Gendercide

Just watched It's A Girl.

"More females are missing on earth today from gendercide than the combined number of deaths from all genocides of the 20th century."

In India, the dowry system has resulted in current child sex ratios as high as 126:100 (boys to girls). Laws against dowries are ineffective and in short, boys offer families the opportunity to gain wealth and material, whereas girls are seen as a burden to families that are forced to pay them.

Often, men will marry women only to kill them after receiving the dowry.

The poor practice infanticide (they kill the newborn girls). The rich practice sex selective abortions. Laws against gender testing have proven to be useless as well- doctors readily perform the tests for money.

  • In China, the 1 child policy has seen negative results.

13 million abortions a year (many forced).

122:100 sex ratio (boys to girls).

By 2020, sociologists expect an “extra” 35 million Chinese men — males for whom there are simply no available female partners. That’s slightly more than the population of Canada.

    http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/regions/asia-pacific/china/110615/china-and-the-worst-ever-man-made-gender-gap

One causal factor for child trafficking in China is the fact that there are fewer females to marry sons to. Families want girls for their sons to marry, but they do not wish to raise them: a daughter is a thief. There are estimates as high as 7,000 kidnappings a year.

China has the highest rate of female suicide in the world, with most women who decide to end their own lives coming from less well-educated rural backgrounds. The most common means they use to end their lives is the swallowing of pesticides. The social factor may be due to the status of women. Economically, rural women are still not quite independent and do not have economic power. Family violence is also a cause in many cases.

the vaginal orifice is also partially closed and the vulva disfigured in many cases...i have seen this, and assisted surgery to reconstruct/undo whats been done to these poor women... It's so sad that females have so far to go yet in this fucked up world...

  • As a man... I can comfortably say (and have been saying it for a while) the only way this world has a chance is if women run it: no men behind the scenes pulling their strings either- just women and women alone.

Men can be responsible for working and breeding- with 'play time' built into our schedules.
    "My brain's a good brain!"
  • And to the topic... my daughter brings me more joy than I could ever have imagined.

It enrages me to think of foul men (and brainwashed women for that matter) seeing children as commodities.

How low can the human race possibly sink?

I think this is just as sexist as saying a man should run it.
Reality is you need true diversity in the "ruling class" if you want what is best for everyone.

It's never going to happen, but let's start with a dramatic correction... and then work towards a 'balanced' model like the one you appropriately suggest.

I don't think it is sexist to suggest males are at the root of most significant problems we face in today's world. Start with crime statistics and work your way from there to get the picture.

Humans are a brutal beast. But not so much here. We may argue about things here but far as I know we haven't killed one another! ;-)

I'm kinda with cincy - it / we need a mix of the two. It brings balance.

I have to say that in all of my working life, my only two bosses that were women (thankfully for a short term) were nightmares to work for. One I won a civil case against for nonpayment of commissions, and the other got off on berating me for non-issues in front of everyone.

And I think one the best gifts to be given children, daughters especially, are good fathers. Ones who set an example of how women should be treated by how they treat their wives (or husbands, as the case may be) and women in general. Those are the girls who will grow up to not settle, to not get in abusive relationships, to respect themselves.

Sadly, not all cultures go this route and these poor girls suffer beyond my imagination.

The way females are considered worthless, a burden and a bother in some cultures continues to confuse me. Like, where do you think YOU came from? Until someone figures out a way to sustainably reproduce humans without females, we remain vital to the existence of our species. I mean there will always be a small amount of ignorant fools you will never knock sense into (i saw an article about a cab driver getting suspended for wearing a nazi armband, IN NYC. Like, what?) but for a majority of the population to not respect the gender that produces the life that continues the population it is sooooooo stupid.

I tend to agree. Or at least it should be much, much more balanced.

  • And while we try to find this balance, exactly how do we respond to cultures that essentially view women as a sub-species?

The posts I initially offered speak to something absolutely brutal.

The weight of the world's problems are immense. I count my blessings daily. My Ukrainian grandparents did a great thing when they immigrated from Kiev back in the 50s. They never fared well in Canada, but their grandchildren have done okay.

They sacrificed their lives to make a decent life for their children and lineage.

Yup, Thirty...I relate to the immigration aspect - my uncle brought the family here from Iran in the late 40s. Life there at that time wasn't even close to what it is now, but the opportunities were so much greater in the US. I'm so proud (edit - thankful too) of what that side of my family accomplished, and the lives they've afforded us.

I think of how women are treated there now - not to mention gay people or anyone else who "defies" the rule - and the people who were recently arrested for making and dancing in a video...just fucked up and heartbreaking.

You know... I think I have the answer.

We could all sell our Sevens and backpacks. Maybe 10C would donate a signed ukulele. Then, with the money we raise, we could send Chadwick to, say... India, to begin the process of correcting the unfortunate attitudes we see on display towards women.

Once there, Chadwick can cruise the streets and when he hears of an impending wedding... he can make his way to the groom's house and proceed to slap people within it when they are briskly rubbing their palms together while creating their 'needs' list for the impending dowry.

I get the feeling that this slap- if it's a quality slap that is- just might have the effect of clearing the heads so that they can begin to view the bride to be as a 'partner' instead of a commodity.

    Chadwick's a good slapper.

    Just a suggestion. I don't know.

    * Maybe we can send Godfather with Chadwick to so that he can experience another culture while immersed in it as part of his sensitivity training?

  • Horrifying case:

    http://news.ca.msn.com/world/india-gang-rape-strangling-of-2-sisters-renews-public-outrage-1

The villagers accused the chief of the local police station of ignoring a complaint by the girls' father Tuesday night that the girls were missing. The station chief has since been suspended.

    Girls viewed as low-caste 'untouchables'

The family belongs to the Dalit community, also called "untouchables" and considered the lowest rung in India's age-old caste system.

    ...

Records show a rape is committed every 22 minutes in India, a nation of 1.2 billion people. Activists say that number is low because of an entrenched culture of tolerance for sexual violence, which leads many cases to go unreported. Women are often pressed by family or police to stay quiet about sexual assault, experts say, and those who do report cases are often subjected to public ridicule or social stigma.

Gang rape is rampant in India and to curb it... new laws make gang rape punishable by death. Yet, some 'old schoolers' feel that's excessive:

Last month, the head of Uttar Pradesh state's governing party told an election rally that the party was opposed to the law calling for gang rapists to be executed.

"Boys will be boys," Mulayam Singh Yadav said. "They make mistakes."

Aaahh the boys. Yah. Maybe Mulyam Singh Yadav has a point. It's not like the guys are trying to hurt anyone (especially anyone significant)- they're just havin' fun for gawd's sakes.
