Wait, was it Knoxville 98?No longer overwhelmed it seems so simple now.0 -
PBM: I like many of the principles in Ishmael, but feel that it is too one-sided. I agree, that developmentally, humans had a crucial point in history where we chose we would dominate nature, but I alos agree that that gave us many, many new benefits. It also gave us, many, many new problems. I belive everything grows and stagnation is not "natural"- this means there is no golden age to return too, no "perfect world". The fundamental rule in organic life is that things are born simple and become more complex and are completly changing all of the time. No movement=death.
Im also a big fan of "spiral dynamics" which describes the development of the human moral outlook/conciousness. one of the core principles is that development is healthy and what comes next needs to build on what has come before- its like a bridge- you cant knock down one level without taking what is above it out as well. The reason we have philosophy and higher ed is because the industrial revolution created the economy and lifestyle so the average man could be plato, et6c. etc.

There's a lot to talk about here.
I think MFC covers the not moving part. Perhaps MFC and it's message of escape could mean an escape from stagnation and moving on to explore new ways of thinking about the world. Obviously Ed has his meaning, but if you look in the context of YIELD's message, it could definitely fit.No longer overwhelmed it seems so simple now.0 -

I think we can evolve, but we shouldn't have to abandon our principles, our ethics, our morals. It seems that greed and an egotistical attitude are byproducts of our evolution.
Why is "our way" (that of man) assumed to be the correct way?

right, its not! Im thinking of honoring the value of nature, but holding onto what we have learned. I look at it like this: human beings identified with only themselves way back (cavemen), then were bound to the tribe, then the nation (nationalism-1800's-1900's) and now finally, thank god the entire planet. we are finally opening up our perspective that "all is one", and we are not seperate from anything. but, way back when we just werent there yet in terms of our outlooks- we couldnt conceive of anything outside of ourselves.YIELD Fan Club Sergeant-At-Arms0 -

Our venture to the YIELD thread grew out of the Starbucks/iTunes Thread.
I wonder when the new album will be sold by "The New AT&T"?

Sigh...those were the days.
Remember that episode of Entourage where they want to brand the Vinnie Chase name? I imagine that's the kind of meeting Pearl Jam got a few years ago with Clive.

Not since '95. I said goodbye to the third worst city in America some time ago.
