In the second photo (the black and white one)... it turns out the three men were hacky sacking. The one fellow slipped and fell. The other two were laughing at their friend's folly.PJ_Soul said:
My point about context comes raging back. Gimme, what about this photo convinces you that those soldiers are doing anything close to using that girl as a human shield? Again, not siding with Israeli soldiers here. I am just interested in the Truth.gimmesometruth27 said:
The photo that first really got me thinking about this "trend" is this one (this and variations of the same theme that circulated WIDELY on social media and in mainstream Palestinian media maybe a couple of months ago):
Okay, so the initial story was that these boys were harassing and heckling this old lady after she'd been kicked out of her home by Israeli soldiers. This is the story that went viral. Well, that seemed a bit odd to me, so I dug deeper. Turns out that story was a COMPLETE fabrication designed to stir up hate towards Israeli CIVILIANS. The REAL story is that the teens and a bunch of people were out on the streets having a peaceful celebration and singing an Israeli celebratory song. That old lady came out of her home and started trying to stop them from singing by banging on a serving tray. The boys in that photo were simply continuing to sing over the racket she was making and making the point that they wanted to continue singing despite the fact that the old woman wanted them to shut up. So basically, that photo is one of some teenaged boys being defiant towards an old woman who is banging a pan in their faces. Yet because it was used as propaganda, it played a significant role in deepening the hate that people feel for Israeli CITIZENS.
Ever since then, I've been VERY wary of any photos coming out of that conflict if they are being used as a way to stir up emotions (on either side of fence... but of course in most cases the photos are against Israel, so, you know..."My brain's a good brain!"0 -
The earliest I can find of the Jews and the Palestinian woman is from from Yahoo Singapore. The site is no longer listed, but the first reported photograph's title is "http://d.yimg.com/hb/ng/co/afp/20100512/17/3182893421-israel-defiant-on-settlements-as-it-marks-jerusalem-day.jpg"PJ_Soul said:The photo that first really got me thinking about this "trend" is this one (this and variations of the same theme that circulated WIDELY on social media and in mainstream Palestinian media maybe a couple of months ago):

The photo was listed on May 12th, 2010, which corresponds to Jerusalem Day of that year. The picture was then reposted on a flickr page (https://www.flickr.com/photos/plasmastik/4611942781/), with the original photo credit, on May 16th, 2010, with the following caption:
"A Palestinian woman whose house has been occupied by Jewish settlers argue with Israelis who came to celebrate Jerusalem Day on May 12, 2010 in front of her disputed house in the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah. Israel is celebrating the anniversary of the "unification" of Jerusalem, marking 43 years since it captured mainly Arab east Jerusalem during the 1967 Middle East war. Thousands of people, mostly nationalist-religious Jews, were expected to take part in an annual march through Jerusalem later Wednesday that culminates in the Old City at the Wailing Wall, one of the holiest sites in Judaism AFP PHOTO/AHMAD GHARABLI (Photo credit should read AHMAD GHARABLI/AFP/Getty Images)"

Bad joke. I know. Couldn't resist though. Things have been pretty hostile and angry around here lately."My brain's a good brain!"0 -
The solution for posting images is to just post the link to the image. Then if someone wants to see it, they can click on it. It's not usually ok to hot-link to people's images anyway. This solution allows people to post all the images they want and allows others to not look if that's what they want.
Thank you for cooperating. The spoiler feature only works on text.

Example of freedom and democracy in Israel

Israel has long had stormy relations with the UNHRC.
In January 2012, it became the first country to refuse to attend a periodic review of its human rights record.
And two months later, it cut all ties with the Geneva-based council after it announced an inquiry into how West Bank settlements are infringing on Palestinians rights.0 -
Again, it'd be nice to see a raw, unedited version of this, without cuts or jumps to different angles/times.JC29856 said:Example of freedom and democracy in Israel

That being said, good for this kid for standing up for this cause. It's an embarrassment that Israelis and the Israeli government have the audacity to claim to represent the world Jewry with their actions. I hope people like him can help convince the world that we are not that naive and blind to injustices.'05 - TO, '06 - TO 1, '08 - NYC 1 & 2, '09 - TO, Chi 1 & 2, '10 - Buffalo, NYC 1 & 2, '11 - TO 1 & 2, Hamilton, '13 - Buffalo, Brooklyn 1 & 2, '15 - Global Citizen, '16 - TO 1 & 2, Chi 2

Reports that Israel broke truce again by shelling coastline.
And this from raw story..
The United States is complicit in human rights violations committed by Israel against Gaza, said linguist and political scientist Noam Chomsky.
Chomsky told Democracy Now that U.S. coverage of the shelling reflected Israeli propaganda, and he dismissed a widely quoted remark by Israel’s former prime minister, Golda Meir, as dishonest and cruel.
Bob Schieffer, host of CBS’ “Face the Nation,” repeated the quote — “We can forgive the Arabs for killing our children, but we can never forgive them for forcing us to kill their children” – on a recent broadcast, and Chomsky said U.S. media coverage has been “shameful.”

Israel Has Frequently Used Palestinians as Human Shields
Israelis frequently accuse Palestinians of using human shields.
That claim is highly questionable.
However, in 2005, the Israeli high court found that Israeli soldiers had used Palestinian civilians as human shields 1,200 times in the past 5 years. As Ynet reported at the time:

Is this one of your snide comments that's a sarcastic commentary on what you assume Israel wants, or did you read this in an article? If so, please post a link - if not, I will continue to insist on a source on your posts which are anything but opinion-driven.JC29856 said:

Please tell where these reports are. A Google search for 'Israel', as well as one for 'Gaza', leaves me incapable of finding it, when I've seen at least one report (usually several, actually) for every other cease-fire violation this far in the conflict - even the unsubstantiated ones.JC29856 said:Reports that Israel broke truce again by shelling coastline.

I emailed him and asked him why continue to fight when civilians are getting massacred, like some have asked here, part of his response "when you don't have much you don't have much to lose" "were fighting for the unborn" "Why stop when we're winning"0 -
