I have hotel reservations at Hampton Inn & Suites on Beale Street and Double Tree on Sanderlin Ave. Which one do you suggest I keep? Thanks.

You can't go wrong with either of those. But for pure proximity I'd say Beale St hands down. That Double Tree is nice but it's 25 minutes from the Forum. You might check reviews to see if the Hampton is a bit loud since its so close to Beale St? But given that the show is on a Tuesday I doubt it will be too rowdy on Beale St. You really can't beat that location. You can walk to everything you need.

how late are bars open after the show?
  • Can't wait to rock out in Memphis! Heading down from CT for the show with fellow die hard friend. We have 2 extra pit GA's if anyone needs. We're staying at Marriott downtown. Less than 2 weeks! ;)

Bars on Beale St are allowed to stay open until 5am. But I know of several that are open all night. Most bars outside of the entertainment districts close at 3 AM. You won't have trouble finding open bars after the show.

Do you have an opinion on the Crown Plaza Downtown? Reviews are all over the place. And what about parking at the Forum? We'll have a car, but would it be a better idea to cab it?

This is the most helpful thread I've seen in a very long time. Thank you! We are staying at the Peabody and I can't wait to see the Peabody Ducks and the rooftop!

great thread since i kinda live here too.....will add for people looking for rooms.....W.Memphis and Marion, Ar (where i live) are just across the bridge from Memphis and venue....15-20 minutes tops.....lots of motels in both and very safe....tons of great places on Beale to visit....Blues City Cafe has unreal ribs and gumbo....Flyin Saucer has more beer than you can ever try and make the show....Young Ave Deli in Mid Town has the best sandwiches in Memphis....Big Ass Beers on Beale $5 and you can walk around and drink.....enjoy the show

No opinion on the CP but only because I've never been there. It's a little farther north than most of the entertainment stuff but still looks like a decent walk to the Forum. If you're staying there, I'd just walk.

Cabs in Memphis can be a crapshoot in that you won't see many sitting around waiting for passengers. You should call ahead. But, I hear Lyft and Über are pretty handy.

Parking is pretty easy to find for Forum events. The Forum has an attached parking garage and there are several surface lots all around the Forum. I've never had a problem finding parking even during sold out Grizzlies games (about same number of people I'd guess will be there for PJ). Pro tip: Park on one of the side streets off of South Main St for free. Just be sure to pay attention to the signs to ensure it's legit.

You're welcome and thank you too! The duck walk is so cool. Catch a seat at the lobby bar and enjoy the walk in style.

  • Great Post well done!

While I wont be attending any of the US shows I did have the opportunity to stay in Memphis a few years back. Visiting from Ireland, Graceland was a MUST SEE and it didn’t disappoint. The VIP access basically just let you skip Queues so if it’s not busy I wouldn’t bother. Probably worth it in the summer but not so much in October. You do get a cool VIP kinda backstage pass thingy which I still have. Try the Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich but I would be surprised if you like it as personally I thought it was like eating sandpaper and maplesyrup! Maybe you like sandpaper? Some people do, Tim the tool man Taylor??

Sun Studios has a good tour and some really great t shirts. Really worth a visit. We stayed in the Sheraton which is just down the road from the Forum. Basic enough but fine for what you get. Not sure how much it is to stay here but reasonable if I remember correctly.

Pints on Beale Street means you can’t go wrong.

The whole time I was in Memphis I had Paul Simons Graceland playing in my head. And the Mississippi Delta actually does shine Like a National guitar!!

I was lucky enough to visit this great city with an amazing woman! Whatever you guys do make memories!

How is the Greyhound station connected to downtown?

You can take the number 2 MATA bus which picks up right at the Greyhound station every 45 minutes (possibly depending on what time you're getting in) and goes downtown.

The link for routes and schedules is below. From there select the Route 2 schedule and you can see the timetable for what time you are coming in.

I've never stayed there but I'm sure it's fine given that it's Holiday Inn. Reviews on the web can help you way more than I can though.

Great thread! In the car on the way there now. Staying at the Peabody.

It looks like thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow, and cool and rainy Tuesday. :(

Was planning to walk around tomorrow. And ideas for things to do when it's pouring outside??

Also, have GA. Looking for fun group to stand with that doesn't mind a little bouncing/jumping. In my experience, GA always better with a group of like minded people having a good time rather than everyone trying to protect "their" spot.

Are the trolleys off? Staying at Comfort Inn on N. Front St., is walking the only way back after the gig?

  • Peyton18Peyton18 Posts: 216
Anywhere on Beale St. Try the Flying Saucer. They have like 200 different kinds of beer and it's pint night! So if you like beer they have anything you can think about! It's also just a cool place to hangout and have a good time. Sometimes they have bands playing their as well

Check my long post on the first page. It has plenty of rainy day (indoor) activities. It depends on what you're into, but I think Sun Studios, Stax, Graceland, the Brooks Museum, the Pink Palace (not a strip club), the Civil Rights Museum, or something like that would be fun. I think bars and casinos (casinos are about 30 minutes by car) are fun for rainy days too but I have a two year old so...

Be sure to check before you head anywhere. I would assume some of the places mentioned are closed on Mondays.

The trolleys are out of commission until next year. For now buses have taken over trolley routes. I'm sure you could get a taxi or Lyft/Über, but I would think that would be a 20 minute walk at most.

I have a few suggestions on a long post on the 1st page of this thread. But yeah, Peyton18 suggested a really good one in the Flying Saucer.

Thanks. Yeah, I figured those would work but thought I'd ask.

Went on a ghost walk tonight. E & H's was cool but very creepy upstairs. Some good stories. I'd also like to go to Molly Fontaine's. Sounds real cool.

Hopefully tomorrow night won't be too bad.

Google the Victorian Village if you're into places like E+H and Mollie Fontaine's. One or two of the old Victorian homes (across the street from MF Lounge) are open to the public. I can't remember which one, but one of the houses is haunted. You might find something of interest for a stormy Monday.
