Kendall Jones, cheerleader/deranged trophy hunter?

I stumbled upon this yesterday. I cant wrap my head around it.
This young lady has caused some controversy over her trophy hunting in Africa. She has shot and killed Elephants, leopards, lions, hippos, etc... There is a rhino in one pic, but they say it was tranquilized to take samples and help it. She claims that everything she kills is eaten by the locals/starving villages. Ok.

I clicked on the link to her facebook page and realized she's getting quite a bit of hate of course...But it appears that she might be doing this to get herself on a reality show or something. She also vehemently defends killing these threatened species because she claims the money she pays actually helps avert poachers and helps with conservation.

I too read about her just yesterday and almost came to tears looking at those photos...her fucking smiling next to her "hunts" made me sick to my stomach, especially one particular shot I saw of her almost dancing with a dead leopard.

The best comment was in the video portion by some ditz: I think people are too sensitive. Like, if you don't like the pictures don't look at them.

Sooooooo... ignore the fact some bimbo is shooting rhinoceroses, elephants, and big cats... for kicks?

God, there's so many idiots out there. So many.

  • The internet poses a significant problem for people.

It was so much easier to assume the best of people beforehand. Now, every new, shitty story that we are exposed to is like another blow to the rock that's trying to keep from breaking. It's tough to remain optimistic for humanity when we are besieged with such a wide spectrum of stories ranging from the completely deranged to the foolishly stupid.

Obviously we're better than worse... but there's a good reason why the face palm emoticon was invented.

Good point, Thirty. Besieged is a great way to put it.

Gotta take the good with the bad, or vice versa.

    That's life!

(and now I've got a hankering for Sinatra)

I've made a point of searching out (or maybe just being more aware of) news about the kindness, compassion and generosity of people.

It's out there; may we never lose sight of it.

We watched that old movie last night- Nine to Five - where in one fantasy scene the oh so lovely Jane Fonda character shoots the Dabney Coleman character and his head ends up on the wall with his other hunting "trophies".

    hmmm...

    Hahaha!

I remember seeing a similar story a little while back. "Permits" to hunt an endangered species were being auctioned off, ironically to supposedly help endangered species. Sick. While I don't doubt a lot of money can be raised, I can't fathom why it must be done this way. The people buying these permits obviously have a shitload of disposable income, and could easily donate the money free and clear. But I guess that would take the "fun" out of it.

i saw an article that facebook removed all of her photos overnight.

waiting for the FREEDOM and first amendment crowd to start griping about it.

i agree with facebook here. if you want to do something as unpopular as murdering endangered species, something that is going to piss a bunch of people off and stir serious emotions, at the very least, you need to keep the images of that shit to yourself. start your own website where you have to pay for things like a domain name and bandwidth and stuff.

    Honestly, I think she's a troll. Semi-mutantish.

I could probably look past that over-proportioned forehead of hers if she had a warm and loving personality; but she kills large animals for kicks.

Ain't nobody got time for that.

I'm not defending her, but she claims that none of the animals she killed were endagered. I did see some were on threatened lists though. The rhino was apparently just tranquilized so that they could take blood samples and help it somehow.

She continues to claim that hunters like herself help with conservation. She last posted this:

"In the late 1970s, Kenya banned all hunting and opened up the floodgates for poaching. Since that period, they've lost 85% of their wildlife population. According to USAID.gov, “Seventy-five percent of Kenya’s tourism revenue comes from wildlife tourism.” Draw your own conclusions from the facts."

While I still disagree with shooting these animals, she raises these points to convince people that hunters like her are helping. It is all an excuse for her to feel good about shooting a leopard, lion, or hippo? I can see how her buying 160K in permits does raise money to help with conservation, but there's gotta be a better way.

There was a really good article in GQ about the hunt for an elephant. Not sure if it was this lady or not, but the article makes you see both sides of the argument. Now boasting about killing animals that many people perceive as not supposed to be killed is another thing.

Really, any action can be rationalized. I'm sure there are things I do that others would not approve of or understand. I guess I'll just never understand what drives a person to want to kill an innocent animal. And that Spielberg is the worst - bringing an extinct creature back to life just so he can take it away. Total megalomaniac.

hunting for conservation is a lot like fucking for virginity.

I figure that maybe anyone who goes around shooting endangered animals should be shot themselves so they can see how it feels.

This works for me! We should drug them up to to make it easier for us to find them too!

Any so-called legitimate argument she could make about this noble cause of hers are erased when she's sitting and smiling proudly (and smugly, at least to me) next to an animal she took down.

I'm typically pretty laid-back and non-violent but my god I've love to backhand this one.

I never understood the rationale of people that are against guns but have no problem with guns used to reinforce their ideals onto those that they disagree with.

Good point. No guns or any weapons, for that matter. I think it should be a cage match. If you want to show your "dominance" over the animal kingdom, at least make it a fair fight.

Not to jump on the other side, because I could never shoot an elephant. But in the GQ article about shooting the elephant the journalist asked everyone he encountered about how elephant hunts conserve the land, and where they are not hunted they destroy the land. No one had an answer. It also fed a lot of the natives, and brought in money from ppl going hunting.

Maybe there's a better way than just killing them, more zoo's or something...

Well, I did some more digging, and she claims that none of the animals she kills are endangered. Some appear threatened though. Nothing she has done is illegal apparently. She posts a lot about how certain animals numbers are up due to legal hunting and how if hunting was banned, then there would be no money coming in and poachers would run rampant. It does appear that there are two sides to her story. I still dont agree with killing these animals...and it especially irks me too to see her posing and big smiles with dead carcasses.

Regarding the facebook page, she seems to have taken down most of the controversial pictures, and is now posting pictures of her with her cute dog and one of her saving a baby deer from a fox. She's definitely got one fucked up agenda...it seems its just to get famous.
