RAK v2 (free merch)

I was inspired by phishjam's post about giving away item's from his/her's mystery box for random acts of kindness (RAK).
http://community.pearljam.com/discussion/233670/mystery-box-items-for-a-r-a-k

So I'm going to take another stab at a RAK. A few months ago I gave away a Portland poster to a deserving fan (http://community.pearljam.com/discussion/230919/portland-poster-for-free) and tonight I'm going to give away a Love Boat Captain 7". I was shipped 2 of the 7" by accident, and since I can't find a way to listen to both of them at the same time, I thought I should give one away. (free shipping to Canada and USA).

I know that this isn't as exciting as a Portland poster, so I'll make entry easier. Tell me about a time a stranger made you happy, and that you made another stranger happy in return. I will take all legitimate entries and do a draw in 1 week.

Post the entries on the board.

Take care of each other,
Jason

very cool Jason. I can't be specific as there are literally hundreds of them but everyday I am just amazed by the acts of generosity and kindness of so many fans from these forums PM'ing me to help contribute items or things for raising funds for Operation Yellow Ribbon. Every PM is special to me but what especially stops me in my tracks is when it's from those outside America offering items which will go towards helping American US Service Members. That's just amazing.

Well mate, the man posting immediately above, and pdalowsky and SS9981 have helped me out an amazing amount of times, and so have others on here. Thanks Dave, Paul and Scott.

I'd be happy for this to go to OYR to some lucky raffle winner and help charity in the process.

Well done for putting it up for offer.

Recently PJ board member cdjsinge offered give away contents of their mystery box will members tell stories about their mothers. It was incredibly kind and super fun to read about everyone's mother. I was sent a bootleg cd for my story. Sp generous.

For me, I was recently at a minor league baseball game. A foul ball came flying towards my area. As expected, a bunch of kids started running to find the ball. I (sitting and drinking my beer) noticed the ball was right under my bleacher seat. I picked it up, and noticed a little boy looking for the ball near me. I gave a nod to the boys mother and set the ball 5 feet from me and said "hey, look under there" he found it and was beaming from ear to ear for the rest of the game and showing it off to anyone and everyone.

I'm sad to see that we've run out of human kindness.

I'll go again, if others don't want to join it! I'll take another stab!

Sometimes I get bogged down but so many people on their phone/tablet/mp3 player all the time and I get pretty annoyed/upset. I have been told I have the type of personality that can talk to anyone, and i do. I love it. So yesterday I was at a hotel for a family reunion and I went down to the gym-area to work off some of last nights snacks. A man was on the treadmill with headphones on watching tv, but as soon as I walked in I was greeted. It may not have meant much to him, but it was great for me. We had a good conversation and I learned there is a National Truck Driving Championship and he was at regionals and was now heading to Pittsburg! It was so fun to talk about all he has to do and learn to go to nationals and how big a deal it is. Being in my early 30s I have times when I feel I was born in the wrong generation, with technology taking over, so when a person taking the time to greet me and start a conversation it just starts my day off right.

For me, everyday, regardless of where I am or what my plans are, I pick up AT least 2 pieces of littler, I have done this for around 3 years now and I know I have made a difference and have to believe that the earth is happy with my help.

This is really cool. Like reading these stories.
I have so many people helping me out everyday. I can't imagine what I would do without Elwayvedder. He has inspired me beyond belief!
The other day I gave $50.00 to a homeless person. I know it wasn't much. But something inside just told me to give this person money. So I went with my gut and did it. This person was very pleased and blessed me. That is a true, wonderful feeling.

Another nice story. Last bump/push for entries before I close it off on Thursday and draw on Friday.

    Cheers!

I dont care to win anything but I think stories like this are great to share and also inspiring.

My story happened over the course of a few years back in the mid 2000's. I was lucky enough to get an internship with two rock radio stations in Chicago and eventually was offered a job doing promotions. My brother always took me to shows since I was 12. He took me to my first PJ show being at Solider Field too. I loved live music and always hoped and wished to meet the bands I adored.

When I got this internship, I met all kinds of bands/artists/comedians/etc... just about everyone and anyone. Also got close with security at venues. This even got me a chance to meet some members of PJ at the united center. Unfortunately, never met Eddie. He was 10ft away, was about to come in and turned back around since there were a quite a few fans around. Sadness! Maybe one day still.

But my good deed was the following: Obviously radio stations have extra tickets leftover for just about every show. If they dont go out to contest winners, they go to internal staff, etc. Sometimes, there's just a stack of tickets left over for shows here and there that go to waste. After seeing some station people throw away the extras, I decided to always ask for these extras to take with me to the shows.

One specific good deed was outside the Metro in Wrigleyville. Garbage was playing after a long hiatus and tickets were going through the roof. I saw about 5x kids outside taking their money out to a local scalper. I had about 10x tickets in my pocket.

I went up to the scalper and the kids and asked how much they were going for. The guy said $70. I looked at the kids and just handed them each a pair of tickets and said have fun. They didnt believe me that the tix were free and the scalper looked PISSED. I told the kids to have a great time and get a shirt or poster instead.

    Thanks! BUMP

Entry is closed, and I've made the drawing.
For those who are interested in how I picked the winner, I put everyone's name in an Excel spreadsheet, and had Excel generate a random number for each person [=rand()] and whoever had the highest number on the 5th time I generated the random number was the winner.

    Congrats to PJ@Chicago!
