This is a nice show. An all-time great? History will judge. For me, it's missing a lot of my favorites, but certainly lots of gems. :-)

Am I alone in thinking "Strangest Tribe" is overrated?? To me it's always been one of those songs whose appeal lay primarily in its rarity. I mean, it's cool they played it, but I could think of a hundred Pearl Jam songs I'd rather hear.

But that's the point, isn't it? I don't think there are too many around here would put ST in their top 10, 20 or even 30 songs, but the chance to hear a rarely played gem is pretty cool.
Yes and no: it's nice when rarities pop up, but I'd still rather hear a song I like that I've heard dozens of times before than one I don't that I've never heard. To me, "Strangest Tribe" feels like a song that's become overvalued not because it's an incredible song but because it'd never been played. I just don't think I've ever gotten this one.
I love Strangest Tribe -- especially if I am driving along at night in the middle of winter. Definitely a haunting song in the Fatal vain.

Listening to Strangest Tribe now for the very first time, I quite like it

Have they ever opened with 'Black"?

I'm gonna give it a fresh listen later. It's just not a song that ever jumped out at me (whereas "Fatal" verrrrry much did).

em jot - that's a tragedy. I feel for you.... I had the same thing happen many years ago. But all I requested was Oceans...

    Strangest Tribe... wow... Just wow

It was a request for our friend, we did it for him, we were holding separate sheets of paper with single letters on them, saying Strangest Tribe. Ed said that if we can spell some other song out of those letters we might get a chance to hear it :) We then put Bee Girl up, he smiled a lot when he noticed it, then Garden... So they played Bee Girl later on that night. And Strangest Tribe and Garden tonight...
I know it stings but you are most likely responsible for it getting played at all. I can't see it being a coincidence.
That's a very good point. Small comfort for missing it, em jot, but think about it - you made impact enough to make Pearl Jam go and learn to play a song they'd never played in the 15 years since it was released. They DID play it for you & your friend, even if you weren't there.

And the entire PJ community thanks you for that

Thank Tomek! He made the sign, the letters! We were only holding them up with him in the first row in Berlin! And first of all thank Mike! He was going around with the Strangest Tribe banner for years! :) Ed used to show him the middle finger every time he he would see it, so Tomek thought it would be cool to do something for Mike and he made those letters/sheets for Berlin show. Neither me or Tomek were in Oslo tonight but guess what... MIKE WAS! In the first row! :)
