My wife and 9-year old daughter made the trip from Ireland to Amsterdam for both shows this week. Before we left on Saturday, my wife received a call from her parents informing her that her Grandpa was not "doing well" and would probably not "last long". So needless to say, he was in our minds and hearts on Monday night. Especially when Pearl Jam then proceed to play Sirens, Light Years and Comeback. All of which resonate as truly emotional songs. We left Monday night happy and fortunate to be "in the house" with PJ. After a much needed rest, we then made our way to the Ziggo dome for night two. While waiting for the band to come out, my wife was casually glancing at her phone to pass the time when she says, "hey Justin, look", (points to phone screen) It was an email from her sister in the US that simply stated, "Grandpa is gone." Meanwhile, my little inquisitive daughter who is wedged between us, asks, "What, what, what's going on, what are you guys looking at"? Between her mother's teared up eyes and my concerned look, she knew something was wrong, my wife and I both said, "Old Guy has passed away". So there we were, at a sold out show 5000 miles away from where we were born, all crying before the boys even come out. There are two ways this could have turned out, good or bad. We collectively as a family pulled together to have a fantastic time. The bands energy and raw emotion failed to let us feel any other way. And to be honest, I can't remember a better show from PJ. When they played Sirens and Just Breathe we all looked at each other and knew who words were for. They even played the mother-daughter-father trilogy. It blew my mind. In conclusion, I want to thank Pearl Jam for helping our family through this most difficult time. It's Hard to Imagine - but thank you so much.
Sorry for your loss. You had the chance to spend this hard time with your family and PJ helped...I think all your PJ family is with you and yours by thoughts too.
Back from both nights. Both shows were greater than great, epic. Dutch paper uses the word "magisterial". I would say: great 2 openers followed by a bunch of great rock songs. Some suprises, epic betterman followed by magic with the encore with an all or none that even people who didn't know the song were hit. Mother was the perfect follow up running into daughter. Lightning strikes is a classic of this era and very under estimated lyrically. Could talk an hour about this one. Funny words, enjoying to play, sound, additional "go pro" camera's from the footpadles, rocking the mike in MYM, celebrate life at the end.
Not to forget great greater, greatest drumming, guitar player (don't forget that guy on the right) and singing. Blessed to have been there.
I figured there wouldn't be a show with fewer than 30 songs. The guys must be tired or getting back into the swing of things. No doubt it was a great show though! Has anyone actually found out what Ed's leg issue is?
It's called "Worcester 2 Syndrome", whereby night 2 bows to the pressures of what night 1 hath put on it.
That only seems true for Amsterdam in terms of setlist lengh. They really were on fire and seemed really tight. They definitely didn´t hold back. Perhaps the songs were scretched of the setlist because they gave so much power in the main set..
It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.
I was amazed about how loud and fast the setlist was. I didn't expect them to play like that any more especially after the tour last year. 10 songs in a row before they slowed down with Immortality. It felt like a beast of a show. Totally amazing. Not sure thow which I liked better, night 1 or night 2
What was slow about last tour? I saw them twice and they were both 35 song set rockers. As was the whole tour.

Not really sure how to responed to your reply. I get the impression that your angry.
But let´s pretend that your not.
I didn´t say last tour was slow, I said that the second gig in Amsterdam was loud and fast. I didn´t expect that, because I had the 2013 tour format in my mind. I was kind of expecting the same build up for the setlist. The first night had that more or less, except that we only got two slow songs as an opener, before they kicked off. Like the 2013 tour it had some slower songs in between making the tempo go up and down. I don´t really find that all that weird, seeing how long they play and the fact that they aren´t in their thirties no more. The second night had two slow songs to open like the first night, but then went on to play nine fast songs before slowing down. It seemed like they woke up and figured they were only seventeen.
Cool that you got to see them twice last year, depending on the night you´ll probable have had a great night. I was happy that they played 32 songs the first night, that seldom happens in Europe. To get a 35 song show is really sweet, but to say that they were made up by 35 rock songs is not realistic. You can check the setlists on the site. I take it you know this, they don´t play sets with 35 fast songs. They never did for that matter, because even in 2003 that would have been to much. They always have Wishlist, Immortality, I am mine thrown in there to slow the tempo down. They did that no differently in the 2013 tour, and they even started with three slow songs. You were there, you know this, you got to enjoy this treat.
Amsterdam had Pendulum and Hard to imagine to open, but it was followed by Nothingman and Small town. In the 2013 tour you got cool combinations like Pendulum opening followd by Hard to imagine, or Oceans/Can´t keep or Pendulum/Long road/Sometimes.
Anyway your reply gives me the impression that you feel I dismis the 2013 tour. That just isn't the case.
It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.

