think of it this way, if they dont end with it, the show would be 1 song shorter, and you would miss a great mike solo...

Don't they get bored ending with Yellow Ledbetter??
I'm not a huge fan of the song live (nothing matches the original studio version) but it truly is Mike's song...it's nice to just see him up there, Jeff chillling in the back and Stone simply strumming the acoustic...it's really just a great finisher, and this is coming from someone who skips it on bootlegs...but while there, it's special.
I have been disappointed with this tour because they have ended with YL almost every show. Maybe they reached the point in their careers that they decided "fuck it, we've been doing this for almost 16 years, its hard coming up with a different closer every night."
Oh well. I suppose I'll get over it, it just makes me want to buy all the boots even less.
In the scope of the non-hardcore fan, YL is probably one of the biggest known PJ songs. I can't remember all the times I've been in a conversation with a slight fan and they always bring up YL as their favorite. I think the band is aware of this appeal, and play it as much as they can.

I originally thought it was boring to end each show with YL but something weird happened in Albany. When they ended it with Alive, i was left with a feeling that the show just stopped not wrapped up. I guess after getting used to it you dont miss it until it is gone. The song gives the show closure and you officially know it is over for the night.
Sometimes "Majority" just means all of the Fools are in Agreement.
Speaking as a performer, sometimes it's comforting to know that no matter what happens during a show, you know that you're going to wrap it up in the same way you always have. The beginning could suck, you might have screwed up this, this and that, but you know how you're going to bring it home. I think that's why they end with YL. It's a finale of sorts and, oh, I don't mind it at all.
We're still making records for people who listen to it all the way through, eyes closed, in that space.
A question like this has been floating in my head for a bit. After the 2 Toronto shows, and the repeats between the nights, I got thinking. When the guys break into Evenflow, and Mike takes his solo, they play it like its the first time. The energy is amazing when they play songs for the 500th time in thier carrers. Toronto surprised me, I was not expecting to hear half of the songs on May 10 I heard May 9. That was my own fault, because I created that 'no repeats' expectation in my head
What I'm saying...if the band can play a song 500 times and still enjoy it, why can't the fans hear it 10 times and still love it? After I thought of it that way, Toronto kicked even more ass then it did before that little eye opener
I never ever ever thought I would hear Beast of Burden, but that tag on May 10 was wicked!
they will continue to end with this forever..its such a bittersweet song...amazing and entertaining, but upsetting because the show is over. i love this as a closer.
It isn't a bad song but it has always been low on my list of favorite Pearl Jam songs. The only part that really matters to me is Mike's solo. I wouldn't mind it they never played the song again. But I don't want to bitch a lot about it. I am just thankful that Pearl Jam is still around and making great music.
But if I had my way - I think that they should rotate a few different closers more often. I think that "Once" or "Smile" would be good. Just as good - save the gem of the show for last. Gem meaning a song that they don't play often live or a cover or b-side or whatever.

one great thing about consistantly ending with YLB is that once in a while they play a song right after it (RITFW for example) and everyone gets really excited that the show keeps going.
How about Gone as a finisher??? The last word is gone, it could have an amazing solo from mike and it builds up to an intense finish from a slow beautiful acoustic start.
I like it or it with RITFW as closures. I know the show is over soon, and I won't be surprised when the lights remain on and the crew start packing up.

The question is sort of rhetorical................if they got bored playing it, they wouldn't play it. Would they?
No matter how much they play it, they never let the passion run out.
Everytime I've heard it, it's been done to perfection.
To me, that signals they are far from sick of playing it.

It certainly is not rhetorical. They are extremely fan oriented. If the crowd held up signs saying "please don't play YL anymore", I'm sure they would. Maybe they think the crowd wants to here it every night at the end. Personally I like change. Maybe a little Speed Wash to close out the night. What do you think??

perhaps they like how the song kinda winds down really slow, and everyone, except of rmike, can put down their instruments and just have a seat and mellow out for a bit.
