Oslo didn't deserve Strangest Tribe

No rarities allowed in Europe.....whats that all about? The band has been touring Europe since 92. I was not in Oslo but I am happy for the folks that got it. You win some, you lose some...unpredictable is what this band is all about, and its something we all love about them. So let's keep it that way.

Has nothing to do with that. When they busted out Leash again in 2006 in Boston, the crowd went bonkers before Eddie sang the first verse. This Oslo crowd had no clue what the song was, let alone hearing it live for the 1st time ever. Boo.

And a rarity is a song that is played rarely. This was a first edition and I personally don't think it was appreciated for how special it was. P.S. Did Ed bring 2nd shirt to the European shows? I actually love Walter more than most so I really hope this jersey makes it to Denver

I see what you mean and I experienced more than one of these situations at some of these Europe shows. I doubt the band puts as much thought into things like that as we do. And there is actually a story behind Strangest Tribe in Europe, going back to a fan sign some shows back, I believe Trieste. I guess that's how it got rolling...and then played in Oslo. They have been playing requests almost on a nightly basis, this falls in that drawer as well, even if more special due to the debut nature of it. Ed wore the jersey in Amsterdam I believe, and also in Berlin..and I guess Oslo so I guess he likes it...you got good chances.

And on a real note I don't see how you can be against my thought. People have been on this forum for YEARS begging for Strangest Tribe live. An example; "My oven died last week, please play Strangest Tribe when you come next week, Mary in Toronto." Anyway Youtube has the footage, only like 4-5 people were excited. Ed feeds off that, remember that fan in Vancouver a few years ago that he screamed at? The reaction of that crowd was worse in my opinion. Its not a personal thing since I never expected them to play it at a show I could be at but I expected them to play it at a show where the crowd would APPRECIATE it.

Why wouldn't the crowd have appreciated it yesterday? 99% of the crowd didn't know the song because it's an obscure Christmas song that was never played live before. The people who did know the song, showed a reaction, others stayed silent, I don't see how that shows any misappreciation. Playing only the standard songs when the crowd isn't filled with hardcore fans like in MSG or the Gorge, would make for pretty boring tours imo.

Yeah, the only hardcore fans are at the Gorge (never been) or MSG (hopefully never will be in NY) Try anywhere in Philly, Florida, California, Texas, Chicago, Milwaukee, Phoenix (yes the same Phoenix that they never saw in 10 years but Ed keep playing fantasy ball with the Cubs and eventually played Bee Girl and Around the Bend to everyone's surprise, That's appreciation.)
The point is that if 99% of the crowd didn't appreciate it, than it SHOULD NOT have been played.

Where do you get that 99% didn't appreciate it? If you want to argue that more people would have known the song if they played it in the us, everyone would agree. But knowing it has nothing to do with appreciating it and certainly not with deserving to hear a song. What does tbe deserrving part even mean? People who only know Alive, Black and betterman are not worthy to be at the show as they don't show any reaction when another song starts?

99% of any crowd doesn't react to rarities...thats why they aren't played all that often

I can assure you that the local fans talked about little else in the morning hours on Facebook, at least.

"Waiting On A Friend" was pretty cool too, btw. And, "Satan's Bed". I was hoping for Crazy Mary and Chloe/Crown myself, but I'm not too bummed. ;)

NYC, Chicago, and almost any place in the 'Merica outside of a fan club only show would not have gotten a reaction to that song.

I think it would have gotten a decent reaction from the 10C GA/Reserved sections...much more than what the video from Oslo appears to show.

That being said: they played it in Oslo. Can't change that fact.

Thing is... There wasn't any "golden circle" in Oslo. The 10C members were spread around the crowd, but there's a good possibility that there was a higher concentration in the front rows. ;)

That's what I was going to say... before the show even started the front area was no longer 10C only... "deserved" seems like such an odd word to use in this context anyway...

It's a shame you'd suggest that when the band was clearly proud of their performance (Ed went over to Stone and acknowledged him) and even managed to execute the song flawlessly.

The seasoned band follower will tell you it's often the "less deserving" cities that see some of the greatest shows/sets/rarities. It's no coincidence.
To quote the 10C from Newsletter #8: "Please understand we have a lot of members and it is very hard to please everybody. If you are one of those unhappy people...please call 1-900-IDN-TCAR."

PJ plays a lot of shows. They bust out songs all over the place, and you can't possibly go to every show to catch them all. I've seen my share of crazy rarities, and I've missed several along the way. I am jealous of Strangest Tribe, but what can you do? Saying Oslo didn't deserve it is just sour grapes. Get over it.

Let's not act as if there's a huge reaction to other really rare songs. Even if there is big 10c turnout a song like Strangest Tribe is never gonna get a huge reaction. Not everybody follows every setlist and even if they did, it's not a song for everybody.

Comparing it to Leash is pretty off base. People that don't even know that song are gonna get drawn in just from the high energy nature.

I saw Bee Girl in Boston and there wasn't some huge reaction, so maybe PJ should quit playing rare songs there.

I thought it got the best reaction tbh, the boot is going to sounds so good without all the whooping and shit that drowns out a lot of their other acoustic performances...it seemed to fit perfectly with the Viking history of Oslo too.

And when they played Undone in Boston back in 2010, much of the crowd looked around wondering what song was playing.

Leash is a bad comparison. While it may have become rare, it was still on their second album which was released at the height of their popularity. The number of people familiar with Strangest Tribe is not comparable to the number of people familiar with Leash.

Good for Oslo. They did deserve it.
