R.A.T.M.

Been on a Rage kick lately and came across this. Really cool to see the intensity and hear the power of the music these guys created at such a young age. Cool video.

  • Thank you for showing this. So much energy! Love a young band.

Zach's hair is short, Tim and Brad have NO tats yet and Morello was rocking a CCCP hat way back then?

So nice to see what was on the album was played in a little record store. Awesome!

One of my favorite lines was "steppin into the jam and I'll be slammin like Shaquile" . Of course this was a reference to Shaq when he was destroying rims at LSU. I love sports references!

Again, thank you for finding and sharing!

My first band. Like a first love, they will always have a special place for me.

Had the privilege of seeing them 4 times, including once before their hiatus. My first real show. Awesome.

I was here for the 2008 RNC convention. I left class to rush down there and hopefully see an unplanned show. I guess we got a little bit of a show (an acapella Bulls On Parade).

Fuck...this is my first show. I was down to the right on Tom's side. Wow. What a show. I remember the backdrop, Zack had hurt his ankle, it was so loud. I'm getting a little misty. What a show!

  • I wish some promoter would string together a show or two with Rage and Tool as co-headliners.

As it stands, I've resigned myself to flying to South America to see Rage. I thought it was rumoured that LA Rising was happening again this summer, but it never did.

I check into their website every now and then, but... crickets.

I think they will at some point.

I was at Lollapalooza in 2008 to see them and it was so intense with how many people were there...just for them. It was actually scary...

As the saying goes...they left a lot on the table...

RATM is the only band that I have never seen live before, but would fly to a random city in the US to see them if they announced a show. I'm fairly desperate to see them.. I have caught a really good NYC tribute band... but I'm sure that doesn't compare...
Actually the Tribute band has a show this Friday that I can't make.... (The Battle of Los Angeles)

Rage against the machine is the most powerful energetic band I've ever seen live! Top 5 band for me no doubt. Lucky enough to see these guys about 10 times live. THANK GOD! And zach needs to regroup with the boys and yes THIRTY, tour with tool would be INSANE!

They were my band before PJ was my band. At the tender age of 14, saw them for my first real show. GA...just about died on the rail...

    8/24/07 - Alpine Valley

9/2/08 - the "Acapella Show" at the State Capitol in St. Paul (RNC protest show cancelled)
    9/3/08 - Minneapolis RNC show

Today is the 17th anniversary of my first show, 6th of my last.

The only critique I'd have about them live is they didn't change their sets much from night to night. Call that the PJ effect I guess...

Anybody at the Nassau Long Island show when as soon as the lights went down, shitloads of people started rushing down to the GA? Security tried to stop them but you can't stop 1000 people with about 10 security guards lol. That was insane. Battle of Long Island!

That would happen at every show. They never learn!

Run The Jewels 2 came out today (El-P & Killer Mike). Zack is featured on track 4 ("Count Your Eyes and Count to Fuck"). Awesome to hear him again; a few classic Zack lines in there.

I've not listened to them in years, then today an old friend walks into my work and starts talking RATM...an hr later and I'm playing them (loudly) for people/customers.

    Good Times.
  • Hands down one of the best live bands I've ever seen. One of the shows I saw, in particular stands out - Reading Festival 2000 - I think they pulled the biggest crowd I'd ever seen at the festival, and for some ridiculous reason they were only 4th from the top of the bill, so it was broad daylight, but they absolutely slayed it.

I saw them again in 2010 when they were over in the UK - they had not lost anything, if any band needs to record a new record it's them.
  • I'd take them just playing some shows.

This band seriously needs to make more music. Love them.
Got to see them once they got back together and toured Australia as headliners of the Big Day Out Festival. They were the only reason I went, and they did not disappoint. You could feel the anticipation building all day throughout the crowd. I was up on a rise as I wanted a better view and it was the most intense crowd I have ever been part of- just BRUTAL , in the best possible way.
On a side note, lucky enough to meet Tom pre show at this years EV show in Brisbane. Really nice guy!
I'll ride the wave where it takes me

One of the hardest songs and best IMHO, by this band…

I love howe it's on the Godzilla soundtrack and the lyrics completely bitch slap the movie.

    RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE

No matter how hard you try, you can't stop us now
No matter how hard you try, you can't stop us now

We're the renegades of this atomic age
    This atomic age of renegades
    Renegades of this atomic age
    This atomic age of renegades

Since the Prehistoric ages and the days of ancient Greece
Right down through the Middle Ages
Planet earth kept going through changes
And then the Renaissance came and times continued to change
Nothing stayed the same but there were always renegades
Like Chief Sitting Bull, Tom Paine
Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcolm X
They were renegades of their time and age
    So many renegades

    We're the renegades of funk
    We're the renegades of funk
    We're the renegades of funk
    We're the renegades of funk

From a different solar system many many galaxies away
We are the force of another creation
    A new musical revelation
And we're on this musical mission to help the others listen
And groove from land to land singin' electronic chants like
    Zulu nation
    Revelations
    Destroy our nations
    Destroy our nations

Now renegades are the people with their own philosophies
They change the course of history
Everyday people like you and me
We're the renegades we're the people
    With our own philosophies
We change the course of history
Everyday people like you and me
    C'mon
    We're the renegades of funk
    We're the renegades of funk
    We're the renegades of funk
    We're the renegades of funk

Poppin', sockin', rockin' puttin' a side of hip-hop
Because where we're goin' there ain't no stoppin'
Poppin', sockin', rockin', puttin' a side of hip-hop
Because where we're goin' there ain't no stoppin'
Poppin', sockin', rockin' puttin' a side of hip-hop
'Cause we're poppin', sockin', rockin' puttin' a side of hip-hop
Poppin', sockin', rockin' puttin' a side of hip-hop

    We're the renegades of funk
    We're the renegades of funk
    We're the renegades of funk
    We're the renegades of funk

    We're teachers of the funk
    And not of empty popping
We're blessed with the force and the sight of electronics
With the bass, and the treble the horns and our vocals
'Cause every time I pop into the beat we get fresh

There was a time when our music
Was something called the Bay Street beat
People would gather from all around
To get down to the big sound
You had to be a renegade in those days
To take a man to the dance floor

    Say jam sucker (jam)
    Say jam sucker (jam)
    Say groove sucker (groove)
    Say groove sucker (groove)
    Say dance sucker (dance)
    Say dance sucker (dance)
    Now move sucker (move)
    Now move sucker (move)
  • Now I know what I'm listening to today. Did you all see that college band cover Bulls on Parade a few months ago? Badass!
