "a lot of people", is "against Israel" (instead of the litany of reasons why he felt the way he did), I'm guessing you didn't read a word he said or shared (but I'm not sure this is your fault). Unfortunately, this was something I did my best to suggest to Byrnzie to no real avail: that when you beat people into submission in a debate, you risk losing their attention and your own credibility in their eyes, and that can stifle the discussion of the cause you're trying to promote. As someone else said here, it's a lesson we can all learn from what's happened here on respectful debate and discussion, even in spite of disagreements.
I have tons of respect for the things that Byrnzie had to say, and while I disagree with how he said it, I understand the frustration he had. When you pick a cause that so frequently falls upon deaf ears, it is infuriatingly hard not to just want to shake someone and tell them to wake up. His visible aggression here I would guess to be a direct byproduct of that.'05 - TO, '06 - TO 1, '08 - NYC 1 & 2, '09 - TO, Chi 1 & 2, '10 - Buffalo, NYC 1 & 2, '11 - TO 1 & 2, Hamilton, '13 - Buffalo, Brooklyn 1 & 2, '15 - Global Citizen, '16 - TO 1 & 2, Chi 2

Not gonna speak for anyone else but Byrnzie absolutely attacked me on occasion. Sometimes I fired back and sometimes I ignored him, but recently I just laughed at how pathetic the constant internet attacks on a rock band's message board were. Byrnzie brought this ban on himself over a long period of time.
That said...he'll be back.___________________________________________