My man! No worries! I've been lucky with this band throughout the years. Moved from the west coast to the east coast (jersey) back in 95. The band tour followed me to the east coast and it's been one hell of a ride ever since! Stories, ya man, I got some stories lol. But there's also people here who've past the 100 mark! I told dimi in Amsterdam that when I hit 100, I mite just retire! He looked at me like I was crazy!!!! He said,"come on brother, this is pearl jam!" Hahahahahaha so fucken true dimi!!!!

First things first: Thank you Pearl Jam for rocking on and on and on and getting better and better and better. those life gigs are the highlight in my life, my boots that keep me going, the moments of pure happiness in dancing, singing and being with like minded people to celebrate and party the music. but Amsterdam 2 had more to offer: the band seemed to be on fire and so in tune with the audience. Uhhhh, did they do a great job that night. Even so the setlist seems short somehow (read this somewhere), they played very long... so many solos, intros, jams - perfect. I think only betterman with save it - the best ever, indeed - last for 10 minutes or so... it was stunning and overwhelming all in one. All of them played so wonderfully, really!!! Even Ed did the wind mills, wow !!! And the songs they played: it couldn't be any better, so many of faves were heard. HTI, LB, SeveredHand, Marker, Unthought known, Mother (a dream: mother- life), All or None, and Rain And at one moment, I thought, that maybe we all get heard or are indeed able to move something ... it was so amazing, it really makes you think, even days later, still with a smile on the face...
So, maybe it is the city of Amsterdam that is so great and beautiful or the audience, that is just happy there or Pearl Jam, enjoying the nicest side of Europe... dunno, but I do know it was a blast and I was given to fly.... (even both nights, because night one was a blast, too, but surprise, surprise, they always can do just a bit better again ... BRAVO PEARL JAM and thanks, danke und hipp hipp hurra!
and ps. I have so much fun to get older with you, still dancing

justdimi thank you for your beautiful pictures! I can see myself on one of them.
Also binaural2002 and your Daughter video... Thank you, it's fantastic, I watched it so many times already, I LOVED Ams 2 version of it, loved the Another Brick tag, the crowd singalong. Daughter was never my favourite song but after Ams 2 is much much higher in my hierarchy, it was just perfect. And also you can see me on the big screen after the "angry Ed" part of a song

I won't embarrass myself by trying to come up with the perfect review for this show, because it was truly an amazing experience. We were blown away. This show is still living in my soul almost a week later. Pearl Jam, you are truly a gift to this world. Thank you for your music, your hearts, and your soul.
How many different buttons did they sell at the merchandise? Unfortunately I only bought the windmill. I didn´t realise that there was even one more ... the one with the tulips. Was there a third one?

Thought the 1st night was great so just relaxed into this one wondering what they would pull out. Hard to Imagine is a great opener and was better than the previous time I saw it in Berlin. Slightly less rocking opening set but worked for me. I always love 'Last Exit' and hearing LTRP was a bonus as it is one of my favourites of the new record. 'Dissident' is one I can mark off the PJ bucket list - slightly surprised this isn't played more often.
All or None? They just keep on surprising us. Great version too. Enjoyed hearing the Mother cover too. Daughter is always great to here - I've always seen it as one of the core PJ songs if that makes sense. Nice rocking end that got me dancing along to RITFW again.
Thought the 1st night edged it but this was a hugely enjoyable night spent watching the show with fellow fans, some of whom I had just met. I hope to catch the boys in Holland again some day.
