Worst Move in Music History

U2 trying to shove their music down people's throats.

I'm disgusted.

    Saw this on Twitter:
    "Evolution of music sales:
    1. Pay a lot
    2. Pay a little
    3. Pay anything
    4. OK fine, just pay once a month
    5. Fuck you, now you own a U2 album"

Is it that big a deal? Can't you just delete it? If I strongly hated U2 it would probably bring me some perverse pleasure to delete them and their music.

Bands make money touring, not selling records or by having their files downloaded. If you don't like Apple/U2's radical marketing strategy, just don't listen and delete. After my first listen, I like the record. I also like the "cover" a lot, but I thought Kanye did it better.

I'm pretty sure the worst move in musical history was made by either Pete Best or Dave Mustaine...

Seriously bitching about a free album???

I don't look at it as a free album, I look at it as someone (a company) accessing my devices and storing data without my permission. It's intrusive and not a trend I want to see continued. As an option, sure, it would be a great and brilliant public relations move, but this is just infringing on digital rights. It's obviously in the terms and agreement license or else they would be getting sued but it's just shady practice in my opinion.

  • Don't download it - delete it. Like those silly 'sample' songs that come pre-loaded on WMP, just delete and move on.

I think people's disgust should be reserved for Apple. They are the ones who downloaded this evil album to your "iCloud". U2 just sold them the music and made some money.

Lets see if this IS the worst move in music history. Lets see if U2 is the very last band in music history to make a move such as this. I guarantee you it won't be, look how many things in the music industry has changed in the last 10 years and it will continue to evolve. U2 just had the guts the balls to make such a move before anyone else while getting paid. It's one thing to dislike the band or dislike this album but as far as music history goes to me this is one of music history's most brilliant moves period. They even give a portion of the sales of the album to their many charities.Just take a look at their back catalog album sales have taken a bump upwards that alone makes this move BRILLIANT!

As for Dave Mustaine it was not his move from Metallica, he was fired from Metallica. He went unto doing his own thing even though in a unusually chaotic crazy political way he has made a name for himself with another band I love in Megadeth.

    Peace

Would you look at the situation differently if say a free Pearl Jam album appeared under your iTunes account? I've never seen so much outrage over a free thing that is deletable. If you don't like U2, then remove it and move on.

Someone posted in a U2 thread on AET where and how it can be deleted for those of you who feel this is uncontrollable intrusion.

Seems like a stupid thing to get all of bent out of shape about. There are so many better things to get outraged over.

It's not the music that bothers me, it's that Apple is accessing my device and storing content on it without my consent. So yes if it was a Pearl Jam album I'd still be upset, it's not the music I'm upset about.

You gave Apple your consent to do this at some point.

Whether it was when you opened your iTunes account or updated the OS. If you read through the "terms of conditions" you find that you gave them authority to do so.

No one actually ever reads the terms though.

Might be time to look at a new playback system, or get off the grid like in those disaster movies.

That's where my disgust lies, 100%. As far as U2 is concerned it's genius.
