    That's pretty much how I feel about it too - although I'm not saying SBM and FD shouldn't have been released in some form, but to me they tainted the rest of the album that otherwise could have been a more coherent release.

    I think masterpiece is too strong, but it's definitely a step in the right direction after Backsacer and even S/Tl I think it's the most creative they've been since Riot Act. It's great that there are a few tunes like we've never heard from them before. That being said, I don't think it's quite as successful in it's execution as some earlier albums.

    the only criticism I have of the 2 UK shows is they didnt play more Lightning Bolt! amazing album

    almost a year in and it has held up better than anything since binaural for me. still don't like ltrp and swallowed whole....but I like/really like everything else. lightning bolt (the song) is fucking awesome live, too.

    it's not even close to a masterpiece but it is a damn good album, especially considering it's from a band that is 20+ years in.

    solid effort and gives me hope that the next one will be even better.

    Wow didn't realize people disliked Avacodo so much.. It's my favorite post Yield album....

    Lightning Bolt is polarized for me. I really like about half the songs Getaway, Lightning Bolt, Mind Your Manners, Swallowed Whole, Future Days and there's some I skip a lot: Sirens, Yellow Moon, Father's Son...

    It's a decent album but I receive the term Masterpiece for album's that are the best of the best, and even Pearl Jam has at least 5 better albums on their own, so I can't call it a Masterpiece.

    My Favorites:

    1 and 2) Yield/Vitalogy Tie
    3) No Code
    4) Vs.
    5) Ten
    6) Avacado
    7) Binaural
    8) Riot Act
    9/10) Tossup between Backspacer and Lightning Bolt

    I like Backspacer.. it's the same as lightning bolt for me.... I like half the songs, dislike some others, and am meh about a few. Not like some albums where I love them front to back, warts and all....

    So posted after 2 reaaaaaly good margaritas, put in Yield full volume then put in Lightning Bolt. Some really great songs that put me in that place only Pj can. So maybe not Masterpiece ..............no no no. I'm sticking with Masterpiece.

    Beatles? Meh. Now Houses of the Holy, get your point. >:)

    I don't think it's a masterpiece...yet. Such a classification deserves more time than (almost) a year. But I fucking love this record! When it first came out there were only two "eh" moments, but Sleeping by Myself has grown on me, and after hearing Future Days live, it's okay. Even more okay if you stop the studio track at about 3:58.
