60 seconds of LukinI heard Lukin live before it came out on Monkey Wrench radio in Seattle and I was so blown away I couldn't wait to here it on the album. I listened to that song first for a few times then the rest of the record.
Songs 2-9...
Hail hail-who u are-in my tree-smile(love the guitar at the end!)-off he goes-habit-red mosquito-lukin.
That's one hell of a run and would be one hell of a setlist.
Cool poll OP! Thanks

almost impossible to pick just one of those options, however if you edited it and added just one more which seems to be missing, i think i would definitely have to go with... JACK IRONSst. pete '94

The opening verse in Off He Goes. That's when you realize you're halfway through the album and there's been no filler so far and you're just now listening to the most stunning song.Post edited by The Waiting Trophy Man onAnother habit says it's in love with you

... Now, is there a boot for those? Or are those still in the running for vault releases?
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
the end of Present Tense...holy shit!Very tough to pick just one. I want to pick all of them. One of the choices should have been "its fuckin no code, period"0

the end of Present Tense...holy shit!I voted for the end of Present Tense, but Eddie's count at the beginning of Off He Goes is a pretty magical shift.10/31/93 Berkeley (Baba!) • 10/1/94 Bridge School • 9/16/96 Seattle (In My Tree!) • 10/19/96 & 10/20/96 B. I didn't vote because in my opinion the defining moment of this mast work is: "Pretty cookie heart squares all around, yeah!" :-)"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

Jeff plays guitarit is a good poll.... gotta say...
I think I have decided that this is my favorite album... period...
I use it to describe other albums that have that disjointed feeling, but put together it represents a whole thought.... "it's the no code feel"
despite the fact I picked smile... it is a coin toss between that track and sometimes that just ties the whole thing together for me perfectly....Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.0 -
the end of Present Tense...holy shit!On which track does Jeff play the non-bass?10/31/93 Berkeley (Baba!) • 10/1/94 Bridge School • 9/16/96 Seattle (In My Tree!) • 10/19/96 & 10/20/96 B. the end of Present Tense...holy shit!Pitchfork Review from back in the day:
No Code
Ha!
Epic
Rating: 5.4/10
I can't deny my respect for Pearl Jam. They rock it to the top. They don't stop. Not only are they musically amazing, they're also one of the world's most famous bands and are able to exercize the political aspects that come with the territory. The only other band with that kind of political power would be the Smashing Pumpkins, and the only message they're sending is that balding men should shave their heads.
No Code comes in a neato, quadruple- gatefold package with 144 polaroids on the cover (all taken by Vedder) and 13 Polaroid replicas with lyrics scrawled on their backs. You can only imagine how expensive this must have been. And on top of all that cash, No Code doesn't seem to be doing very well on the charts. Oops.
That's probably due to the fact that each of Pearl Jam's albums are just mildly more disappointing than their predecessors. Not to say the disc doesn't have its moments. You've got the thrashing, typical Pearl Jam song, "Hail, Hail," the Bono-fied "In My Tree" and the All-American rock-out, "Habit," -- but most of the songs just drag.
The opening track, "Sometimes," a Neil Young- inspired dramafest, is boring beyond the point of sleep and the Grateful Deadly campfire singalong, "Who You Are," makes me gag with hatred. I can't remember the rest of the songs. That's 'cause there's a ton of filler here. In fact, it's almost all filler. Like those weak remix EPs they put out to tide you over until the next big release. I keep wondering when the next real Pearl Jam record is coming out, 'cause I wanna hear some good, old fashioned Tenstyle rock and roll. I guess "Hail, Hail" and "Habit" will have to do.
It's a nice listen for the long drive to the cabin, like early R.E.M. (to be used as background music only), but if you're looking for the overpowering, brooding, political hate anthems that this band has formerly been known to put out, just hope you can find it on the next record.

yup... sounds exactly like every pitchfork review i've ever read that wasn't hyping an arcade fire release.
everyone who "reviews" music for a "living" should be sent adrift on an ice flow. beauty is in the eye of the beholder and opinions are like assholes... everyone's got one and we don't need you to shit on someone else's perception of beauty
