Hamas may be winning in its PR game, but so long as Palestinians remain without liberation, and the death tolls get higher - the Palestinians certainly aren't winning. Unfortunately, I feel that tonight the killing resumes when Israel rejects the cease-fire conditions. If anyone cares to respond, I've asked three times now throughout this thread (as recently as two pages ago) about the logic of Hamas' ten-year truce conditions.JimmyV said:Hamas is winning?

Yes. The author himself admits that being a freedom fighter preceeds any rational thinking. If it is just a PR war then I can see a case being made that Hamas is winning. Maybe that will translate to real gains for the Palestinian people in Gaza, maybe it won't. I would not go so far as saying the people in Gaza are winning anything right now.JC29856 said:

I can't explain that - I wish I could. NOTHING should precede rational thinking when using guns and rockets.JC29856 said:

And again - there are no shades of grey to the fact that Palestinians are either liberated, or not. There is no "almost" liberated, and therefore there is no such thing as being in the process of "winning" for the Palestinians. Hamas can be winning, because the only logical goal I can think of from sending rockets in Israel's direction is the knowledge of disproportionate response from Israel, and swaying of public opinion: this is how Hamas is winning.
Palestinians are either dying and oppressed or not. Are they dying? Yes. Are they oppressed? Yes. So are they winning? You decide.'05 - TO, '06 - TO 1, '08 - NYC 1 & 2, '09 - TO, Chi 1 & 2, '10 - Buffalo, NYC 1 & 2, '11 - TO 1 & 2, Hamilton, '13 - Buffalo, Brooklyn 1 & 2, '15 - Global Citizen, '16 - TO 1 & 2, Chi 2

The sixth paragraph of the article. I would copy and paste but I am on my phone. And no, that wasn't the point he was trying to make. I just found the word choice interesting given the discussion of who is winning.JC29856 said:

I read Gaza and the resistance, too. But what resistance movement did his friend join if not Hamas? I assumed (maybe incorrectly) that is who and what the author was speaking of.

Hamas is 100% winning the PR war. I have stated repeatedly that that is what they care about instead of the well being of the people of gaza. After all, Halad Mashal stated last week that they "won". I have no idea how 1800 deaths can be considered a win except during a PR war.JimmyV said:

For the record, I don't believe that there is such a thing as "winning" when it comes to war. Everyone loses during war time...Still can't believe I met Mike Mccready at the Guggenheim and got a pic with him!!!!!

If it's real, it's scary. The nuts on the right have been saying that in Israel for a long time, though0

Accusing UNRWA of maintaining active and extensive ties with Hamas— and of supporting its activities throughout the month-long war— Senate Foreign Relations Committee members Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) wrote a letter this week to US Secretary of State John Kerry accusing the UN agency of bias and characterizing its role in the conflict as "troubling."

I think that's a double-standard as well. For the record, Ben Cardin's pro-Israel contributions were $249,553, and Mark Kirk's were $747,029. Thankfully, the UN has shown that their positions are not subject to the US's, and hopefully things will remain that way.JC29856 said:http://www.jpost.com/Arab-Israeli-Conflict/Senators-want-UNRWA-investigated-over-troubling-Gaza-role-370897
